Design of High Performance Robust Vector Quantizer for Wavelet Transformed Image Coding (웨이브렛 변환 영상 부호화용 고성능 범용 벡터양자화기의 설계)

  • In this paper, we propose a new method of designing the vector quantizer which is robustness to coding results and independent of statistical characteristics of an input image in wavelet transformed image coding processes. The most critical drawback of a conventional vector quantizer is the degradation of coding capability resulted from the discordance between quantizer objective image and statistical characteristics of training sequence which is for generating representing vector. In order to resolve the problem of conventional methods, we use independent random-variables and pseudo image to which image correlation and edge component were added, as a training sequence for generating representing vector. We have done a computer simulation in order to compare coding capability between a vector quantizer designed by the proposed method and one with the conventional method using real image as same as that is objective to coding of training sequence used in codebook generation. The results show the superiority of the proposed vector quantizer method at the aspect of coding capability compared to conventional one. They also clarify the problems of conventional methods.

Wheel Loading Diagnosis and De-noising by Wavelet Transform (Wavelet 변환에 의한 숫돌로딩 진단과 노이즈 제거)

  • The wavelet transform is a popular tool for studying intermittent and localized phenomena in signals. In this study the wavelet transform of cutting force signals was conducted for the diagnosis of grinding conditions in grinding process. We used the Daubechies wavelet analyzing function to detect a sudden change in cutting signal level. STD11 workpiece was 85 times of machined pieces cut by the WA wheel and a tool dynamometer obtained cutting force signals. From the results of the wavelet transform, the obtained signals were divided into approximation terms and detailed terms. At dressing time, the approximation signals were slowly increased and 45 machined times noticed dressing time.

A preliminary stepped workpiece which had intentionally a hard condition was cut by the inserted cermet tool and a tool dynamometer obtained cutting force signals. From the results of the wavelet transform, the obtained signals were divided into approximation terms and detailed terms. At tool failure, the approximation signals were suddenly increased and the detailed signals were extremely oscillated just before tool failure.

  • This paper proposes a single-mode Lamb-wave generation and detection system using a pulsed laser as a generator and an air-coupled transducer combined with the wavelet transform analysis, as the detector. The laser source with arrayed linear slits was used to generate Lamb-wave which is able to control the wavelength of Lamb-wave to be generated by changing the slits separation. An ari-coupled transducer was used to receive Lamb-wave, which can selectably receive a single mode of leaky Lamb wave by changing the oblique angle of transducer, since the leaky Lamb-wave has unique leaky-angle according to the mode. Also, the received signal was processed by wavelet transform for the analysis in domain of time-frequency. The theoretical dipersion curve and the experimetal result was compared to show good agreement.

  • 본 논문에서는 wavelet 변환을 이용하여 태양광 발전 시스템의 외란을 측정하는 방법을 연구하였다. MLD(Multi-Level Decomposition) 기법을 이용하여, 계산량이 적으면서도 빠른 시간내에 외란의 종류와 크기를 알아낼 수 있다. Wavelet 이론 소개와 컴퓨터 모의실험, DSP 제어기를 이용한 실험 결과로서 본 연구의 타당성을 입증하였다.

  • The rigid body properties of a structure may be estimated easily if the mass-line of the structure could be taken exactly. However, the exact mass-line may be hard to be obtained exactly in experiments. The mass line value can be read from the mass line in frequency response function. However, the mass lines in the frequency response function sometimes show the fluctuation with frequency, and it cannot be read correctly. In this paper, the wavelet transform is applied to obtain the good mass line value. The mass line calculated by using wavelet transform has unique value and showed in the range of fluctuated values of frequency response function. The rigid body properties obtained by wavelet transform also showed better results than those by fourier transform.

  • In this paper, a new improved EREC based error resilient coding in JPEG-2000 standard is proposed, considering the error sensitive wireless environment with limited channel capacity. In order to apply EREC, we use the variable bit-rate by using R-D optimization. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed EREC based error resilient coding is more resilient than the error resilient schemes used in JPEG-2000.

  • In this paper, we propose a new method for image coding which efficiently use the relationship between the properties of spatial image and its wavelet transform. Firstly, an original image is decomposed into several layers by the wavelet transform, and simultaneously decomposed into 2$^n$$\times$2$^n$blocks. Each block is classified into two regions according to their standard deviation, i.e., low activity region(LAR) and high activity region(HAR). The region with low frequency in spatial domain does not only appears as zero regions in wavelet frequency domain like HL, LH, and HH but also gives little influence to the quality of reconstructed image. The other side, the high frequency regions are related to significant coefficients which gives much influence to image reconstruction. In this paper, we propose a image coding method to obtain high compression rate at low bit rate by these properties. The LAR region is encoded by LAR coding method which is proposed in this paper, the HAR by a technique similar to bitplane coding in hierarchical tree. Simulation results show that th,$\boxUl$ proposed coding method has better performance than EZW and SPIHT schemes in terms of image quality and transmitted bit rates, can be successfully applied to the application areas that require of progressive transmission.
