An Efficient Multi-Dimensional Index Structure for Large Data Set (대용량 데이터를 위한 효율적인 다차원 색인구조)

  • In this paper, We propose a multi-dimensional index structure, called a VA (vector approximate) -tree that constructs a tree with vector approximates of multi-dimensional feature vectors. To save storage space for index structures, the VA-tree employs vector approximation concepts of VA-file that presents feature vectors with much smaller number of bits than original value. Since the VA-tree is a tree structure, it does not suffer from performance degradation owing to the increase of data. Also, even though the VA-tree is MBR Minimum Bounding Region) based tree structure like a R-tree, its split algorithm never allows overlap between MBRs. We show through various experiments that our proposed VA-tree is the efficient index structure for large amount of multi-dimensional data.

Design of Optimized pRBFNNs-based Night Vision Face Recognition System Using PCA Algorithm (PCA알고리즘을 이용한 최적 pRBFNNs 기반 나이트비전 얼굴인식 시스템 설계)

  • In this study, we propose the design of optimized pRBFNNs-based night vision face recognition system using PCA algorithm. It is difficalt to obtain images using CCD camera due to low brightness under surround condition without lighting. The quality of the images distorted by low illuminance is improved by using night vision camera and histogram equalization. Ada-Boost algorithm also is used for the detection of face image between face and non-face image area. The dimension of the obtained image data is reduced to low dimension using PCA method. Also we introduce the pRBFNNs as recognition module. The proposed pRBFNNs consists of three functional modules such as the condition part, the conclusion part, and the inference part. In the condition part of fuzzy rules, input space is partitioned by using Fuzzy C-Means clustering. In the conclusion part of rules, the connection weights of pRBFNNs is represented as three kinds of polynomials such as linear, quadratic, and modified quadratic. The essential design parameters of the networks are optimized by means of Differential Evolution.

  • This paper is to introduce the a system which monitors and detects the object position in reinforced the concrete structure using UWB-RF. This system is able to check any changes in the inside of the concrete structure using its penetration and reflection characteristics and it can also numerically measure the position of rebar in the concrete structure. For the verification of the performance of this system, we set up the internal compositions of concrete in 3 different types of test-bed. On the other hand, for the measuring of the location of rebar, which varies depending on the type of structure, the software which shows the distance in the structure were used. The result shows that the position in the concrete could be measured within the tolerance of ${\pm}1{\sim}4mm$ depending on the type of structure in the concrete.

  • 물체 추적시스템은 비디오 감시 시스템, 화상회의 시스템과 같은 다양한 비전 응용 분야에서 점점 비중이 높아지고 있다. 이 시스템에서 가장 널리 사용되고 있는 방법 중 하나로 Particle-Filter를 들 수 있다. 하지만, 이 Particle-Filter의 단점은 유사한 여러 물체를 추적할 때에 그 물체들이 겹치거나 사라질 경우 정확한 추적을 하기 어렵다는 것이다. 이 단점을 극복하기 위해 많은 연구가 진행되고 있으며, 본 논문에서는 이 문제를 극복하기 위한 새로운 방법을 제안하고자 한다. 다중 물체 추적에서 빈번히 일어나는 문제는 두 가지로 요약할 수 있는데, 동일한 다중 물체가 부분적으로 엇갈리거나 다른 객체에 완전히 겹친 후 떨어질 때 한 물체를 중복하여 추적하는 문제(merge and split problem)와 이 때 분리되어 추적은 됐지만, 물체를 혼동하여 추적하는 문제(Labeling problem)이다. 본 논문에서는 이 러한 문제들을 풀기 위해 이미지 필드에서 보다 정확한 확률분포를 만들고, 이 확률분포의 신뢰성을 높이기 위해서 물체의 특징정보를 표현하는 몇 가지 방법을 제안한다. 전자의 문제는 두 가지 문제로 나누어 생각해 보았다. 첫째, 복잡환 환경에서의 분포를 찾아내는 것과 둘째, 추적 중인 물체를 잃어버릴 경우 새로운 샘플을 생성함으로써 나누어 보았다. 이 문제 중 첫번째는 K-means 클러스터링을 이용하여 유사한 물체가 주변에 퍼져 있을 때, 하나의 후보 위치가 아닌, K개의 후보 위치들을 만들어 내어 보다 정확한 추적이 가능하게 하였으며, 두 번째 문제는 추적 중인 물체가 다른 커다란 물체에 가려질 경우이다. 이 상황에서 샘플을 생성하는 방법은 지금까지 해왔던 간단한 환경에서의 생성 범위와는 다르게 넓게 해야 생성시켜야 한다. 이 때 샘플링의 수를 늘리지 않으면서, 최대한 정확하게 추적하기 위해서 동영상에서 물체의 모션을 이용한 모션 히스토그램을 얻어내고, 그 정보를 이용하여 샘플을 생성하는 위치를 조절함으로써 이 문제를 풀어 보았다. 그리고, 후자의 문제인 이미지 필드상에서 확률분포의 신뢰성을 높이기 위한 특징 정보는 기존에 많이 사용하던 칼라 히스토그램에 공간정보의 의미를 부여하는 칼라 히스토그램을 분할하는 방법과 SIFT에서 사용하는 방향정보와 크기정보를 사용했다. 이것들을 사용하여 보다 정확한 물체추적시스템을 다음과 같이 제안한다.

