Passive Ranging Sonar (PRS) is a type of passive sonar consisting of three sub-array on the port and starboard, and has a characteristic of detecting a target and calculating a bearing and a distance. The bearing and distance calculation requires physical sub-array position information, and the bearing and distance accuracy performance are deteriorated when the position information of the sub-array is inaccurate. In particular, it has a greater impact on distance accuracy performance using plus value of two time-delay than a bearing using average value of two time-delay. In order to improve this, a study on sub-array position error estimation and error compensation is needed. In this paper, We estimate the sub-array position error based on enetic algorithm, an optimization search technique, and propose a method to improve the performance of distance accuracy by compensating the time delay error caused by the position error. In addition, we will verify the proposed algorithm and its performance using the sea-going data.
The Line array sonar consisting of several hydrophones increases array gain and improves the performance for detecting the direction of the target compared to single hydrophone. However, line array sonar produces the bearing error that makes it difficult to determine the bearing of incoming source signal due to the relation between bearing angle of target and vertical angle of multipath signals. Vertical angles of multipath are varied with the geometry of receiver and target and various underwater environments, therefore it is necessary to consider the bearing error to estimate accurately the bearing of the target. In this study, acoustic modelling was performed to understand the effect of multipath signals on the target signal. The errors of bearing angle estimated from the bottom bounced signals are calculated with several environment. In addition, the expected bearing line, as a function of source-receiver range, compensated for the bearing error is predicted from the estimated bearing angle.

Due to the decrease of line width and increase of the integration level of the device, it is expected that 'Bottom-up' method will replace currently used 'Top-down' method. Researches about 'Bottom-up' device production such as Nanowires and Nanobelts are widely held on. To utilize these technologies in devices, properties of matter should be exactly measured. Nano-indenters are used to measure the properties of nano-scale structures. Additionally, Nano-indenters provide AFM(Atomic Force Microscopy) function to get the image of the surface and get physical properties for exact position of nano-structure using this image. However, nano-indenter tips have relatively much bigger size than ordinary AFM probes, there occurs considerable error in surface image by Nano-Indenter. Accordingly, this research used 50nm Berkovich tip and 1um $90^{\circ}$ Conical tip, which are commonly used in Nano-Indenter. To find out the surface characteristics for each kind of tip, we indented the surface of thin layer by each tip and compared surface image and indentation depth. Then, we got image of 100nm-size structure by surface scanning using Nano-Indenter and compared it with surface image gained by current AFM technology. We calculated the errors between two images and compared it with theoretical error.

This paper is a study on the evaluation of loss factor of damping treatment materials to reduce the noise and vibration for panels of railway vehicles and automobiles. In order to determine the modal parameters of damping materials, beam excitation tests were carried out using different type PVC coated aluminum and steel base beam specimens. The specimens were excited from 10 Hz to 1000 Hz frequency range using sinusoidal force, and transfer mobility data were measured by using an accelerometer. The loss factors were determined by using integrated program, based on theories of Half Power Method, Minimum Tangent Error Method, Minimum Angle Error Method and Phase Change Method, which enable to evaluate the parameters using modal circle fit and least squares error method. In the case of lower loss factor and data of linear characteristics, any method could be applied for evaluation of parameters, however the case of higher loss factor or data including non-linear characteristics, the minimum angle error method could reduce the loss factor evaluation. The obtained dynamic properties of the coating material could be used for application of Finite Element Method analyzing the noise control effects of complex structures such as carbody or under-floor boxes of rolling stock. The damping material will be very useful to control the structural noise, because the obtained modal loss factors of each mode show very good effect on over $2^{nd}$ mode frequency range.

Sea surface temperature (SST) is a key variable that can be used to understand ocean-atmosphere phenomena and predict climate change. Satellite microwave remote sensing enables the measurement of SST despite the presence of clouds and precipitation in the sensor path. Therefore, considering the high utilization of microwave SST, it is necessary to continuously verify its accuracy and analyze its error characteristics. In this study, the validation of the microwave global precision measurement (GPM)/GPM microwave imager (GMI) SST around the Northwest Pacific and Korean Peninsula was conducted using surface drifter temperature data for approximately eight years from March 2014 to December 2021. The GMI SST showed a bias of 0.09K and an average root mean square error of 0.97K compared to the actual SST, which was slightly higher than that observed in previous studies. In addition, the error characteristics of the GMI SST were related to environmental factors, such as latitude, distance from the coast, sea wind, and water vapor volume. Errors tended to increase in areas close to coastal areas within 300 km of land and in high-latitude areas. In addition, relatively high errors were found in the range of weak wind speeds (<6 m s-1) during the day and strong wind speeds (>10 m s-1) at night. Atmospheric water vapor contributed to high SST differences in very low ranges of <30 mm and in very high ranges of >60 mm. These errors are consistent with those observed in previous studies, in which GMI data were less accurate at low SST and were estimated to be due to differences in land and ocean radiation, wind-induced changes in sea surface roughness, and absorption of water vapor into the microwave atmosphere. These results suggest that the characteristics of the GMI SST differences should be clarified for more extensive use of microwave satellite SST calculations in the seas around the Korean Peninsula, including a part of the Northwest Pacific.

This paper presents a comparative performance analysis of the stochastic gradient adaptive algorithm based on the least mean absolute third (LMAT) error criterion with other widely-used competing adaptive algorithms. Under the assumption that the signals involved are zero-mean, wide-sense stationary and Gaussian, approximate expressions that characterize the steady-state mean-squared estimation error of the algorithm is dervied. The validity of our derivation is then confirement by computer simulations. The convergence speed is compared under the condition that the LMAT and other competing algorithms converge to the same value for the mean-squared estimation error in the stead-state, and superior convergence property of the LMAT algorithm is observed. In particular, it is shown that the LMAT algorithm converges faster than other algorithms even through the eignevalue spread ratio of the input signal and measurement noise power change.
