Image Compression System Implementation Based on DWT (DWT 기반 영상압축 시스템 구현)

  • In this paper, a system which can compress and reconstruct the digital image was implemented using 2 dimensional DWT(Discrete Wavelet Transform). The proposed system consists of the FPGA board tocompress the image and the application software(S/W) to reconstruct it. First the FPGA receives the image from AID converter and compresses the image using wavelet transform. The compressed data is transferred into the PC using the PCI interface. The compressed image is reconstructed by an application S/W inside the PC. The image compressor can compress about 60 fields per second, in which the image format was NTSC YCbCr(4:2:2) and the image size was 640${\times}$240 pixels per field. The designed hardware mapped into one FPGA occupying 11,120 LAB (Logic Array Block) and 27,456 ESB(Embedded System Block) in APEX20KC EP20K1000B652-7. It globally uses 33MHz clock and the memory control part uses 100MHz.

  • This paper describes multiparticle finite element model (MPFEM)-based powder compaction simulations performed to demonstrate the densification of compacted aluminum powders. A 2D MPFEM was used to explore the densification of a collection of aluminum particles with different average particle sizes under various ram speeds. Individual particles are discretized using a finite element mesh for a detailed description of contact mechanics. Porous aluminum powders with average particle sizes of $20\;{\mu}m$ and $3\;{\mu}m$ were compressed uniaxially at ram speeds of 5, 15, 30, and 60 mm/min by using an MTS servo-hydraulic tester. The slow ram speed was of great advantage to powder densification in low compaction force due to sufficient particle rearrangement. Owing to a decrease in the average particle size of aluminum, the compaction force increased.

  • Compression wood and opposite wood formed in a branch of Taxodium distichum Rich. is described and compared in qualitative and quantitative anatomical aspects. The qualitative features of compression wood appeared to differ from those of opposite wood in very gradual tracheid transition from earlywood to latewood, roundish tracheid shape on cross surface, tracheid tip distortion on radial surface, and existence of intercellular spaces and helical cavities. In quantitative features, compression wood tracheids showed shorter lengths than opposite wood. The ray density and the number of uniseriate rays were greater in compression wood than in opposite wood but the height of uniseriate rays in compression wood was smaller than in opposite wood.

  • This paper Extended ELZW(EBCDIC Lempel Ziv Welch) algorithm uses 2 byte prefix field for pointer of a table and 1 byte suffix field for repeat counter. where, a prefix field uses a pointer(index) of compression table and a suffix field uses a counter of overlapping or recursion text data in compression table. To increase compression ratio, after construction of compression table, table data are properly packed as different bit string in accordance with a alphabet, Hangeul, and pointer respectively. Therefore, proposed ELZW algorithm is superior to 1byte LZW algorithm as 5.22 percent and superior to 2byte LZW algorithm as 8.96 percent.

  • This research dealt with the effect of steel-fiber reinforcement on the compressive strength of ultra high performance cementitious composites (UHPCC) and compared with that in normal steel-fiber reinforced concrete(SFRC). With wide range of compressive strength of UHPCC, experiments on the fiber reinforcement effect confirmed that the compressive strength in UHPCC is also improved by adding fibers as in normal SFRC. The experimental results were compared with previous researches about reinforcement effect by adding fibers, which are limited within 100MPa compressive strength. The comparison revealed the linear relationship between $f'_{cf}-f'_c$ and RI regardless of the magnitude of compressive strength, from which a general equation to express the effect of fiber reinforcement, applicable to various SFRC's with wide range of compressive strength including UHPCC.

  • Gyeongju bentonite is a buffer material primarily considered in Korea and it is highly compacted as a part of an engineered barrier system (EBS) of high-level radioactive waste repository. The compacted bentonite undergoes swelling stress by groundwater penetration and thermal stress by decay heat from a canister. Therefore, the mechanical properties of the compacted bentonite buffer material is crucial for the performance assessment of EBS. This paper aims to evaluate deformation properties of Gyeongju compacted bentonite using seismic methods. Two sets of compacted bentonite specimens were prepared having dry densities of $1.59g/cm^3$ and $1.75g/cm^3$ with water contents of 10.6% and 8.7%. Free-free resonant column tests were performed to measure constrained and unconstrained compression wave velocities. With the measured wave velocities, Young's modulus ($E_{max}$) and constrained modulus ($M_{max}$), material damping ratio ($D_{min}$), and Poisson's ratio at small strain were determined. As results, this paper evaluates the deformation properties of Gyeongju compacted bentonite and compares them with the results of previous researches.

  • H.264/AVC는 ITU-T H.264와 ISO/IEC 14496-10(MPEG-4 Part 10)으로 승인된 새로운 국제 비디오 압축 표준이다. H.264/AVC는 압축부호화 효율(이하 압축률)이 높으며 MPEG-2나 MPEG-4등에 비해 압축률이 2배 이상 향상되었으나 복잡도 또한 훨씬 증가하였다. 월등한 압축성능 때문에 방송 분야(DTV 등), 저장용 시스템 분야(PVR 등)에 많은 응용 분야들에 적용하기 위한 움직임이 있다. 그러나, 디코더로 구현하면 복잡도 증가하는 문제가 발생한다. HD급을 지원하기 위한 메모리 대역폭의 경우 MPEG-2 HD에 비해 H.264/AVC만의 복잡한 움직임 보상으로 인해 2배 이상이 요구된다. H.264/AVC 디코더는 두 개의 참조픽처를 이용하여 움직임 보상하는 B-픽처와 쌍예측 픽처가있다. 여기서, 참조픽처를 각각 하나씩만 사용하여 디코딩 하면 기존의 복잡도를 줄일 수 있다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 방법은 하나의 참조픽처 선택으로 H.264/AVC 소프트웨어 디코더에서 움직임 보상을 한다. 이로 인하여 복잡도와 메모리 대역폭이 감소하는 방법을 제안한다.

The Mechanical Properties of Heat-Compressed Radiata Pine (Pinus radiata D.Don) by Compression Set (열압밀화 라디에타 소나무재의 압축세트량에 따른 역학적 특성)

  • The mechanical properties of heat-compressed Radiata pine (Pinus radiata D.Don) by compression set were investigated. Heat-compression condition was temperature at $180^{\circ}C$ and press time for 60 minutes. The mechanical properties of heat-compressed wood increased with increasing compression set. Increase of the specific gravity has led to increase in mechanical properties. The maximum compression set of Radiata pine was investigated approximately 65%. It was almost same result with porosity 68% of Radiata pine in specific gravity 0.48.

  • This paper describes the basic principles of 3D broadcast system and proposes new 3D broadcast technology that reduces the amount of data by applying CS(Compressed Sensing). Differences between Sampling theory and the CS technology concept were described. Recently proposed CS algorithm AMP(Approximate Message Passing) and CoSaMP(Compressive Sampling Matched Pursuit) were described. This paper compared an accuracy between two algorithms and a calculation time that image data compressed and restored by these algorithms. As result determines a low complexity algorithm for 3D broadcast system.
