Numerical Modelling of Longshore Currents using $\textsc{k}$-ι Turbulence Closure ($\textsc{k}$-ι 난류모형을 이용한 연안류 수치해석)

  • Longshore currents driven by monochromatic waves have been described using 2-equation $textsc{k}$-ι turbulence transport model. When using $textsc{k}$-ι closure both profiles of eddy viscosity and current velocity are found to be satisfactory. Several terms of ι equation are related to various variables concerned with turbulence mechanism. New form of turbulence frequency used in ι equation is suggested in the present approach, and non-dimensional parameters are evaluated by comparing the computational results with the laboratory measurements. Various values of a large range are applied to the non-dimensional parameters for the sensitivity test and in order to improve the predictability common values of constants are deduced, which produce similarly good computational results for the well-controlled laboratory measurements.

  • In this paper, the performances between maximum likelihood classifier based on statistical classification and multilayer perceptrons based on neural network approaches were compared and evaluated Experimental results from both neural network method and statistical method are presented. In addition, the nature of two different approches are analyzed based on the experiments.

  • 본 연구에서는 다양한 모형의 실린더 주위의 균일한 유동에 대하여, 후류에 생기는 유동현상을 EDISON_CFD를 이용하여 분석하였다. 고정된 실린더에 대해 주어진 레이놀즈 수에서 시뮬레이션을 이용하여 실린더의 형상에 따른 $C_L$값과 주기를 분석하였다. 이 후 진동운동을 가정한 운동방정식을 이용하여 실린더의 운동 및 발전 효율을 예측하여 비교하였다. 또한 운동방정식을 Bode 선도를 이용하여 용수철 상수와 감쇠율에 따른 발전 효율의 변화를 살펴보았다.

  • The reorientational motion of $C_6F_6$ in neat liquid is investigated in the temperature range 293∼333K by analyzing ${\nu}_2$ and ${\nu}_16$ bands of its Raman spectrum. Diffusion constants for the tumbling ($D_{\bo}$) and spinning ($D_{\parallel}$) motions are determined. The reorientation of the molecule seems to be distinctly anisotropic. Based on the hydrodynamic model, the tumbling motion of the figure axis of $C_6F_6$ is largely diffusional. On the other hand, the spinning motion of the same axis looks mostly inertial.

  • DES method is applied to an axisymmetric base flow at supersonic mainstream. The model is based on the Spalart-Allmaras (S-A) turbulence model in the RANS mode, and is based on the subgrid scale model in the Large-eddy simulation (LES) mode. Accurate predictions of the base flowfield and base pressure are successfully achieved by using the DES methodology which is less expensive than LES. Flow properties at the edge of base, such as boundary layer thickness, momentum thickness and skin fraction are compared with Dutton et al [experimental data to proper prediction of base flowfiled. From the present results, The DES accurately resolves the physics of unsteady turbulent motions, such as shear layer rollup, large-eddy motions in the downstream region and small eddy motions inside the recirculating region. Moreover, The present results of using an empirical constant $C_{DES}$ of 1.2 shows good agreement with experimental data than conventional empirical constant $C_{DES}$ of 0.65.

  • Jang, Hyeon-Guang is one of the representative natural philosophers of Joseon Korea. This article aims to investigate the meaning of the factors of Xiangshuxue(象數學) contained in his cosmology. Xiangshuxue applies Image(Xiang), Numeral(Shu) and In-Yang to present the distinctions, inter-relations and time-series orders of things. Jang's cosmology, combined with Xiangshuxue, insisted that Li(Principle) is infinite in time and space, the cosmos is finite on the other side. This assures that the moral principle is absolute and eternal. Jang emphasized the book I-ching as the criterion and the model in understanding the nature. This restrained the objectivizm of Shaoyong and made his concept 'natural law' difficult to change itself as the experience and the knowledge expand. None the less, his cosmology is appraised in that it strengthened natural philosophical basis of neo-confucianism and preceded the cosmological investigations since mid-Joseon dynasty.

Analysis of Pseudomonas aeruginosa Motility in Microchannels (미세유로 내에서 Pseudomonas aeruginosa의 유영 운동 분석)

  • This study presents the effects of micro-geometries on the swimming behavior of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. First, we have measured parameters of single-cell motility including cell speed, run duration time, and tumble angle under two dimensional space. The results are used to calculate motility coefficients in the width of microchannels ranging from 10 to $100{\mu}m$. Since the single-cell motility parameters measured depend on the interaction of flagella with the microchannel wall, the duration time of the running cell in restricted geometries is distinctively different. Therefore, the motility of bacteria is decreased by restricted geometries. This study suggests that microfluidic approach is useful tool for the analysis of bacterial motility under the restricted space and rapid analytical tool.

  • 본 논문에서는 평면 상에 두 볼록집합 P와 Q가 주어졌을 때, P를 강체운동 하에서 수평 이동 및 회전이동하여 Q와 겹치는 영역이 근사적으로 최대가 되는 알고리즘을 제시한다. 임의의 양의 상수 $\epsilon$이 주어졌을 때, 본 알고리즘은 가장 많이 겹치는 넓이의 $1-\epsilon$ 배를 보장하는 P의 강체운동을 $O((1/\epsilon)$ 번의 기하 질의 와 $O((1/{\epsilon}^2)log(1/$\epsilon)) 시간 내에 구할 수 있다. 특히 P와 Q가 볼록다각형 일 때, $O((1/\epsilon)log\;n+(1/{\epsilon}^2)log(1/\epsilon))$ 시간에 구한다. 만약 수평 이동만 사용할 경우는 $O((1/\epsilon)log\;n+(1/\epsilon)log(1/\epsilon))$ 시간에 구할 수 있다.

ON THE APSIDAL MOTION OF IQ PERSEI (IQ Persei의 근성점 운동)

  • CCD observations of times of minimum light of IQ Per with apsidal motion were made in VR bandpasses for four nights from November to December, 2002. From the observations four times of minimum light were determined. All times of minimum light collected from literatures, including ours, were analyzed to determine the apsidal motion parameters of IQ per. The sidereal and apsidal motion periods were calculated to be $0.^{s}035$ and $0.^{y}2$ slightly longer than those of Degirmenci (1997), respectively. The apsidal motion parameters of IQ Per derived in this paper show good agreement with Degirmenci's values. Our results support his internal density constant of $k_{2obs}$ = 0.0038 for IQ Per and 5 % accuracy of agreement between the observed and modelled values of the apsidal motion constant.

  • We developed a time-resolved magneto-optical Kerr effect microscope system to investigate ultrafast magnetization dynamics. Based on the pump-probe method, 0.1-ps time resolution was achieved by use of a fs Ti:Sapphire laser. The magnetization dynamics was then measured on Pt/Co/Pt thin films with various Co thicknesses. All the samples exhibited ultrafast demagnetization within a few ps by direct heating of pump laser. Some thicker samples showed precessional motion of magnetization, from which the Gilbert damping constant was determined based on the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation.
