영어 교육 시장이 증대되면서 영어 학습을 효과적으로 지원하는 다양한 학습 시스템들이 개발되고 있다. 영어문장을 구성하는 기본적인 단위는 어휘로 문장 전체의 의미를 파악하기 위해서는 어휘의 의미를 이해하는 것이 필수적이다. 따라서 영어 어휘 능력 향상을 위한 다양한 영어 어휘 학습 시스템들이 개발되고 있으나, 어휘가 사용되는 문맥을 고려하거나 동시에 학습하면 효과적인 어휘 등 어휘 학습에 효과적인 교수학습 방법의 원리가 적용된 영어 어휘 학습 시스템에 대한 연구는 미비한 상황이다. 본 논문에서는 n 개의 영어 단어가 하나의 그룹으로 동시에 제시되면서 그 n개의 영어 단어가 모두 포함된 예문을 제공하는 지능형 영어 어휘 학습 시스템을 설계한다. 임의로 n 개의 영어 어휘가 주어졌을 경우 문맥에 맞게 영어 예문을 자동으로 생성하는 지능형 영어 문장 생성 모델이 본 연구의 핵심이다. 또한, 어휘 능력 평가에서 기존 어휘 학습 시스템과 같이 단순히 어휘를 얼마나 암기하고 있는지에 대한 평과 결과만을 제시하는 것이 아니라, 그룹별 취약 어휘 분석을 통해 효과적인 그룹 어휘 선택 규칙을 파악할 수 있는 기반을 마련하고자 한다. 본 논문에서 제안한 지능형 영어 어휘 학습 시스템을 통해 영어 어휘 학습자들의 학습 능력 향상에 도움이 될 것으로 기대한다.

영어 교육 시장 확대로 다양한 영어 학습 시스템이 개발되고 있다. 그러나 어휘의 문맥적 이해와 효과적인 학습 방법을 결합한 지능형 어휘 학습 시스템에 대한 연구는 미비하다. 본 연구에서는 임의의 n 개 영어 단어가 한 그룹으로 제시되고, 이들을 모두 포함한 예문을 제공하는 지능형 영어 어휘 학습 시스템을 개발한다. 본 연구에서는 임의의 n 개 영어 단어가 주어졌을 때 문맥에 맞는 영어 예문을 자동으로 생성하는 모델을 개발하였다. 어휘 평가를 바탕으로 자동으로 취약 어휘를 선정하며 학습자들이 해당 어휘를 학습 할 수 있도록 진행한다. 본 연구에서 개발한 지능형 영어 어휘 학습 시스템의 사용성 평가를 위해 설문 검사를 실시하였다. 설문 결과는 문맥 및 어휘 그룹 기반의 지능형 영어 학습 시스템은 사용자들이 사용하기 편리하고 어휘 능력을 향상시키는데 도움이 될 수 있음을 보여준다.

The purpose of the present study was to suggest basic word lists and contents of English for mobile games and to propose how to apply basic word lists to mobile games for English vocabulary learning because it is possible that some potential advantages of mobile games can provide elementary school students with new learning environment for English vocabulary learning. To support this idea, firstly, the basic word lists were selected from essential word lists in the national English curriculum, the word lists from textbooks, and five randomly chosen word books. Secondly, mobile games were examined and appropriate mobile games for learning English words was selected. Lastly, the basic word lists for mobile games were applied to the selected game.

영어 공인 시험에서 영어 어휘는 가장 중요한 요소 중 하나이다. 그러나 기존 영어 어휘 학습 시스템은 단순히 어휘 교재의 콘텐츠를 디지털화한 것에 그치고 있다. 영어 어휘 학습에서 동의어에 대한 학습은 언어 능력을 향상시키고 다양한 상황에서 효과적으로 의사소통할 수 있는 능력 향상에 도움이 된다. 본 연구에서는 학습자들이 영어 어휘 학습을 효과적으로 할 수 있도록 동의어 및 반의어를 활용할 수 있는 학습 시스템을 제안한다. 본 시스템은 동의어와 반의어에 대한 정보가 필요한 영어 어휘를 입력으로 받아 생성형 AI에서 동의어 및 반의어에 대한 정보를 생성한 후에 반환하는 기능을 수행한다. 본 시스템은 학습자들이 어휘 평가에서 오답으로 답한 어휘에 대해 동의어 및 반의어에 대한 추가적인 어휘와 예문을 제공하여 영어 어휘 학습의 효율성을 높일 수 있을 것이다.

This paper aims to explore the vocabulary difference between South and North Korean English textbooks as a first step toward a unified vocabulary list. To this end, both South and North Korean English textbooks in 2000s and 2010s are digitized into a corpus of text files, and a vocabulary list is constructed based on the corpus with reference to its concordances for the vocabulary use and contexts using AntConc 3.5.7. The vocabulary list of North Korean English textbooks are compared and found in their differences of quantity and quality of the English vocabulary in English education. Both quantitative and qualitative differences are found in between South and North Korean English textbook corpus. Both South and North aim that students learn about 3,000 words throughout the English education. North Korean English textbook contains more special academic vocabulary while South Korean English textbook is constrained by a strict vocabulary control which does not allow such a flexibility. Differences of vocabulary and their use are caused by the capitalistic market economy of South and the socialists' planned economy of North. Differences are also attributed to the religious words and grammatical vocabulary appearance.

