  • The purpose of this study was to investigate college life adaptation and loneliness of non-traditional adult learners with nursing major. A cross-sectional survey was conducted on one hundred and ten participants from selected universities in G city. A structured questionnaire which included general characteristics, a College Life Adaptation Scale and a Revised UCLA Loneliness Scale was a study instrument. Descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficients were used for data analysis. The average level of college life adaptation was 44.8, while the score for loneliness was found to be 40.3. There was a significant difference in college life adaptation according to perceived health status. Loneliness showed a significant difference according to grades. A significant positive correlation was observed between college life adaptation and loneliness. In other words, the greater the loneliness, the lower the adaptation to college life. Thus, the results suggest that Korean universities should pay close attention to psychological factors such as loneliness to improve the adaptation of non-traditional adult learners with varied backgrounds to college.

  • This study investigated the differences in smart speaker users' loneliness, social disconnection, and attachment, frequency of daily speaker usage, and anthropomorphic behavior depending on the level of smart speaker anthropomorphism. A total of 320 users participated in an online survey. Results showed significant differences between the high anthropomorphism group and the low anthropomorphism group in their level of loneliness, social disconnection, anxiety attachment, frequency of daily speaker usage, and anthropomorphic behaviors. However, no significant difference in avoidance attachment between the two groups was found. The findings imply that interaction design can possibly enhance positive social interaction with smart speakers.

This study was conducted through secondary data analysis using total survey data for the elderly living alone in O province. The subjects of this study were 466 elderly people who were diagnosed with diabetes among the elderly living alone. The data of this study were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, multi-linear regression analysis, and the three-step mediating effect verification procedure of Baron & Kenny using the SPSS 26.0 program. The average loneliness score and average depression score of the subjects were 4.52±3.30 and 4.88±4.03, respectively, and 27.3% of the subjects said they had a suicidal ideation. The subject's loneliness (β=.20, p=.005) and depression (β=.30, p<.001) was found to be a significant factor in predicting suicide ideation. In addition, depression was found to be partially mediated in the relationship between loneliness and suicidal ideation. Through the results of this study, loneliness and depression were found to be important factors related to suicidal ideation in the elderly with diabetes living alone. In addition, in order to improve suicidal ideation in the elderly with diabetes living alone, intervention to lower the level of loneliness and depression is necessary.
