Variation of Allochthonous Gravels in the Beach Gravel Deposit of the Island Dokdo Natural Reserve (독도천연보호구역 해빈자갈퇴적층(몽돌 해변)의 외래 역 분포 변화)

  • Five year term monitoring investigating variation of allochthonous originated gravels are has been conducted in the beach gravel deposit of the Island Dokdo natural reserve which takes purity and uniqueness with enormous attention though a number of areas. The beach gravel deposits near the dock of the Dongdo and near the accommodation facility of the Seodo comprise various types of gravels including basalt, trachyte, and tuff from the Dokdo itself, and granite, rhyolite, gneiss, quartzite, marble, and concrete from elsewhere. The types of the allochthonous gravels on the basis of the study in 2011 and in 2016 shows no difference, so is the ranking of abundance of the allochthonous gravels; granite-concrete-gneiss in turn on the Dongdo, concrete-gneiss-granite in turn on the Seodo. Nevertheless, the relative ratio of the allochthonous gravel area against the total area is decreased. While it is suspected that the disintegrated facility and the influx of material for construction are the main 2 reasons for the contamination by allochthonous gravel, diminished total contamination ratio indicate that supervising allochthonous material has been improved; at least not worse during the 5 years. On the other hand, it is inferred that gradual influence of rockfall also has been made the gravel beach changed. Therefore, consistent rockfall investigation must be inquired.

Effect of Zebularine on Chromosomal Association between Meiotic Homoeologous Chromosomes in Wheat Genetic Background (Triticum aestivum L.) (제부라린이 생식세포분열 동안 동조 염색체 사이의 염색체 접합에 미치는 영향)

  • The objective of this study was to identify the effect of zebularine, a DNA methylation inhibitor, on the chromosomal association between homoeologous chromosomes in the wheat genetic background. Zebularine at a final concentration of 10 µM was used to treat the spikes of the double monosomic wheat addition line (DMA) with one Leymus mollis chromosome and one Leymus racemosus chromosome, both of which were in a homoeologous relationship. In late prophase, zebularine led to chromosome breakage in the Leymus homoeologous chromosomes. Chromosome breakage caused an increase in the frequency of chromosomal associations between the Leymus homoeologous chromosomes. Ordinary DMA showed 65 cells (35.3%) with chromosomal associations and 119 cells (64.7%) with no association, whereas treated DMA showed 102 cells (60.0%) with chromosomal associations and 67 cells (39.4%) with no association. In diakinesis, the Leymus bivalent showed a chromosomal association in the whole euchromatic region. In metaphase, the Leymus bivalent showed association in the whole chromosomal region, unlike other Leymus bivalents with partial chromosomal association. Chromosomal association by chromosome breakage occurred not only between Leymus chromosomes but also between Leymus and wheat chromosomes. The frequency of other chromosomal association (such as fusion and insert) was increased. Chromosome breakage by zebularine treatment is a useful method at the chromosome level as the spores with others are hereditary stable, although the homologous index (h) was not significantly different between ordinary DMA and treated DMA. It is necessary to study how to control zebularine treatment with a more stable concentration for chromosome breakage during meiosis.

Analysis of Functional Traits of Non-woody Native and Naturalized Plant Species Living in a Riparian Park Area near the Hapcheon-Changyeong Weir in Nakdong River (낙동강 합천창녕보 주변 습지공원지역에 서식하는 자생 초본식물과 귀화 초본식물의 기능 형질 분석)

  • The two main hypotheses that explain why invasive alien plants successfully colonize new environments are: 1) invasive alien plants are functionally different from native plants in a community, and 2) the plants can adapt well to new environments because they are functionally similar to native plants. The present study investigated the functional traits of naturalized alien herbaceous plants and their native neighbors in a riparian park area near the Hapcheon-Changyeong weir along the Nakdong River to determine which of the two hypotheses applied to the study area. According to the results, leaf functional traits, such as leaf area, specific leaf area, leaf thickness, leaf dry matter content, leaf nitrogen content, and leaf carbon content differed between naturalized alien and native plants, which could be attributed to the higher leaf nitrogen contents in naturalized alien plants than in native plants. The high leaf nitrogen contents are associated with high photosynthetic rates, which lead to effective resource use and rapid growth; therefore, naturalized alien plants growing in the study area were considered to have such functional traits. The results of the present study support the hypothesis that the successful establishment of invasive alien plants is attributed to the functional trait differences between invasive and native plants.

Current Status of Exotic Turtles Found in Jungnang Stream Located in Urban Area, Seoul, Republic of Korea (한국의 서울 도심에 위치한 중랑천의 외래거북 현황)

  • Invasive species are introduced for various purposes, such as pets and food, and the trade of reptiles among them has continuously increased due to their unusual or rare external character traits. As their imports increase, the number of exotic reptiles in the wild is also increasing, and most of the recently discovered exotic turtles have been found near urban areas. Therefore, this study aims to report the current status of exotic turtles inhabiting the Jungnang Stream in downtown Seoul, Republic of Korea. As a result of the survey, seven species of exotic turtles were identified: Chrysemys picta picta, Pseudemys concinna, P. nelsoni, Trachemys scripta elegans, T. s. scripta, T. s. troostii, and Mauremys sinensis. One native turtle species was found: Pelodiscus maackii. Six species are designated as "ecosystem disturbance species" in the Republic of Korea. The dominant species was P. concinna, and C. p. picta, which is still traded in pet shops, was also found. The results have confirmed the current status of exotic turtles in urban rivers, and it was determined that the results show that they are continuously entering the wild.

