  • When concrete structures expose to fire, the structures were damaged accompanied with degradation of material properties of concrete. In order to determine the reuse of fire-damaged concrete structures, it is needed a careful determination considering conditions of fire damage, such as exposure temperature and exposure time, and also potential to restore fire damage. This study investigates on the evaluation of residual material properties of fire-damaged concrete under different post-fire curing regimes. An experimental study was performed on concrete samples to measure the dynamic elastic modulus by the impact resonance vibration method. Upon the experimental results, the evidence of restoration of material properties was confirmed on specific post-fire curing regimes, higher humidity conditions. Additionally, a correlation analysis was performed on the dynamic elastic modulus with the tensile strength for identifying the effects of post-fire curing regimes on both material properties of fire-damaged concrete.

  • A damage-reduced trench was investigated in view of the defect distribution along trench sidewall and bottom using high resolution transmission electron microscopy, which was formed by HBr plasma and additive gases in magnetically enhanced reactive ion etching system. Adding $O_2$ and other additive gases into HBr plasma makes it possible to eliminate sidewall undercut and lower surface roughness by forming the passivation layer of lateral etching. To reduce the RIE induced damage and obtain the fine shape trench corner rounding, we investigated the hydrogen annealing effect after trench formation. Silicon atomic migration on trench surfaces using high temperature hydrogen annealing was observed with atomic scale view. Migrated atoms on crystal surfaces formed specific crystal planes such as (111), (113) low index planes, instead of fully rounded comers to reduce the overall surface energy. We could observe the buildup of migrated atoms against the oxide mask, which originated from the surface migration of silicon atoms. Using this hydrogen annealing, more uniform thermal oxide could be grown on trench surfaces, suitable for the improvement of oxide breakdown.

  • Positron annihilation characteristics and microhardness of 25% cold worked and isochronally annealed hafnium specimens were measured to study recovery and recrystallization stages of hafnium specimens. The annihilation lifetime of positrons in hafnium has been measured for the distinct cases of annihilation in the annealed lattice and annihilation after trapping at lattice defects generated by cold deformation at room temperature. The annihilation lifetime in the annealed lattice was 187 $\pm$3.7 psec, whereas it was 217 $\pm$ 4.2 psec for positrons trapped at deformation-induced defects (mostly dislocations). The changes in Doppler broadening and hardness showed similar trend in the recrystallization range, however, the measured value of Doppler broadening variation were quite sensitive to changes in the recovery region in which the variation in hardness value was completely insensitive. Recovery of cold worked hafnium initiated at about 623 K and recrystallization occurred at around 1023 K.

  • Temperature-sensitive revertant could grow on acetic acid at 23$^{\circ}C$ but not at 33$^{\circ}C$, MX9-11RX8, isolated from mutant deficient in the activity of isocitrate lyase and its properties were investigated. The activity of isocitrate lyase and specific rate of isocitrate lyase synthesis decreased according to in-crease culture temperature from 23 to 33 $^{\circ}C$ in acetic acid as carbon source. A rapid cessation of in-crease enzyme activity observed when the temperature was shift up from 23 to 33$^{\circ}C$ but cell growth was continued. On the other hand, the revertant also exhibited temperature-sensitive in n-hexade-cane medium as carbon source, and the amount of isocitric acid was nearly equal produced to that at 23 $^{\circ}C$ when the temperature shift up from 23 to 33 $^{\circ}C$.

  • It was investigated the hardness and dimensional stability of heat-compressed wood by compression temperature and time. The surface hardness of heat-compressed wood increased with increasing compression temperature. The lowest hardness value (5.0 N/$mm^2$) was observed in the temperature $70^{\circ}C$ while the highest value (15.6 N/$mm^2$) was obtained in compression temperature $220^{\circ}C$. Dimensional recovery test results showed that fixation of compression set improved with increasing compression temperature. However, the fixation effects were negligible by press time. Contact angle increased with increasing press temperature and time.

  • The nitrogen removal characteristics of the MBR system consisted of two intermittent reactors, a membrane reactor and a deaeration reactor under constant flow and wastewater composition at different operational temperature and SRTs (Sludge Retention Times) were studied by computer simulation. The nitrogen removal efficiencies were dropped from 59% to 31%, when operational temperature was increased to $25^{\circ}C$ from $13^{\circ}C$ with same SRT of 25 days. Lower RBO (Readily Biodegradable Organic) concentrations at intermittent reactors at $25^{\circ}C$ compared with those at $13^{\circ}C$ of operational temperature were believed to be the main cause. The nitrogen removal efficiencies and RBO concentrations at each intermittent reactors were recovered when SRT was reduced to 12.6 days at $25^{\circ}C$. The effect of both SRT and operational temperature on RBO concentrations at intermittent reactors is need to be studied further.

  • This study was carried out to investigate effects of different night temperature treatments during nursery period on flower bud differentiation and growth of pepper cv. Cheongyang. Number of leaves, top fresh weight and top dry weight of pepper seedlings were increased with increasing the night temperature during nursery periods. And also flower bud differentiation and days to flowering were accelerated as increasing the night temperature. Plant height, stem diameter, branch length and intermode length of pepper after transplanting were height at the low night temperature ($28/11^{\circ}C$), but they were retarded at the high night temperature ($28/21^{\circ}C$) treatment. Number of lateral branches was significantly reduced at the high night temperature, but there was no a regular tendency in branching habit of the main stem by temperature treatments. Seedling growth before transplanting was retarded at the low night temperature but gradually recovered after transplanting into the plastic house. However, seedling growth at the high night temperature was shown in contrast to above response of the low night temperature.

  • Aerodynamic heating temperature shown in a NASA's sounding rocket test data was reproduced with CFD technique, comparing with those with analytical method CFD made heat transfer rates and recovery temperatures as the flight trajectory, which made it possible to calculate the wall temperature of rocket. The predicted wall temperature was compared with analytically predicted temperatures. Both the temperatures were compatible although their recovery temperature and heat transfer rates are a little different.
