Ultimate Strength Analysis of Connections of Floating Pendulum Wave Energy Converter (부유식 진자형 파력발전장치의 연결부 최종강도해석)

  • A floating offshore structure has high tendency to occur the buckling when compressive, bending and shear loads applied. When the buckling is occurred, in-plane stiffness of structure is remarkably decreased. And it has a harmful effect on the local structural strength as well as global structural strength. In the present study, it has been investigated the ultimate strength of tubular members which is located between a floater and a damping plate of the floating pendulum wave energy converter. Nonlinear finite element method is conducted using the initial imperfection according to 1st buckling mode which is obtained from the elastic buckling analysis. It is also noted the ultimate bending strength characteristic varying with a diameter, thickness and stiffeners of the tubular member.

  • Recently the residual strength of damaged tubulars under axial compression has extensively been investigated. However, in spite of the possibility of damage onto underwater members of offshore structures as results of collisions, dropped objects and other accidental impacts occurring in service or during fabrication or installation, no research works on the structural behaviour of damaged tubulars under combined loadings including hydrostatic pressure have been reported in the literature. In this paper, a numerical method has been proposed to estimate the residual strength of damaged tubulars under combined loadings, and then the proposed method has been substantiated with corresponding test data. A simple design equation has been derived based upon the results of the parametric study using the proposed method. The accuracy of the predictions using the derived equation is found to be a 10.1% COV(Coefficient of Variation) together with an 1. 037 mean comparing with the test data.

Buckling Analysis and Test of Composite Sandwich Cylinder for Underwater Application (수종운동체 적용을 위한 샌드위치 복합재 원통의 좌굴 해석 및 시험)

  • In this paper, as a basic research to apply the composite sandwich to underwater vehicle, the manufacturing, analysis and test methods, and weight saving effect of a composite sandwich cylinder under external pressure were studied. A two-step manufacturing method to prevent the wrinkling of the sandwich cylinder face was proposed and the three cylinders were made and tested. Finite element results based on the shell and solid model using MSC.Nastran were compared with test results. The comparison showed that the linear finite element analysis using the shell and solid elements can predict the buckling pressure of the sandwich cylinder with approximately 3% difference. The parametric study of the filament wound cylinders revealed that the composite sandwich can reduce the weight of the cylinder more than 30% compared with the filament wound cylinder supporting the same pressure.

  • This paper summarizes a solution procedure for a large cylindrical structure mounted underneath a ship as a sonar. Vibration analysis of the water loaded structure is required to enhance the structural reliability as well as acoustic performance of the sonar. It is, however, often very difficult to solve such structures since they have many DOFs, considering the frequency of interest and the water-loading. The mode mapping method is proposed and verified to take into account the water-loading with the minimum DOF for the analysis. The cyclic symmetric method is then reviewed to show how the eigen properties of the full model can be obtained from the representative segment model. The solution procedure is finally proposed and applied successfully for a simplified water-loaded cylindrical array structure.

  • A method for the analysis of free vibrations of steel and plain weave composite cylindrical shells with a longitudinal, interior rectangular plate is developed by using the receptance method. This method is based on the ratio of a deflection (or slope) response to a harmonic force(or moment) at the joint. In this study, after getting the free vibration characteristics of the simply supported plate and shell, the frequency equation of the combined system is obtained by considering the continuity condition at the joint between the plate and the shell. The numerical results are compared with published results and experiment results in order to show the validate of the formulation, and shown that the analytical results agreed with those from other methods. The effects of the location and the thickness of the plate on the natural frequencies are also investigated.

  • 본 연구에서는 반잠수식 Rig의 형상에 따른 최적 형상을 검토하기 위하여 최근 건조되고 있는 4-Column과 2-Lowhull을 가진 사각 Column에 원통형 Column을 혼합한 혼합형 과 4각 Column형을 공시모형으로 택하여 규칙파중 두 구조물에 작용하는 유체력과 유체력에 의한 운동 응답을 계산하고, 4각 Column을 가지는 구조물의 길이, 폭, 홀수를 변화시킨 Series 에 따른 유체 역학적 특성과 동요 진폭의 관계를 검토하였다. 수치계산은 3차원 특이점 분포법을 이용하여 정상상태에 대하여 실행하였다. 구조물의 형상과 역학적인 간섭의 영향을 이용, 보다 성능이 우수한 형상을 얻을 수 있음을 확인하였다.

  • In this Paper, a so-called volume-control method for nonlinear failure analysis of reinforced concrete cylindrical structures is proposed. The pressure node which defines uniform change of pressure on finite element is added into layered shell element utilizing in-plane constitutive models of reinforced concrete and layered formulation. With the pressure node formulation, one can control the change in volume enclosed by the cylindrical structures and determine the required change in pressure. An algorith of volume-control method is employed and failure analyses for RC cylindrical structures are carried out using proposed method.

Vibration Analysis for Infinite Length Waveguide Structures Connected with Finite Length Structures Using Impedance Coupling (유한 길이 구조물과 무한 길이 도파관 구조물의 임피던스 연성을 이용한 진동 해석)

  • In case that an infinite length waveguide structure is connected with a finite length structure, it is required to combine a wave approach for the waveguide structure and a modal approach for the finite length structure to investigate the dynamic response of the connected target structure. In this study, the wavenumber finite element (WFE) analysis is adopted for the infinite length waveguide substructure and a finite element (FE) method is applied for the finite length substructure and then their results are coupled in terms of the impedance or mobility at the connected points between the substructures. As a structural model, an infinite length cylindrical shell with a rectangular plate inside is regarded. These two substructures are connected at the four corner points of the plate, rigidly or resiliently. From this investigation, it was confirmed that the wave approach (WFE method) and modal approach (FE method) can be combined by the impedance coupling.

Fabrication and Characteristics of Anode-Supported Tube for Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (습식법에 의한 고체산화물 연료전지용 연료극 지지체관의 제조 및 특성 연구)

  • To develop anode-supported tubular cell with proper porosity, we have investigated the anode substrate and t the electrolyte-coated anode tube. The anode substrate was manufactured as a function of carbon content in the range of 20 to 50 vol.%. As the carbon COntent increased, the porosity of the anode substrate increased slightly and the carbon c content with proper porosity is found to be 30 vol.%. The anode-supported tube was fabricated by extrusion process a and the electrolyte layer was coated on the anode tube by slurry coating process. The anode-supported tube was cofired successfully at $^1400{\circ}C$ in air. The porosity of the anode tube was 35%. From the gas permeation test, the anode t tube was found to be porous enough for gas supply. On the other hand, the anode-supported tube with electrolyte layer indicated a very low gas permeation rate. This means that the coated electrolyte was dense.
