The Relationship between the Creativity and Motivation of Scientifically Gifted Students (과학영재아동의 창의성과 동기와의 관계 -전라북도 과학영재교육원 영재아동을 대상으로-)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship creativity and motivation. The subjects were 297 gifted students, selected in the examination for entrance to the Science Education Institute for the Gifted located Jeonbuk. To compare the gifted students' creativity and motivation with the normal students', this study used the standardized test, the Creativity Inventory for Students(by Choi & Lee, 2004) and Multi-Dimensional Learning Strategy Test(by Park, 2006). The major results of this study were as follows; First, The gifted students group was high group in the creativity, and especially the gifted girls were significantly higher than the gifted boys. Second, learning motivation of the gifted students were high or than the normal students and the gifted students were inclined to cope actively to challenge situation rather than avoid. Third, The Creativity showed the positive relationship with learning motivation, the negative relationship with avoid motivation, and moderate relationship with competitive motivation. This result suggested that it is very important to encourage gifted students to the intrinsic motivation rather than extrinsic motivation like competition or achievement in education.

The Different Role of Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivation in Achieving Creativity (창의성 증진에 있어서 내.외재동기의 차별적 효과에 관한 연구)

  • This study explored how intrinsic and extrinsic motivation relates to achieving creativity at project work. We were interested in differences in how motivational factors relate to creativity. Using data from the 98 engineers and researchers employed by a variety of companies, principal components factor analysis with marimax rotation was performed on the data. We examined effects of the moderate variables the intrinsic and extrinsic motivation and creativity relationship. The results indicate of positive mental involvement, the time and the resource constraints relates positively to creativity in organizations and that the relationship is a simple linear one. These outcomes are significantly related to intrinsic motivation and the creativity. In additions, extrinsic motivation is related to less the creativity. Our survey findings are also consistent with other sources of knowledge on the topic. Our results suggest that there are two different role: mental involvement, time and resources constraints, both of which predict creativity, and external control and extrinsic motivations reduce to creativity.

Factors Influencing Competence: On Academic Motivation and Learning Strategies of Gifted and Non-gifted Students (유능감에 영향을 주는 요인: 영재와 평재의 학업동기 및 학습전략을 중심으로)

  • This study was to examine whether high school students' academic motivation and learning strategies influence their competence. Of the 600 high school students surveyed from 3 high schools in two metropolitan cities, Korea, 489 completed and returned the questionnaires yielding a total response rate of 81.50%. The final sample consisted of 399 males (81.6%) and 82 females (16.8%). Among the final sample, 113 students were gifted, and 376 students were non-gifted. Their average age was 17.20 years. Measures of students' competence (i.e., cognitive competence, and social competence), academic motivation (i.e., intrinsic motivation to know, toward accomplishment, and to experience stimulation, and extrinsic motivation identified, introjected, and external regulation, and amotivation), and learning strategies (i.e., metacognition, self-monitoring, strategy formation) Spearman's rho(${\rho}$) indicated that students' competence was positively associated with intrinsic (i.e., to know, toward accomplishment, to experience stimulation) and extrinsic (i.e., identified, introjected) motivation, and learning strategies. However, students' competence was negatively associated with amotivation. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses showed that intrinsic motivation (i.e., to experience stimulation), extrinsic motivation(i.e., external regulation), and learning strategies (i.e., strategy formation) were the crucial contributors for enhancing students' competence. Results are discussed in relation to theoretical implications and school settings.

The Effect of Education based on Simulation with Problem-based Learning on Nursing Students' Learning Motivation, Learning Strategy, and Academic Achievement (문제중심학습 연계 시뮬레이션 기반 교육이 간호대학생의 학습동기, 학습전략 및 학업성취도에 미치는 효과)

  • This study was conducted in order to develop an education program based on simulation with problem-based learning, to apply it to nursing students, and to examine its effects on the students' learning motivation, learning strategy, and academic achievement. The subjects of this study were 69 seniors majoring in nursing. Education based on simulation with problem-based learning was applied to the students from September to October in 2015, and then a questionnaire survey was conducted on their learning motivation, learning strategy, and academic achievement. According to the results of this study, the education based on simulation with problem-based learning reduced the nursing students' other-directed motivation (external motivation), increased their self-regulation motivation (identified motivation, intrinsic motivation), and improved their use of resource management strategies. In addition, academic achievement (academic performance, and educational satisfaction) was in a positive correlation with identified motivation and learning strategies (cognitive strategy, meta cognitive strategy, and resource management strategy). In conclusion, education based on simulation with problem-based learning was found to be an effective education strategy for enhancing nursing students' autonomous motivation and improving their use of resource management strategies. Thus, it is necessary to promote the application of simulation with problem-based learning in various care situations and to study factors and parameters influencing learning related variables.
