The findings of the CLR-OPAC studies and the major OPAC user studies are analyzed and sythesized. They are described, dividing into three categories: characteristics of users, user instruction, and user interface. Data gathering methods, and their strengths and weaknesses are also discussed.

As the OPAC has been changed by the automation of library catalog, AACR2 recognized as internationally standardized Cataloging Rules, and MARC transforming to automation program have some partial irrationality. In this study, I presented the methodology improving practically and specifically Cataloging Rules adjusted to Online environment, especially centering on AACR2R, after I reviewed the literature asserting a criticism and a renewal of AACR2 and MARC.

In this study in order to verify the overall information seeking behavior of the Web-based OPAC users, it was analyzed transaction log file for 7 years. Regarding Web-based OPAC information seeking behavior, it was studied from the perspective of information seeking strategy and information seeking failure. In search strategy, it was analyzed search type, search options, Boolean operator, length of search text, number of uses of word, number of use Web-based OPAC, number of use by time, by week day. Also, in search failure, search failure ratio, search failure ratio by search options, search failure ratio by Boolean operator were analyzed. The result of this study is expected to be utilized for OPAC system and service improvement in the future.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the characteristics of user interface that affect the searching behavior of OPAC users. and then to propose how to design user-friendly interfaces of OPACS. An experiment was conducted on two systems with different interfaces to grasp the effect of user interface to search process and search outcome. A $2\times2$ cross-over design was used for the experiment. Sixty five searchers participated in the experiment. Several statistical techniques such as carry-over effect and system effect of a $2\times2$ cross-over design, $\chi^2$ test, t- test, McNemar test, test of marginal homogeneity through maximum likelihood method, factor analysis, regression analysis, and analysis of variance were applied according to the hypotheses tested and the data analyzed.

본 연구에서 구축된 멀티미디어 도서관 정보시스템은 대학도서관을 기본 모형으로 하여 설계하였다. 이 시스템은 7 개의 모듈 즉 참고문헌제공 전문가시스템, 학술지 브라우징, 멀티미디어 데이타베이스, 텍스트 데이타베이스(온라인 열람목록, OPAC), 외부데이타베이스(온라인/CD-ROM/인터넷 데이터베이스), 도서관 이용안내, 시스템이용법으로 구성된다. 시스템의 구현 환경은 IBM 컴퓨터 466DX2/Dp을 사용하고 시스템 개발도구로는 하이퍼텍스트 기능이 첨가된 멀티미디어 저작 도구인 멀티미디어 툴북을 이용하고 이용자 인터페이스는 메뉴방식을 채택하였다.

This study is to develop a hierarchic clustering model fur document classification and browsing in OPAC systems. Two automatic indexing techniques (with and without controlled terms), two term weighting methods (based on term frequency and binary weight), five similarity coefficients (Dice, Jaccard, Pearson, Cosine, and Squared Euclidean). and three hierarchic clustering algorithms (Between Average Linkage, Within Average Linkage, and Complete Linkage method) were tested on the document collection of 175 books and theses on library and information science. The best document clusters resulted from the Between Average Linkage or Complete Linkage method with Jaccard or Dice coefficient on the automatic indexing with controlled terms in binary vector. The clusters from Between Average Linkage with Jaccard has more likely decimal classification structure.

The purpose of this study is to present the design of search interface of mobile catalog of University libraries by identifying the current situation of search interface of mobile catalog of domestic and overseas academic libraries and users' preferences derived by survey, and reflecting the combined results. The investigation on current situation of search interface of mobile catalog of domestic University libraries was carried out by using checklist for functional assessment targeting 82 mobile catalogs. For overseas examples, contents and functional elements about 15 mobile catalog search interface of academic libraries in England and US were examined and analyzed. In addition, three domestic University libraries's mobile catalogs were selected as research targets and the survey was carried out to identify the situation of use of mobile catalog and preference on search interface.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the present state of the enriched contents of OPACs of public libraries in Korea. Examined are the OPACs of 125 public libraries which hold Jeon Du-hwan Hoegorok, and 260 public libraries which hold Banil Jongjokjuui retrieved from KOLIS-NET of the National Library of Korea from Sept. through Oct. 2019. The enriched contents of these controversial books are mostly provided by Naver, Daum, and Aladin Internet Bookstore, and their so-called summaries, reviews, etc. are actually only excerpts supplied by publishers. They are given only as a link to external sources or the whole or partial display in a bibliographic record. Since these enriched contents contain only publishers' promotional statements, but not any objective and professional review, they are not much useful for library users. Therefore, more active participation of librarians in creating or evaluating the enriched contents are proposed, especially for such controversial books.

This study examined the main concepts of SOA and Web Services, and conducted technical analysis of major Web Services protocols such as SOAP, REST, SRW/U, and OAI-PMH that realize SOA, and suggested examples of SOAP and REST based Web Services establishments in foreign and domestic libraries respectively. In addition, it introduced application examples of Library 2.0 using Web 2.0 technology in foreign and domestic libraries and suggested how to apply SOA based Web Services protocol in Library 2.0. Finally, it proposed how to put Library 2.0 into practice applying meta-searching system integrating library OPAC, online bookstores, web portal sites and library union catalogs using REST based Open API.

Currently, most academic libraries provide OPAC 2.0 service which applies Web 2.0 based-internet search engine to OPAC. The new service is for the users' convenience and so the considerations for the users' opinions are of great importance for each of services. The objectives of the study were to investigate perceptions of the students as the main user for academic library on the importance for the main services of OPAC 2.0 and analyzed information sources and the reasons for book search by the virtue of this service. The study showed that there were the users' high expectations on accuracy and satisfaction for OPAC 2.0, and the main searching information source was the OPAC of the universities to which the users belong due to familiar screen as well as convenient reading and book loan through it. The OPAC 2.0 service needs to be improved with the consideration of the users' opinions.