As vocabulary acquisition has become one of the emerging key issues in the foreign language education field, interest in vocabulary learning strategies (VLS) has also increased. However, little has been done to investigate the vocabulary learning strategies of young learners. Therefore, this study attempts to investigate VLS use in elementary school English language textbooks. A total of three fifth grade English textbooks and teachers' guidebooks were chosen and analyzed with the vocabulary learning strategies taxonomy suggested by Scbmitt (1997). The researcher identified there were only a limited number of vocabulary learning strategies in the textbooks and most of them were consolidation strategies. It was concluded that a variety of VLS should be introduced in multiple ways in consideration of learner preference, styles, culture and level of English proficiency. Some implications for the teaching and learning of vocabulary for EFL instruction amongst young learners are discussed.

시각적으로 제시된 영어 단어 재인시에 주로 단어빈도와 단어길이가 영향을 준다고 알려져 있다. 그러나, 단어빈도와 관련된 연구는 체계적으로 이루어져 왔지만 단어길이와 관련된 연구는 체계적으로 이루어지지 않은 편이다. 또한, 단어빈도와 단이길이에 따라 단어가 성 어휘집(mental lexicon)에 어떻게 표상되어 있으며, 상호간에 어떠한 관계가 있는 것인지에 대해서는 아직 구체적으로 알려져 있지 않다. 본 연구의 목적은 첫째, 단어길이와 빈도가 시각적으로 제시된 영어단어 어휘접근에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보아 단어길이효과가 어휘접근단계에서 영향을 미치는지 알아보고자 하며 둘째, 단어길이와 빈도가 미국인과 한국인의 어휘접근시 어떤 차이를 보이는지 알아보아 한국인과 미국인의 영어단어 정보처리의 차이를 살펴보고자 하는 것이다. 단어 명명과제와 어휘판단과제를 사용한 실험결과 한국인과 미국인에게 모두 단어 길이와 빈도가 어휘접근에 영향을 주었다. 그러나, 한국인의 경우는 상대적으로 어휘판단과제에서 보다는 단어명명과제에서 어려움을 겪는다는 결과를 보여주었다. 이와 같은 결과를 볼 때 한국인이 영어단어 어휘에 접근할 때에도 미국인과 유사한 방식으로 처리를 하는 것으로 보인다. 그러나, 한국인의 경우는 미국인보다 조음과정에 상대적으로 더 어려움을 느끼는 것으로 보이며, 이것은 영어교육시 단순한 어휘암기보다 음운부호를 산출하고 단어를 말하는 능력을 향상시키는 방법을 좀 더 강조해야 한다는 것을 시사한다.

본 연구는 영어 단어 재인 과정에서 나타나는 한국인의 어휘 수준과 의미 수준 양상을 알아보기 위해 실시되었다 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 세 종류의 실험을 시행하였는데, 첫 번째 실험에서는 한국어 처리 기제와 영어 처리 기제의 독립 여부를 알아보기 위하여 한국어로는 여러 의미를 갖지만 영어로는 한 가지 의미만을 가지는 영어단어를 점화 자극으로 하고, 한국어와는 관련된 의미를 갖지만 영어와는 무관련한 한국어 단어를 목표 자극으로 사용하여(예, bridge-팔)언어간 의미 점화 어휘판단 과제를 시행하였다. 두 번째 실험에서는 비교적 개념 구조가 한국어와 영어에서 유사하다고 생각되어지는 외래어를 자극으로 사용하여 언어간(예, elevator-승강기), 언어 내(예, 엘리베이터-승강기) 어휘판단과제를 실시하였다. 연구 결과 첫 번째 실험에서는 유의미한 점화효과가 나타나지 않았고, 두 번째 실험에서는 언어간에는 SOA에 따라서 결과가 달랐고, 언어 내에는 촉진적 점화효과가 나타났다 이러한 결과는 영어의 일반 어휘에 대한 의미 표상 체계는 독립적으로 존재하였고, 외래어와 같이 특수한 어휘에 대해서는 다른 표상 체계를 갖고 있는 것으로 나타났다

The current study investigates whether artificially intelligent chatbots influence Korean EFL students' vocabulary learning. For eight weeks, 47 college students in Korea participated in this study. They were divided into two groups: one experimental group and one control group. Participants in the experimental group engaged in chat with a chatbot during the eight-week experimental period. Before and after the experiment, pre- and post-tests were administered to see if their English vocabulary improved. Pre- and post- surveys were also performed to understand how the participants perceived chatbot-assisted vocabulary learning. Results show that the experimental group improved their vocabulary skills as a result of engaging in chat with the chatbot. Also, their perceptions of vocabulary learning positively changed, increasing their motivation, interest, and confidence in English. Given that there have been few empirical studies to investigate the effects of chatbots on vocabulary development, the present study can provide insights on the effectiveness of chatbots.

본 실험에서는 단어회상이 영어어휘 학습에 미치는 영향을 살펴보기 위해 160개 단어 쌍에 대해 어휘학습을 실시하였다. 세 종류의 어휘 학습 방법(교대학습, 반복검사, 반복학습)을 채택하여 학습을 실시하였으며 학습 1주일 후 160개 단어 쌍에 대해 지연회상검사를 실행하였다. 그 결과 세 종류의 어휘 학습 방법 중 단어회상을 강조한 두 개의 어휘 학습 방법에서 그렇지 않은 조건에 비해 유의미하게 좋은 지연회상률을 보였다. 또한 실험 참가자를 대상으로 선호하는 학습 방법에 대해 설문조사를 실시한 결과 63.5%의 설문 응답자가 한 번 학습한 것에 대해 스스로 시행하는 회상 검사를 선호하였다. 그러나 자가검증을 통한 회상 검사 자체가 효과적인 학습 방법이라고는 생각하지 않는 것으로 나타났다.