  • Computer vision research area, a division of computer graphics application area that creates realistic visualization in computer, conducts vigorously researches on developing realistic 3D model or virtual environment. As the popularization and development of 3D display makes common users easy to experience a solid 3D virtual reality, the demand for virtual reality contents are increasing. This paper proposes 3D panorama system using depth point location-based depth map generation method. 3D panorama using depth map gives an effect that makes users feel staying at real place and looking around nearby circumstances. Also, 3D panorama gives free sight point for both nearby object and remote one and provides solid 3D video.

  • In the existing curriculum of the Elementary Computer Education, it is hard to improve the CPS(Creative Problem Solving) skill and logical thought since the 7th national curriculum emphasizes application programs and CAI softwares. To complement this drawback, it is required to teach the principal of the computer science but there is not many researches for what problems of teaching computer science exist and what the response of students are. Thus, we carried out a research to know whether the students of elementary school can understand principal of computer science in the field of subject matter education. We found that the students can learn the principle of Saving Bitmap Image if the class level is adjusted properly.

  • In this paper, in order to help one to write contents for education in such a way to increase effectiveness, we implement SMIL editor, which helps anyone to author contents for education and multimedia text in an easy way based on multimeda language SMIL. Thanks to its interface which utilizes WYSIWYGT, this editor allows teachers or other users who do not know SMIL to write contents for education and multimedia text in an easy way and to check in a real time how a partially completed document work and to revise when it is not satisfactory. It also allows one to write contents with explanations to help learning because usable multimedia objects can be inserted. This editor helps the user to reduce his inconvenience that he has in memorizing SMIL tags and to reduce his time and offers in writing the documents.

  • Recently various electronic books (I-Book) based on PDA (personal digital assistance) that we can easily use anytime and anywhere have been developed. Volume and weight of the E-Book is much less than that of traditional books. In that reason, it is easy to carry and serve us with contents by diverse functions such as searching, bookmark, dictionary, and playing of color image, sound or moving picture. On account of these advantages, many products connected with I-Book have been emerged in the market. However a product connected with educational contents is scarce, because it requires not only normal function but also additional functions such as a problem solving. Therefore it is actually necessary to develop a browser and an editor for educational contents. In this paper, we express educational contents by XML and define structure of document with XML schema. Then, we design and implement an editor and a browser that can manage educational contents on PDA.

  • Emotional expression is universal and emotional state impacts important areas in our life. Until now, analyzing the acquired EEG signals under circumstances caused by invoked feelings and efforts to define their emotional state have been made mainly by psychologists based on the results. But, recently emotion-related information was released by research results that it is possible to identify mental activity through measuring and analyzing the brain EEG signals. So, this study has compared and analyzed emotional expressions of human by using brain waves. To get EEG difference for a particular emotion, we showed specific subject images to the people for changing emotions that peace, joy, sadness and stress, etc. After measured EEG signals were converged into frequence domain by FFT signal process, we have showed EEG changes in emotion as a result of the performance analyzing each respective power spectrum of delta, theta, alpha, beta and gamma waves.

  • In this paper, the 3-D shape description for the objects with the cone ridge and valley surfaces, and the corresponding threshold value selection for surface classification are considered. The existing method based on the mean and Gaussian curvatures(H and K) of differential geometries cannot properly describe cone primitives, which are some of the most common objects in the real world. Also the existing method for surface classification based on the sign values of H and K has Problems in practical applications. For this, cone surface shapes are classified cone ridges and cone valleys are derived from surfaces using the fact that H values are constant case of cylinder surfaces and variable for cone surfaces, respectively. Also threshold value selection for surface classification from a statistical point of view is proposed. The effectiveness of the proposed methods are verified through experiments.
