  • The analytical results of wear metals such as Na, Mg, Al, Si, P, Ca, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Mo, Ag, Cd, Sn, Ba, Pb in oil samples are compared by portable and bench-top XRF methods as a basic study for the development of portable X-ray fluorescence spectrometer. The instrumental parameters such as measurement time of portable and bench-top XRF were optimized using certified reference materials of hydrocarbon oil with 20 wear metals in concentration range from 10 to 900 mg/kg. The analytical results of 20 wear metals in certified reference materials and new/used engine oil samples were compared by empirical and fundamental parameter methods.

  • In this study, the extracted oils and commercial oils (Clarisse) were analyzed after GC-MSD fragrance component analysis for each natural essential oil obtained through steam distillation extraction (cypress, seokchangpo, lavender) of a total of three plants grown and grown in Jangheung area. Easy, cinnamon, frankincense) was combined to confirm cytotoxicity, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and whitening effects, confirming its potential as a cosmetic material. As a result of the analysis of fragrance components, sabinene was identified as the main component of cypress oil, asarone in seokchangpo oil, and L-Linalool in lavender oil. At a concentration of 100 𝜇L/mL with no cytotoxicity of 6 essential combination oils, NO production was inhibited by 27.76%, DPPH radical scavenging activity was 99.69%, ABTS radical scavenging activity was 94.66%, and tyrosinase inhibitory activity was 55.9%. Possibility of being useful as a raw material for functional cosmetics was presented.

  • Magnolia kobus is known to exert various biological effects, such as antioxidant and hypnotic activity. In this study, we investigated the antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activity of M. kobus essential oil extracted using steam distillation. Its antimicrobial activity was tested against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa by the paper disk diffusion and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) methods. Its anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated by measuring its inhibition ratio on the production of nitric oxide (NO) and PGE2 in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced RAW264.7 cells. Its composition was analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The results showed that M. kobus essential oil exhibited excellent antibacterial activity against S. aureus, with a clear zone of 18 mm and an MIC value of 0.25 mg/ml. Its clear zones against P. aeruginosa and E. coli were 14 mm and 17 mm, respectively, while its MIC values were 1 mg/ml and 0.5 mg/ml, respectively. The essential oil exhibited no cytotoxicity to the RAW264.7 cells at a concentration of 500 ㎍/ml while showing NO (37.7%) and PGE2 inhibition (24.0%). Its three main fragrance ingredients identified were 3-carene (77.07%), β-elemene (6.92%), and caryphyllene (2.86%). The results suggest that M. kobus essential oil has potential as a cosmetic functional material with antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects.

  • The oil separation in an oil separator is one of the most important characteristics for proper compressor operation. In this study, a gravity type of oil separator is used. Oil separation characteristics has been investigated for $CO_2$/PAG mixture in the range of oil concentration 0 to 5 weight-percent and the mixture temperature range of $5^{\circ}C$ to $15^{\circ}C$ and $70^{\circ}C$ to $90^{\circ}C$. The results obtained indicate that the oil separation is increased with an increase in the oil concentration. It is also found that the oil separation in liquid state is increased with an increase in the mixture temperature while the oil separation in gas state is decreased.

  • This study suggests that ozonated olive oil can kill a wide variety of microorganisms while being less toxic but in the case of administration or abdominal administration, the human body is harmless. In Korea, there is no animal stability test yet. In this study, ozonated olive oil was used to test the stability of the animal through the eye. Specific experiments were performed to evaluate animal Ocular irritation safe test of ozonized oil (high concentration) in rabbits. and Observation of the treatment point on the test substance, ozonated olive oil showed no Ocular irritation in both the non-washing group and the washing group.

  • In this study, partition coefficients(Kw) of phenoxyethanol in oil-water phase according to type of oils was investigated. Partition coefficients(Kw) were experimented by classified oils that hydrocarbones, fatty alcohols, fatty acids, esters, triglycerides and silicones. It was found that partition coefficients(Kw) of hydrocarbons and silicones were low, but partition coefficients(Kw) of fatty acids, fatty alcohols, esters and triglycerides were high. It was known that the emulsions which were made of oils having low partition coefficients value had a good antimicrobial effects. Thus, the cosmetics stability of microorganisms and skin safety of phenoxyethanol could be improved by using the oils which have low partition coefficients value.

  • Lemon and eucalyptus oils were known to have various biological effects such as anti-aging and sterilizing action. However these essential oils were not well studied about their antioxidant activity and antimicrobial activity against specific skin flora. In this study, we investigated antioxidant activity and antimicrobial activity of lemon and eucalyptus oils by using DPPH radical scavening activity and paper disc method. Lemon oil showed the high DPPH scavenging activity, while eucalyptus oil did not. Blending oils of lemon and eucalyptus had little enhancememt onantioxidant activity. Paper disc method demonstrated that each oil had a high antimicrobial effect against C. albicans and P. acnes in a concentration dependent manner. The blending oils had enhancememt on antimicrobial effect against P. acnes. In conclusion, the blending oil of lemon and eucalyptus can be used as a more effective natural agents for cure of skin trouble and acne.

  • Exposure to stress can lead to sympathetic hyperactivity, which include a systemic disease with lesions in a broad spectrum of organs and a psychiatric condition. The purpose aimed to evaluate the effect of the korea ginger essential oil on stress hormone and brain tissue response in chronic mild stress-induced rats model of sympathetic hyperactivity. Evaluation method carried out cytotoxicity assessment and component analysis, what observe the effects based on serum biomarker and histopathological analysis of brain tissue. As this time, the korea ginger essential oil was treatment at doses of 100 nl/㎖ for 2 weeks after make a chronic mild stress-induced rats model of sympathetic hyperactivity. As a result, the korea ginger essential oil was not toxic at less than 100 nl/㎖, contents of 6-gingerol was 345 ppm. Compared to the control rats, the korea ginger essential oil treatments significantly reduced the serum concentrations of stress hormone (i.e., ACTH, corticosterone, melatonin). Furthermore, The korea ginger essential oil treatments effectively preserved the TH-immune response was occasionally interrupted in the ventral tegmental area (VTA) and the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNpc). The results indicate that the korea ginger essential oil improved sympathetic hyperactivity. Thus, the korea ginger may be a novel material of aroma oils for the management of sympathetic hyperactivity.
