In this paper the kinematics of damage for finite elastoplastic deformations is introduced using the fourth-order damage effect tensor through the concept of the effective stress within the framework of continuum damage mechanics. Unlike the approach of strain equivalence or energy equivalence, which is applicable only to small strains, the proposed kinematic description provides a relation between the effective strain and the damage elastoplastic strain in finite deformation. This is accomplished by directly considering the kinematics of the deformation field both real configuration. The proposed approach shows that it is equivalent to the hypothesis of energy equivalence at finite strains. The damage effect tensor in this work is explicitly characterized in terms of a kinematic measure of damage in the elastoplastic domain through a second-order damage tensor.
This study was designed to investigate the effects of mild hypothermia and Aquatic exercise on function Activity after experimental Spinal Cord Injury(SCI) rats. Experimental groups were divided into the control group (non-treatment after SCI induction), group I(hypothermia after SCI induction), group II(exercise after SCI induction), group III(hypothermia and exercise after SCI induction). After operation, rats were examined neurological motor behavior test at 3, 7, 14, 21 days and Immunohistochemical assessment at 3, 7, 21 days. Each other 14 days were a statistically significant difference between control group and group II, III(p<.001) in BBB scale, between control group and group III(p<.05) in grid walk test. In mmunohistochemical assessment, there was appeared highest express in group III. Based on these results, mild hypothermia and exercise was effected functional Activity after SCI.
Many people in these days participate in running as leisure due to urbanization and socio-economic development. Running is a simple exercise but it can induce its own specific injury pattern because of its repetitive motion. Most runners' injury is caused by chronic overuse syndrome rather than acute trauma. And common accompanying injury in running are anterior knee pain syndrome, Iliotibial band syndrome, stress fracture, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinitis, posterior tibial tendon syndrome. Most common area of runners' injury is knee joint. Therefore the authors reviewed the recent literatures and described the classification, etiology, prevention, rehabilitation in this article.
Diffuse axonal injury(DAI) is a common form of traumatic brain injury and thought to be a major contributor to cognitive dysfunction. Physical activity has been shown to beneficial effects on physical health and influences in hippocampus which is an important location for memory and learning. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of motor training on motor performance and axonal regeneration in hippocampus through the immunoreactivity of GAP-43 after diffuse axonal injury in the rats. The experimental groups were applied motor training(beam-walking, rotarod, and Morris water maze) but control groups were not. The time performing the motor tasks and GAP-43 immunohistochemistry were used for the result of axonal recovery. There were meaningful differences between experimental groups and control groups on motor performance and GAP-43 immunohistochemistry. The control groups showed increasing tendency with the lapse of time, but experimental groups showed higher. Therefore, Motor training after DAI improve motor outcomes which are associated with dynamically altered immunoreactivity of GAP-43 in axonal injury regions, particularly hippocampus, and that is related with axonal regeneration.
This study investigated the changes in inflammatory mediators, immunocompetent cells and bone merrow progenitor cells by the magnitude of muscle damage and type of the muscle contraction in the elderly. Twenty older adults who had not been involved in a resistance-training program at least 6 months prior to the present study were assigned to eccentric exercise group (ECC, n=10) and concentric exercise group (CON, n=10). All subjects performed 10 sets of 6 maximal isokinetic eccentric (ECC 1) or concentric (CON) contractions with the non-dominant arm in a randomized, with 4 wk between bouts (ECC 2). Skeletal muscle damage index (ROM, VAS, Plasma CK), inflammation mediators (TNF-α, IL-1, IL-6), immunocomperent cells (CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, CD19+), bone merrow progenitor cell (CD34+) and leukocytes were measured before, immediately after, 2, 24, 48, 72, and 96 h after exercise. Changes in ROM and VAS were greater (P<.05) after ECC 1 than CON and ECC 2. Increases in TNF-α and IL-6 were greater (P<.05) 24, 48 and 72 h after ECC 1 than CON and ECC 2. Increases in neutrophils were greater (P<.05) 2 h after ECC 1 than CON and ECC 2. It was confirmed that muscle damage was greater following eccentric than concentric contractions as well as first bout than second bout in the elderly, and suggested that TNF-α, IL-6 and neutrophils should closely correlate with magnitude of muscle damage.
In this paper the kinematics of damage for finite strain, elasto-plastic deformation is introduced using the fourth-order damage effect tensor through the concept of the effective stress within the framework of continuum damage mechanics. In the absence of the kinematic description of damage deformation leads one to adopt one of the following two different hypotheses for the small deformation problems. One uses either the hypothesis of strain equivalence or the hypotheses of energy equivalence in order to characterize the damage of the material. The proposed approach in this work provides a general description of kinematics of damage applicable to finite strains. This is accomplished by directly considering the kinematics of the deformation field and furthermore it is not confined to small strains as in the case of the strain equivalence or the strain equivalence approaches. In this work, the damage is described kinematically in both the elastic domain and plastic domain using the fourth order damage effect tensor which is a function of the second-order damage tensor. The damage effect tensor is explicitly characterized in terms of a kinematic measurure of damage through a second-order damage tensor. Two kinds of second-order damage tensor representations are used in this work with respect to two reference configurations.
This study was designed to investigate the effects of swimming and minocycline on motor function recovery and Bcl-2 expression after spinal cord injury (SCI) in rats. After operation, neurological motor behavior test (BBB scale) on days 1, 4, 7, 10, and 14 were tested. Western blot and immunohistochemical assessment (Bcl-2) were performed on day 14. BBB scale started to show a statistically significant difference on day 7 (p<0.05). On day 14, it showed the most significant (p<0.05) difference. Expression of Bcl-2 increased in all the experimental groups. In particular, the highest expression of Bcl-2 appeared in the swimming and minocycline groups. Based on these results, minocycline and swimming were the most effective factors in the motor behavior function and immunohistochemical assessment of SCI rats.
The purposes of this study were to examine whether aquatic exercise has influence on the neuroplasticity and vestibulo-motor function in diffuse brain injury rats. 80 Sprague-Dawley rats were assigned to four groups; Group I: control group (n=20), Group II: aquatic exercise (n=20), Group III: treadmill exercise with change of velocity and inclination (n=20), Group IV: simple treadmill exercise (n=20). And we applied exercise each groups for 3 weeks except Group I. Before the rats were sacrificed to identify immunohistochemistry study at each time of measurement day, Rota-Rod test was given to assess changes in vestibulomotor function. then, the immunohistochemistry study of GAP-43 in discrete regions of the rat brain was performed to measure changes in neuroplasticity. The results demonstrate that aquatic exercise group is more effective than other groups. expression of GAP-43 and vestibulo-motor function were increased most in aquatic exercise group. Therefore, this study suggest that aquatic exercise may effective therapeutic approach to increase neuroplasticity and vestibulo-motor function in traumatic brain injury.
