  • Objectives: This study aimed to identify the vaccination coverage for hepatitis B among aged 19 or older, and at the same time to determine the reasons for vaccination or non-vaccination. Methods: The survey was conducted through a Mixed-Mode Random Digit Dialing Survey (RDD) method. The survey included hepatitis B vaccination status, reasons of vaccination and non-vaccination, sources of information on vaccination, and other related factors. Results: The vaccination coverage for hepatitis B among adults 19 years of age and older were 38.0%, 32.5%, and 26.9% for the first, second, and third doses. A related factors with high rate of hepatitis B vaccination was women, younger than 65 years of age, rural residents, having a job, highly educated, health insurance subscribers, living with spouse, family members living together. In addition, the vaccination rate was higher in those who was aware of the states recommended adult vaccination, were explained by a doctor about the need for adult vaccination, kept their vaccination records, and recognized that it helped prevent infectious diseases, and had seen promotional materials. Conclusions: In the future, it is necessary to check the antibody retention rate along with the hepatitis B vaccination coverage of adults on a regular basis. In addition, in order to accurately and quickly identify the hepatitis B vaccination coverage, it is necessary to prepare a plan to improve the computerized registration rate to manage adult vaccination records.

  • Purpose To assess the reliability and accuracy of an automated Cobb angle measurement (ACAM) using a convolutional neural network (CNN) for scoliosis evaluation and to compare measurement times. Materials and Methods ACAM was applied to spine radiographs in 411 patients suspected of scoliosis. Observer 1 (consensus of two musculoskeletal radiologists) and observer 2 (a radiology resident) measured Cobb angle (CA). CA measurements were categorized using observer 1's measurements as the reference standard. Inter-observer reliability and correlation were assessed using intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Spearman's rank correlation coefficient, respectively. Accuracy and measurement time of ACAM and observers were evaluated. Results ACAM demonstrated excellent reliability and very high correlation with observer 1 (ICC = 0.976, Spearman's rank correlation = 0.948), with a mean CA difference of 1.1. Overall accuracy was high (88.2%), particularly in mild (92.2%) and moderate (96%) scoliosis. Accuracy was lower in spinal asymmetry (77.1%) and higher in severe scoliosis (95%), although the CA was lower compared to the observers. ACAM significantly reduced measurement time by nearly half compared to the observers (p < 0.001). Conclusion ACAM using CNN enhances CA measurement for assessing mild or moderate scoliosis, despite limitations in spinal asymmetry or severe scoliosis. Nonetheless, it substantially decreases measurement time.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between stress and halitosis in a representative sample of Korean adolescents. Methods: This study was based on the 15th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Survey (2019). The final participation rate in the survey was 95.3%; 57,303 out of 60,100 (95.3%) adolescents aged 13-18 years were selected. Multiple logistic regression with complex samples was performed to identify the correlation between stress and halitosis. Stress level was classified as 'very much', 'a little', and 'not much' and halitosis was defined as the presence of an unpleasant odor in the oral cavity. Results: The prevalence of halitosis among students was 21.3%. As a result of multiple regression analysis, the 'a little' [odds ratio (OR); 1.39, 95% confidence interval (CI); 1.29-1.49] and 'very much' stress group (OR; 1.78, 95% CI; 1.66-1.90) exhibited significantly higher risk of halitosis than the 'not much' stress group. Conclusions: A significant correlation between stress and halitosis exists among Korean adolescents. Therefore, psychological factors such as stress should be considered in managing halitosis in adolescents.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between sleep quality and periodontal disease-related symptoms among Korean adolescents. Methods: This cross-sectional study was based on the 16th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-Based Survey (2020). A complex sample logistic regression was performed to identify the relationship between sleep quality and periodontal disease-related symptoms after adjusting for all covariates. Results: In model II, to estimate the adjusted odds ratio (AOR) for all covariates, students who answered "not at all sufficient", indicating sleep quality, were at higher risk of experiencing periodontal disease-related symptoms than those who answered "completely sufficient" (AOR=1.58). As a result of subgroup analysis, for estimating the AOR adjusted for all covariates in boys, students who answered "not at all sufficient", indicating sleep quality, were at a higher risk of experiencing periodontal disease-related symptoms than those who answered "completely sufficient" (AOR=1.68). In girls, students who answered "not at all sufficient", indicating sleep quality, were at a higher risk of experiencing periodontal disease-related symptoms than those who answered "completely sufficient" (AOR=1.43). Conclusions: It is necessary to formulate health policies that can promote optimal sleeping habits and oral health behaviors among Korean adolescents.

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the association between depression, anxiety, and COVID-19 with regard to dental hygienists. Methods: A questionnaire survey on depression and anxiety was conducted on 189 dental hygienists from dental hospitals and clinics in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk area. Results: The overall prevalence of depression was 69.8% and that of anxiety was 53.4%. The aspect of depression was heavily influenced by past experience with COVID-19 related quarantine and contact with a confirmed patient. The prolonged pandemic was observed to have exerted a greater impact on depression and anxiety (p<0.05). Conclusions: Depression and anxiety seem to be related to COVID-19 related factors among dental hygienists. Dental hospitals and clinics should monitor the level of depression and anxiety of dental hygienists who are at an elevated risk of COVID-19.
