  • The purpose of this study is to identify the influence of ego integrity on death anxiety of the elderly, mediated by depression based on Erikson theory(1963). For this study, 313 elderly over 60 years old in Daegu city participated in a survey. The data of the survey was analyzed using SPSS 15.0 and Structural Equation Modeling(SEM) with AMOS 7.0. The results of the study are as follows: ego integrity of the elderly does not influence death anxiety due to the suppressing effect of depression. However, depression does mediate the relation between ego integrity and death anxiety fully. Such findings suggest that the Erikson theory can also be applied to elderly Korean citizens. A practical benefit derived from the study's results is the proposition to implement a reminiscence program, reinforce depression treatment and prevention systems, and augment a death awareness movement for elderly.

This study also examines whether self-acceptance has any moderating effects on the relationships between interpersonal relationships, depression, and anxiety. The subjects of this study consisted of 400 high school students and the study focused on reporting their levels of interpersonal relationships, depression, anxiety, and self acceptance. The results indicate that depression and anxiety are negatively related to interpersonal relationships and self-acceptance. Interpersonal relationships are positively related to self acceptance. In other words, the more negative the interpersonal relationships, the greater the levels of depression and anxiety. The results also indicate that self-acceptance functions as a protective factor for high school students who have problems with depression and anxiety in their interpersonal relationships.

  • The subjects in this study were 442 5th and 6th grade school children in Seoul. Data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation, Stepwise Multiple Regression, and MANOVA. The principal findings were that worry, depression, and trait anxiety were positively related to meta-cognitive knowledge, particularly, meta-worry, positive beliefs about worry, negative beliefs about worry, lower appraisal about cognitive competence, and cognitive self-consciousness. These traits were also positively related to such metacognitive regulation strategies as worry displacement, self punishment, reappraisal, and social control. Metacognition influenced worry, depression, and trait anxiety; groups having more problems worry, depression, and trait anxiety showed high scores in metacognitive knowledge and metacognitive regulation strategies.
