  • The purpose of this study was to assess the relationship between drinking patterns and depressive mood, and to understand the factors associated with depressive mood among problem drinkers. Data of 19,878 adults over 19 years of age and older from the third Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were evaluated by multivariate logistic regression analysis. The risk of depressive mood was greater with higher level of problem drinking in both genders. For male problem drinkers, the factors associated with depressive mood include older age, lower education level, unemployment, high perceived stress, bad subjective health status, and non-married status. For female, higher risk was found in groups with the age of 40-49, lower education level, unemployment, high perceived stress, and bad subjective health status. By early screening of the identified risk factors, progression to mental health problem can be avoided. For preventative measures, differential approach depending on gender is suggested.

The dependent variable included oral health behavior and subjective symptom experience and the independent variable included subjective depression experience. Convergence factors influencing affect the subjective depression experience was significantly higher than those without depression experience were tooth brush times(one day), tooth brush times after lunch and sealant experience among oral health behavior and was significantly higher than those without depression experience were tooth break, pain, periodontal bleeding and bad breath among subjective symptoms. As a result, it appears to the depression experiences related to oral health factor, so it is consider psychological factors to improve the oral health of adolescents.

  • Loss experience can bring more negative impact to the person, if experienced in a younger period. This study examined how self-esteem mediates the effect of emotional expression and maladaptive emotion regulation strategies regarding one's loss during adolescence among college students on depression. The data of 380 college students entails what kind of loss was experienced, how the level of self-esteem mediated the effect of emotional expression and maladaptive emotion regulation strategy after loss experience on depression; and it was analyzed with SPSS 21.0 and Amos 21.0. The results showed that emotional expression about loss experiences was negatively correlated with depression (${\beta}=-.180$, p<.01), and maladaptive emotion regulation strategies showed a positive correlation with depression (${\beta}=.266$, p<.001). The emotional expression of loss experiences decreased the level of depression by increasing the level of self - esteem, and maladaptive emotion regulation strategy of loss experience increased depression level by lowering self-esteem level. Therefore, it is conceivable to assume that the more people articulate on various emotional experiences after their loss and think positively about themselves, and the less they criticize for themselves, the less likely they are to experience depression while maintaining high self-esteem.

  • The current study examines the association between multiple losses and depressive symptoms and the role of social support in multiple losses. Using a prospective designed dataset(Changing Lives of Older Couples), this study found a significant difference on the depressive symptom levels between multiple losses and single loss. In addition, there was a significant buffering effect of social support in bereavement, as oppose to previous literature that social support does not buffer the initial bereavement reaction in comparisons between the bereaved with multiple losses and the bereaved with a single loss. The author discusses the importance of monitoring elderly people with multiple losses and availability of social support before and after the loss.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the risk factors of depression in elementary school students in Korea. The subjects of the study were 23,291 elementary school students (12,016 male, 11,275 female) aged 9 to 12 years. Dependent variable was defined as experience of depression. Explanatory variables were included as sex, residential areas, social discrimination experience, experience of school violence for the past year, experience of Korean language education, experience of using multicultural family support center, reading to Korean, speaking to Korean, and writing to Korean, listening to Korean. In the RBF neural network analysis, experience of Korean education, experience of school violence, experience of Korean social discrimination, level of Korean reading were significantly associated with depression in elementary school students. In order to prevent depression in multicultural children, priority attention and counseling are needed for the group whose level of Korean reading is low.

  • In this study, we investigated the effects of ageism experience of the elderly on depression, where the loneliness was mediated between ageism experience and depression. To investigate the cause and effect of factors, we purposively collected 309 samples from 16 Gyungrodangs evenly located in Jeonju and 291 samples, survived the data screening such as missing values, outliers, normality and covariance conditions, were analyzed by frequency, factor analysis, reliability, confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation model analysis. As the results, first, we confirmed ageism experience positively affected depression of the elderly. Second, ageism experience of the elderly also positively affected loneliness. Third, loneliness positively influenced depression. Fourth, ageism experience had effects directly as well as indirectly on depression medicated by loneliness. Based on the results, in the aged society, combating law, policy, and propaganda against ageism would be helpful to the elderly and individually customized program for ageism victim's mental health would be recommended.

  • This study aimed to examine the influence of negative life events on delinquency through a dual-mediation of depression and impulsivity among out-of-school adolescents. For the purpose, using a sample of adolescents who were out of school at the point of participating in the 1st survey of the Panel Survey of School Dropouts and Model 6 of the PROCESS macro for SPSS, this study analyzed the direct influence of negative life events on delinquency as well as the mediation and dual-mediation effects of depression and impulsivity. The main results are as follows. First, out-of-school adolescents' negative life events had a significant positive influence on delinquency. Second, out-of-school adolescents' depression did not mediate the influence of negative life events on delinquency. Third, out-of-school adolescents' impulsivity mediated the influence of negative life events on delinquency. Fourth, out-of-school adolescents' depression and impulsivity dual-mediated the influence of negative life events on delinquency. Based on these results, this study discussed diverse strategies to prevent the delinquency of out-of-school adolescents who experienced negative life events.
