  • A polypropylene fraction collected from the stream of post-consumer plastics was pyrolyzed. The aim of this study is to observe the dependence of yield of BTEX-aromatics normally used as solvent on the reaction temperature. To reach the goal, three experiments were carried out at different temperature between 650 and $700^{\circ}C$, using a fluidized bed reactor that shows an excellent heat transfer. In the experiments, product gases were used as a fluidizing medium to maximize the amount of BTEX-aromatics at fixed flow rate and feed rate during the pyrolysis. Oil, gas and char were obtained as product fractions. Product gases were analyzed with GCs(TCD, FID) and with a GC-MS system for qualitative analysis. For an accurate analysis of product oil, the product oil was distilled under vacuum, and separated the distillation residues from oil fractions that were actually analyzed with a GC-MS system. As the reaction temperature went higher, the content of BTEX-aromatics increased. The maximal yield of BTEX-aromatics was obtained at $695^{\circ}C$ with a value of about 30%. The main compounds of product gas were $CH_4$, $C_2H_4$, $C_2H_6$, $C_3H_6$, $C_4H_{10}$ and the product gas had an higher heating value about 45MJ/kg. It could be used as a heat source for a pyrolysis plant or for other fuel applications.

  • In this study, waste tire rubbers were pyrolyzed in a lab-scale pyrolysis plant equipped with a fluidized bed reactor in a temperature ranges of $450-650^{\circ}C$. The main object of this work is to investigate the properties of pyrolysis oil with reaction temperatures and the behavior of sulfur in the products when waste polypropylene was added for co-pyrolysis. The maximum yield of oil was about 52wt.% at the reaction temperature of $456^{\circ}C$. From GC-MS analysis, the pyrolysis oils consisted mainly of limonene, toluene, xylene, styrene, trimethylbenzene, methylnaphthalenes and some heteroatom(sulfur and nitrogen)-containing compounds. The addition of waste polypropylene resulted in decrease in sulfur contents of the pyrolysis oils.

  • Passive control of the shock wave/turbulent boundary-layer interaction utilizing slotted plates and a porous plate over a cavity has been carried out. Effect of various slot configurations on the characteristics of the interaction has been observed. Pitot/wall surface pressure distributions and flow visualizations including Schlieren images, kerosene-lampblack tracings and interference fringe patterns over a thin oil-film have been obtained at the downstream of the shock interactions. For the streamwise-slot configuration, a local higher pitot pressure was noticed at the downstream of the interaction as compared with the case of no control, however, not much improvement in pitot pressure was observed for the spanwise-slot configuration.

  • The engine oil is used for lubrication of various internal combustion engines. Recently, the vehicle and engine oil manufacture usually guarantee for oil change over 15000~20000 km mileage, but the most of driver usually change engine oil every 5000 km driving in korea. It can cause to raise environmental contamination by used engine oil and increase the cost of driving by frequently oil change. In this study, we investigate the various physical properties such as flash point, pour point, kinematic viscosity, cold cranking simulator characteristics, total acid number, four-ball test and concentration of metal component for fresh engine oil and used engine oil after real vehicle driving (5000 km, 10000 km). The result showed that the total acid number, wear scar diameter by four-ball test, Fe and Cu had increased than fresh engine oil, but 2 kind of used oil (5000 km and 10000km) had similar physical values and concentration of metal component.

  • In this study, wall to bed heat transfer and hydrodynamic characteristics in a conical fluidized bed combustor was investigated using computational fluid dynamics method. A two-fluid Eulerian-Eulerian model was used with applying the kinetic theory for granular flow(KTGF). The effects of the two drag models, Gidaspow and the Syamlal-O'Brien model, different inlet velocities($1.4U_{mf}{\sim}4U_{mf}$) and different particle sizes on the hydrodynamics and heat transfer were studied. The results showed that the hydrodynamic characteristics such as bed expansion ratio and pressure drop were not affected significantly by the drag models. But the heat transfer coefficient was different for the two drag models, especially at lower gas inlet velocities and small particle sizes.

  • The interaction of the flows induced by stator blades with a ship-like wake is discussed to obtain the flow components of each with and without radial shear. The flow induced by stator blades is modeled by lifting line theory and the shear is taken to be provided by the radial gradient of the peripheral mean axial flow approximated by a logarithmic function of radius for a class of vessels. And the theory is based on the linearized Euler equations in the absence of viscosity. The results show that shear effects are relatively large at inner radii and the distribution of blade pitch angles is most effective in reducing non-uniformity.
