  • This study was conducted to identify the level of knowledge, perception, attitude, and preventive behavior toward particulate matter (PM) among university students, as well as to determine factors influencing their PM preventive behaviors. Questionnaires were distributed from December 9 to December 20, 2019, and the data from 180 valid responses were analyzed using SPSS Window 18.0. The scores for knowledge, perception, attitude, and preventive behavior against PM were 62.00 points, 72.33 points, 77.30 points, and 69.02 points, respectively, when converted to a 100-point scale. Regarding the factors influencing preventive behavior, only perception was significant among the assessed factors (p<.001). Therefore, it is suggested that efforts be made to promote preventive behavior related to PM. Furthermore, when developing a program to promote preventive behavior related to particulate matter exposure, it is necessary to consider strategies to improve perception of PM preventive behavior.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate how attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control affect nurses' pressure ulcer (PU) prevention behavior among general hospital nurses based on the theory of planned behavior. A total of 111 nurses in four general hospitals in Korea participated in this study and replied to a survey on attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control, and behavior regarding PU prevention. Data were analyzed with multiple regressions by all participants, education level, working department, and hospital size group. In all participants, the more positive attitude and the higher subjective norm, the more PU prevention behavior. However, in the group of 'more than bachelor degree' and 'tertiary hospital', the more clinical experience, the more behavior. In the group of 'surgical ward & intensive care unit', the higher attitude, the more behavior. In the group of 'more than bachelor degree', the higher subjective norm, the more behavior. Therefore, personalized and tailored intervention for nurses may be provided depending on nurses' education level, work department, and hospital size to enhance PU prevention behavior by means of improving nurses' attitude, subjective norm toward PU prevention.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify nursing students' knowledge, attitudes, and optimism bias about cancer, and the degree of national cancer prevention health behavior and to identify factors affecting cancer prevention behaviors. The data were collected from June 3 to June 28, 2020 for 241 nursing college students at J-C University. As a result of the study, nursing students' knowledge of cancer was 23.28±5.62 points, attitude was 40.33±8.15 points, optimistic bias was -.13±1.48 points, and national cancer prevention health behavior was 3.47±.59 points. National cancer prevention health behaviors of nursing students correlated with knowledge, attitudes, and optimistic biases on cancer. Among them, variables affecting cancer prevention health behaviors are attitudes toward cancer and optimism bias, which is 37.0 %. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a program to increase attitudes toward cancer and reduce optimism, and to practice cancer prevention health behaviors by reducing biases through positive attitudes and awareness of the importance of health behaviors through systematic and continuous education.

  • MERS outbreak in Korea was related to healthcare-associated infections. The number of healthcare workers infected with MERS were 39, of which 15 were nurses. We investigated knowledge, attitudes and preventive behaviors against MERS in nursing students who will serve as future nurses. This is a cross-sectional study using a questionnaire survey. Data were collected from 350 nursing students from April to May 2016. As a result, there was a statistically significant positive correlation between attitudes and prevention behaviors against MERS. (r=.387, p <.001). The effect of knowledge and attitudes on preventive behaviors against MERS was analyzed by 15.2% of the explanatory power of regression model and statistically significant by regression equation (F = 31.081, p <.001). This study suggests that nursing students need convergence educational programs to improve their attitudes and preventive behaviors against infectious diseases such as MERS.
