According to international regulations, it is mandatory for navigators or engineers to acquire suitable skillsets before their designation as a duty officer on board. One of the most important elements is Maritime English (ME), wherein students are taught a required set of basic skills that enable them to process various documents related to accidents, ship conditions, and inspections. Students have to be equipped not only with the use of general English skills but also with the coherent use of technical terms and phrases. However, due to the unique circumstances that exist in the maritime domain, the methods used for imparting maritime knowledge and the manner in which it is evaluated are restricted. Hence, this study aims to utilize an online Maritime English learning and testing platform that can be accessed on smart devices to analyze its impact on the students' learning process. An experiment was conducted on two groups of cadets, one that used the platform and another group that did not. After six-week, the experiment results showed a significant difference between the ME test scores of the two groups. The test scores were further analyzed by incorporating the students' personal elements to measure the ef icacy of the ME test platform. Therefore, the learning and evaluation processes are expected to be implemented in ways that are appropriate and convenient to specific circumstances and be widely used in the field of maritime education in the future.

The International Convention on Standards for Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping of Seafarers (STCW) outlines the qualifications that maritime cadets must meet in order to serve as merchant marine officers. Maritime English is one of the most essential qualifications for STCW, and each national authority is implementing Maritime English education that complies with national and international regulations. In this study, an English proficiency background survey was conducted to investigate the factors related to the Maritime English skills and competencies. In line with this, maritime cadets utilized the Standard Maritime English Communication Phrases (SMCP) learning platform to track their learning progress and its efficacy. This study examined the applicability of the automatic scoring platform for Maritime English education, as well as its future potential for widespread use in the maritime education field.

Maritime English is a specialized language system designed for ship operations, maritime safety, and external and internal communication onboard. According to the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), it is imperative that navigational officers engaged in international voyages have a thorough understanding of Maritime English including the use of Standard Marine Communication Phrases (SMCP). This study measured students' proficiency in Maritime English using a learning and testing platform that includes voice recognition, translation, and word entry tasks to evaluate the resulting improvement in Maritime English exam scores. Furthermore, the study aimed to investigate the level of platform use needed for cadets to qualify as junior navigators. The experiment began by examining the correlation between students' overall English skills and their proficiency in SMCP through an initial test, followed by the evaluation of improvements in their scores and changes in exam duration during the mid-term and final exams. The initial test revealed a significant dif erence in Maritime English test scores among groups based on individual factors, such as TOEIC scores and self-assessment of English ability, and both the mid-term and final tests confirmed substantial score improvements for the group using the platform. This study confirmed the efficacy of a learning platform that could be extensively applied in maritime education and potentially expanded beyond the scope of Maritime English education in the future.

본 논문은 외국어 학습을 위한 딥러닝 기반 영어 교육 플랫폼인 PEEP-Talk (Personalized English Education Platform)을 제안한다. PEEP-Talk는 딥러닝 기반 페르소나 대화 시스템과 영어 문법 교정 피드백 기능이 내장된 교육용 플랫폼이다. 또한 기존 페르소나 대화시스템과 다르게 대화의 흐름이 벗어날 시 이를 자동으로 판단하여 대화 주제를 실시간으로 변경할 수 있는 CD (Context Detector) 모듈을 제안하며 이를 적용하여 실제 사람과 대화하는 듯한 느낌을 사용자에게 줄 수 있다. 본 논문은 PEEP-Talk의 각 모듈에 대한 정량적인 분석과 더불어 CD 모듈을 객관적으로 판단할 수 있는 새로운 성능 평가지표인 CDM (Context Detector Metric)을 기반으로 PEEP-Talk의 강건함을 검증하였다. 이와 더불어 PEEP-Talk를 카카오톡 채널을 이용하여 배포하였다.

The education applications for English learning have been developing consistently by utilizing the smart-phone owing to the development of internet and ICT. Smart technology based study platform, the mobile learning which enables for the students to study beyond the time and space is expected to bring forth new paradigm of education in tune with the environment change and trends. But it is found that the current applications are mostly the contents patterned for English study institution information with single channel or made for thinking study concept with only the simple language learning once they were checked. Therefore, the understanding on the English study process shall be changed and the study on the platform service is required by accessing in the viewpoint of thinking exercise learning. This study is purposed to explore the scope and strategy of mobile learning UX platform development and suggest the service model via prototype for English study.

