This study was conducted to identify factors influencing depression symptoms among college students. To accomplish this, a self-administered questionnaire was distributed to 546 college students from October 1st to November 30th, 2015. Univariate analysis, logistic regression, and multivariate regression analysis between variables were then conducted using depression symptoms as the dependent variable and other relevant factors as independent variables. The level of depression among the subjects differed significantly according to personal attributes, family life and school life characteristics, as well as health related behavioral characteristics. The risk of depression was significantly higher in the lower group than the higher group of family and friends social support, the lower group than the higher group of self-esteem, the lower group than the higher group of locus of control, and in the high risk stress group than the normal stress group. Factors influencing depression symptoms included religion, social support from family, social support from friends, interpersonal dependency, locus of control, and stress were identified as significant variables, indicating that depression among college students is related to diverse elements including sociodemographic characteristics, social support from family/friends, interpersonal dependency, locus of control, and stress. Depression symptoms significantly increased when social support from family or friends, low psychological behavior characteristics are low, and when stress is high. Thus, it is necessary to understand factors related to depression and reduce them to decrease depression levels of college students.
The purpose of the study was to identify the associated factors on the smartphone addiction of university freshmen. Collected data were analyzed with SPSS 26.0 using t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficients and logistic regression. Depression and anxiety was statistically significant. As a result of the multiple regression I. the factors affecting were self-injury attempt experience, gender. The results of regression model II with depression and anxiety were depression and gender. It is intended to present the necessity of a program related to predicting smartphone addiction of university freshmen.
This study was conducted to identify convergence factors affecting depressive symptoms of postmenopausal women through the theory unpleasant symptom. This study was secondary data analysis form Sixth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2015. Study sample of 1,298 menopausal women to evaluate the factors that would influence depressive symptoms, physiological factors, situational factors, and psychological factors. The results showed that significant variables influencing the depressive symptom were income quartile(${\beta}=-.14$, p<.001), health status(${\beta}=.24$, p<.001), and stress(${\beta}=-.20$, p<.001). The explanation power of this regression model was 14. 1% and it was statistically significant. As a result, to improve their depressive symptoms, the nursing interventions are required for postmenopausal women who have the income, health status, and stress.
This study examined the relationships among fear of falling, ADL/IADL disability, and depressive symptoms among Korean community-dwelling middleaged and older adults based on the disablement process model. The panel data from the Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging(KLoSa) were used to test whether fear of falling affects disablement process as a risk factor and an exacerbator. The results of path analysis showed that middle-aged and older adults who reported fear of falling were more likely to experience ADL/IADL disability and depressive symptoms, and fear of falling influenced depressive symptoms through increasing the risk of ADL/IADL disability. In addition, fear of falling exacerbate the risk of ADL/IADL disability among middle-aged and older adults who had chronic illnesses. The results indicated that fear of falling is not only risk factor but also excerbator in predicting ADL/IADL disability and depressive symptoms prospectively.
The study is to develop specific strategies to prevent adolescents' depression, early detection and intervention services. This study was a descriptive research study with the purpose of predictors of protective factors for depression in adolescent using decision making tree analysis. The subjects for the study were 485 student in G city. This study collected data between September 23, 2013 and September 26, 2013 and analyzed them with frequency analysis, percentage, the mean and standard deviation, ${\chi}^2$-test, t-test, and a decision-making tree by using SPSS 20.0 program. From the data analysis, the predictive model for protective factors related to depression in adolescent with 4 pathways, 12 nodes. The common predicting variables of depression in adolescent were characteristics, family cohesion, parent adolescent communication, peer communication. The specialty of training data and test data was 76.0% and 65.4%. The sensitivity of training data was 78.2% and 63.7%. As for the classification accuracy, training data and test data explained 70.1% and 69.7%. Parent adolescent communication and peer communication to decrease depression of Korean middle and high school students are necessary. This study should contribute as baseline data for intervention strategies and planning ability of depression prevention in adolescents.
This study aimed to examine the direct impact and pathways of stress factors, internal resources(positive self-esteem and negative self-esteem) on the depressive symptoms based on stress coping theory, grouping older stage into three groups such as, the young-old, the old- old, oldest-old. This study further examined the mediating role of self-esteem in the relationships between stress factors and depressive symptoms. Data from 1st year Korea Welfare Panel Study were used for the analysis. The total number of participants was 4,338 who were over 65. Data are Analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling. Results revealed that stress factors and internal resources(positive self-esteem and negative self-esteem) directly affected depressive symptoms. The effects of stress factors on depressive symptoms were mediated by positive and negative self-esteem.. Results of multi-group structural equation modeling showed that the effects and pathways of stress factors and self-esteem on depressive symptoms were different into the three old groups. Based on the findings, the implications for policy and practice were discussed.
This study was done to identify the significant convergence factors of affecting depression of elderly women in rural area. A total of 161 elderly women aged 65 and over were collected and data were analyzed using multiple logistic regression with SPSS/WIN 21.0. The result indicated that 42.9% of participants were depressed. In logistic regression, significant factors of depression were age(p<.001, OR=1.146), economic status (p=.004, OR=.123), number of family member living together (p=.013, OR=.020), number of social activities (p=.012, OR=.436), number of disease diagnosed (p<.001, OR=3.847), visual function (p=.023, OR=3.867), family support (p=.048, OR=.707), which accounted for 68.6% of the variance. The results of this study can contribute to develop various convergence strategies to prevent the prevalence of depression of elderly women in rural area. Further studies are needed to confirm the level of contribution of visual disability to depression in rural older women.
In this study, the depression and anxiety of university students in the COVID-19 situation were identified, and the effects on depression and anxiety were indicated. Subjects were chosen randomly, and for the method a step selection multiple regression analysis was used. As a result of checking the factors affecting the subjects' general characteristics, stress level, preventive rule compliance level, and daily vitality level on depression and anxiety, the factors that had significant influence on depression were CPDI(𝛽=.230, p=.000), and K-ANX(𝛽=.472, p=.000). Other factors such as CPDI(𝛽=.276, p=.000), EDAS(𝛽=-.127, p=.019) and K-DEP(𝛽=.482, p=.000) were analyzed to have significant effects on anxiety. Therefore, the results of this study are thought to be meaningful as basic data that can be used to establish educational and counseling activities that help university students adjust to society and academically in the COVID-19 situation.
This study was conducted to identify factors affecting depression in junior nursing students(JNS). The number of the participants was 144 at a college in S and G city. The data were collected using questionnaires about somatic symptoms(SS), sleep quality, stress, adaptation to college life(AC), depression. Mean score of depression was 18.89, 58.3% are experiencing depression that requires clinical treatment. The significant predictors of JNS were levels of depression AC(β=-.503, p=.000) and SS(β=.263, p=.000) respectively, explaining 58.9% of variance. In order to control the depressive symptoms of JNS, it is necessary to diagnose basic learning ability from the beginning of admission and provide guidance management plans to help students adapt to academic activities by providing customized programs for each level to improve learning ability. It is necessary to develop and apply various intervention programs to alleviate physical symptoms such as fatigue/low energy experienced by JNS.