Comparisons of the Equity of Medical Care Utilization by Sex, Age Groups, and Region (성, 연령, 지역에 따른 의료이용 형평성의 집단 간 비교)

  • This study decomposed Concentration Index(CI) and Hiwv Index(HI) of medical care utilization by subgroups: sex, age group, and region. CI and HI were decomposed into "the between group" component, "within group" component, and a residual. The results of analysis are summarized as follows; First, there was no influence of sex on the equity of medical care utilization measured by the numbers of visiting clinic. However, "within group" component of female explained .0441 among HI, .1035. This means that poor women's underutilization of medical care is the important factor in determining its degree of equity. Second, age groups had a decisive effect on the equity of medical care utilization measured by the numbers of visiting clinic. they explained -.0085 among HI, -.0170. Third, internal equality within elderly group was the most important factor in determining HI measured by the medical care cost. Finally, "within group" component of urban area explained .0535 amomg HI, ,1035 measured by medical care cost. This indicated that the urban poor's underutilization of medical care was very important factor in explaining its degree of equity. There was the poor's underutilization of medical care within the groups as female, the elderly, and urban areas. This significantly explained the equity of medical care costs.

Medical Care Utilization between National Health Insurance and Medical Assistance in Elderly Patients (건강보험과 의료급여 노인환자의 의료이용량 : 요양기관종별 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the difference of medical care between medical assistance and health insurance patients to evaluate the increase of medical care costs due to the moral hazard of medical care patients and to provide a basis for rational medical care policy decision. For this purpose, we compared health insurance benefit data for Seoul citizens by gender, age, and type of medical institutions. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, all of the hospitalized and outpatient use of the advanced general Hospitals, medical assistance patients were less than those of the health insurance patients, so that the medical assistance patients could not use the high cost medical services. Second, in general hospitals, patients with health insurance are often hospitalized. On the other hand, medical assistance patients use a lot of outpatient services because they are less burdened. Third, in hospitals and clinics, medical benefits patients often use inpatient and outpatient services. Therefore, medical assistance patients are likely to use unnecessary medical care of outpatient and hospitalization clinics and hospitals, outpatient of general hospitals. But, in hospitalization and outpatient use in advanced general hospitals and medical assistance patients can not use due to excessive medical burden. Therefore, the policy to reduce the burden of medical expenses for patients with severe illness will continue, and the medical care patients using clinics and hospitals should be careful not to use unnecessary medical services.

  • Escherichia coli and Saccharomyces cerevisiae have been used as host for production of recombinant proteins. It is known that S. cerevisiae has advantages such as good folding and secretion capability, and safety as host over E. coli. But S. cerevisiae has shortcomings of low expression level which is just 20% of that of E. coli. To solve this problem, directed evolution method was tried to enhance the GAP promoter strength of S. cerevisiae in this study. As result, modified GAP promoter that has increased expression level of about 360% compared to that of wild type was selected.

Two unrecorded alien plants in South Korea: Holosteum umbellatum L. and Asperugo procumbens L. (한국 미기록 외래식물: 산형나도별꽃, 갈퀴지치)

  • Two alien plants Holosteum umbellatum L. and Asperugo procumbens L., belonging to Boraginaceae and Caryophyllaceae, respectively, have been first recorded in Hongseong-gun, Chungcheongnam-do and Incheon, South Korea. This initial investigation reports to inform the importance of detection and extermination of these potential weeds in surrounding areas. Furthermore, we report the morphological characteristic features of these two alien plants.

  • Introduction : 최근 의료기관 내 진료비 정산으로 인한 전산화사업이 적극 추진되면서 각 의료기관은 생성된 자료의 목적과는 무관하게 대량의 자료를 지니고 있으면서도 병원경영과 관련하게 자료를 활용하고 있지 못하다.Objectives : 병원 입원환자의 데이터를 분석하여 입원환자의 이탈요인을 파악하여 이탈을 방지하고 지속적인 의료서비스를 제공할 수 있도록 하고자 한다. Method : 본 연구는 일개병원을 퇴원환자를 대상으로 2006년 1월 1일~2007년 12월 31일 동안의 퇴원환자 데이터를 기반으로 연구되었다. 퇴원환자 38,359명의 병원데이터 베이스를 기반으로 동일 연구기간 외래 누적데이터 375,659건의 외래환자 데이터와 비교하여 퇴원환자 중 재입원 예약 및 외래진료 예약 부도여부를 비교하는 후향적 연구를 수행하였다. 2008년 1월 1일 기준 재입원 예약 및 외래진료 예약부도 발생여부를 기준으로 계속진료환자 그릅과 이탈환자그룹을 생성하였다. 중복을 제거한 총 대상은 3,503명이였다. Discussion :본 연구에서 얻어진 결과를 기초로 퇴원환자의 이탈률이 높은 환자그룹을 집중 관리하여 이탈을 방지하고 관심을 갖고 향후 잠재적 이탈 고객을 다시 유입할 수 있는 많은 방안들이 마련되어야 할 것이다.
