  • The purpose of this study is to identify how native speakers' video-conference teaching influences self-efficacy according to the cognitive styles of elementary school students compared with native speakers' traditional co-teaching. The results of this study are as follows. First, there was the difference in the effect on self-efficacy according to the difference in three teaching methods. Second, there was not the difference in self-efficacy according to cognitive styles. Third, there appeared the interaction effect of teaching methods and cognitive styles on self-efficacy.

  • This study explored the perception of transplanted Korean prosody by NE (Native speakers of English) and NK (Native speakers of Korean) listeners. The Korean utterances of various sentence types produced by NE and NK were employed to transplant the original Korean prosody contours to the Korean utterances read by NE. Then, other NE and NK were instructed to rate the transplanted prosodic components. Results showed that the interactions between the two rater groups with the three factors (e.g., transplantation types & rater groups, sentence types & rater groups, sentence length & rater groups) turned out to be meaningful. Both rater groups preferred the combined effect of transplanted prosodic components (e.g. DP, DPI) to that of individual transplantation (e.g. I, D, P). Compared to NK, NE were more sensitive to duration change than pitch change whereas NK showed equal preference to the both. In sentence types such as De, Ex, Im, and Ta, NE perceived higher similarity than NK.

  • The purpose of this experimental study is to investigate and compare the vowel lengths of the English diphthongs, /eɪ/ and /aɪ/, and the front low vowel /æ/ among English-speaking natives with Korean college students using the Praat software program. To do this English sentences were uttered and recorded by twelve subjects, six Korean subjects and six English-speaking native subjects. All the subjects are female and their age ranges from 23 to 35. Acoustic features(duration) were measured from a sound spectrogram with the help of the Praat software program and analyzed through statistical analysis. Results showed that the vowel lengths of the English diphthongs and the front low vowel between native English speakers and Korean collegians were different. In the pronunciation of the diphthongs /eɪ/ and /aɪ/, Korean subjects pronounced longer than native subjects did, but the difference was not significant. However, in the pronunciation of the English front low vowel /æ/, native subjects pronounced significantly longer than Korean subjects did. From the data of the overall sum of words and vowels between the two subject groups, we were able to find out that the differences of lengths of both the three words and the two diphthongs /eɪ/ and /aɪ/ were not significant, but those of /æ/ were significant.

  • English education taken with native English speakers is very effective, but it is hard to obtain English education with native English speakers in rural schools. In this study, therefore, we supported English education with on-line content and video conferencing with native English speakers. This study worked with one hundred fifty students from six elementary and middle schools equally distributed by city size over three months. This study performed experimental research by T-test comparing of pre- and post-tests of the hybrid model. In our results, the upper group showed greater improvement in understanding while the lower group showed more improvement in writing. In addition, the lower group showed more improvement than the upper group in overall English accomplishment.

Thus, the objective of this paper is to explore the current status, problems, and the directions for the program to be aimed at, and for the effectiveness of EPIK through investigation of the program. Then this paper presents some possible solutions and suggestions including the possibility of VR use in orientation and training programs in order to empower both Korean teachers of English and English native teachers in Korea.

  • Journal of Convergence for Information Technology. This study explores how native speakers (NSs) and non-native speakers (NNSs) of English negotiate meanings during conversational interactions to achieve successful communication. This study involved 40 participants: 20 native English speakers and 20 Korean university students. The participants were divided into 20 pairs, with each pair consisting of one NS and one NNS. Tasks for conversation were given and the execution recorded in order to collect data. 37 recorded conversations were transcribed and used for analysis, including statistical analyses. Results showed that both NSs and NNSs mutually put in effort for successful communication. While NSs mostly played the role of leading the natural flow of the conversation, encouraging their non-native interlocutors to speak, NNSs used various strategies to compensate for their lack of linguistic competence in the target language. NNSs employed a wide range of communicative strategies to keep the conversation going. The results of this study contribute to a better understanding of interactions between NSs and NNSs and yield pedagogical implications.

  • This study investigates the relationships between rhythm and fluency indices and listeners' ratings of the rhythm and fluency of Korean college students' English paragraph reading. 17 university students read and recorded a passage from "The North Wind and the Sun" twice before and after three months of English pronunciation instruction. Seven in-service and pre-service English teachers in graduate school assessed the rhythm and fluency of the utterances. In addition, the values of 14 indices of rhythm and fluency were extracted from each speech and the relationships between the indices and the listeners' ratings were analyzed. The rhythm indices of the speakers in this study did not differ significantly from those of native English speakers presented in previous studies in %V, VarcoV, and nPVIV, but were higher in ΔV, ΔC, and VarcoC and lower in speech rate. The level of rhythm and fluency demonstrated by Korean college students was comparable, at least in terms of objective values for certain indices. The fluency indices, such as percentage of pauses, articulation rate, and speech rate, significantly contributed more to predicting both rhythm and fluency ratings than the rhythm indices.

  • Through the use of speech software technology, this paper examines the effects of voice interactions within the inner circle of English. The fundamental frequency (F0) was obtained by analyzing native speakers (aged 30-55) speech effects based on nationality, age, and gender. The findings within this study reveal that the Caucasian British female (age 33) and the Caucasian American male (age 55) produced the most interactive speech. The contributing factor is the students' experience with various language styles throughout their language acquisition studies. The results of this study are compatible with $Traunm{\ddot{u}}eller$ & Eriksson (1995) and previous studies which agree that continuous speech above average is paramount towards student engagement and interactions.

  • Recently, the fourth industrial revolution has become an area of interest to many countries, mainly in major advanced countries. Artificial intelligence technology, the core technology of the fourth industrial revolution, is developing in a form of convergence in various fields and has a lot of influence on the edutech field to change education innovatively. This paper builds an experimental environment using the DTW speech recognition algorithm and deep learning on various native and non-native data. Furthermore, through comparisons with CNN algorithms, we study non-native speakers to correct them with similar pronunciation to native speakers by measuring the similarity of English pronunciation.