The college English teaching-learning model in this study is intended to effectively apply dictogloss activities to enhance competencies such as communication, self-directedness, and cooperation by upgrading the utilization of various online platform functions. Dictogloss is a language teaching and learning activity that combines four functions (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) of communication. College English classes in this study focus on communication-oriented integrated English education. In this study, the teaching and learning is an online-based English integrated teaching-learning method based on constructivism theory. The model presented the roles of learners and teachers according to the seven procedures.

본 논문에서는 영어 교육에 대한 사회적인 인식은 중요해지면서 다양한 방식의 영어공부와 학습모델들을 분석하고 오랫동안 가억이 가능한 학습시스템을 검토하였다. 그러나 영어의 기초가 되는 영어 단어의 공부법이 논리적인 근거 없이 강사의 인지도와 명성에 현혹되어 강사가 추천해 주는 공부 방법에 따라 잘못된 학습하는 경우가 대부분이다. 또한 사람마다 자기에게 맞는 학습법은 분명 존재할 것이다. 하지만 그 방법 외에 효과적인 다른 방법 또한 찾아 볼 수 있다. 헤르만 에빙하우스는 사람의 망각 연구한 결과 망각의 주기를 수치로 나타내었고, 라이트너는 플래시 카드를 박스에 넣어 복습을 반복하는 아날로그 장치를 만들어 복습의 효과를 연구하였다. 본 논문에서는 헤르만 에빙하우스의 망각 곡선 이론을 통해 효율적인 영어 단어 학습방법을 논리적으로 증명하고, 웹사이트를 사용한 라이트너 박스와 망각 곡선의 이론을 적용하여 망각의 주기에 따른 복습의 효과를 적용하여 결과적으로 사용자에게 접근성이 좋은 학습형 플랫폼을 제공하여 시간 대비 학습률이 좋은 시스템을 개발하고자 하였다.

컨텐츠에 대한 처리 기술과 사용자 인터페이스의 발전으로 인해, 교육 현장에서 광범위하게 사용되는 교육도구로 컴퓨터가 자리매김하고 있다. 제한된 교실 환경에서 컴퓨터를 활용한 영어교육은 학습자들에게 흥미를 유발하고, 의사소통능력의 신장을 유도하는 등의 장점이 있으나, 수준에 따른 개별학습과 상호작용 유도, 개인차를 고려한 평가 등을 수행하기 어려운 문제점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 장점을 극대화하고 단점을 좌완하기 위해서 휴대폰의 국내 표준 플랫폼인 WIPI(Wireless Internet Platform for Interoperability)기반 영어 학습 시스템을 제안한다. 제안하는 시스템은 휴대 전화의 제한성을 극복하고, 이에 적합한 컨텐츠를 활용하면서, 교사의 역할을 대신해 줄 수 있는 지능형 교육 시스템을 도입하여 교사의 역할을 대신하여 피드백을 제공해 줄 수 있으며, 교사와 학생간의 상호작용을 유도하여 학습의 효과를 극대화 할 수 있을 것이다.

본 발표는 대한민국 해기사 커뮤니케이션 역량 강화를 위해, 해사 영어 구술시험 개발의 필요성을 타국의 사례 등을 통해 제안하고, 이를 위해 시범 개발 중인 "한국형 해사 영어 구술시험"의 개발 제작 과정과 현재 개발 진행 사항을 공유하고, 향후 추진 방향을 모색하기 위함이다. 따라서 본 발표에서는, 구술시험 평가 수립을 위한 유관 산업 문헌 조사(국제 교통 관련 산업 의사소통 지침, 평가 척도), 해기사 직무에 따른 영어 구술시험 문제 개발 계획 수립 및 시험 설계 시 검토 사항, 모의 구술시험 설계 및 시행, 모의시험 효과 측정, 측정 결과에 따른 향후 평가 척도 개발 시 고려 사항, 구술 평가를 인공지능 평가 방법 도입 방안 모색 등의 과정을 순차적으로 소개하고, 이에 대한 결과물을 공유하며, 향후 발전 방향을 제안하고자 한다.
