A case of Dyke-Davidoff-Masson syndrome in Korea (국소적 경련과 편마비를 동반한 Dyke-Davidoff-Masson 증후군 1례)

  • Dyke-Davidoff-Masson Syndrome (DDMS) is a rare condition characterized by asymmetry of cerebral hemispheric growth with atrophy on one side, ipsilateral compensatory osseous hypertrophy, and contralateral hemiparesis. We experienced a 17 month-old male who presented with left focal clonic or tonic-clonic seizures accompanied by left hemiparesis and developmental delay. Brain MRIs demonstrated progressive atrophy of the right cerebral hemisphere with dilatation of the lateral ventricle, expansion of the ipsilateral frontal sinus with calvarial thickening, and elevation of the petrous pyramid and orbital roof. Brain SPECT showed a decreased volume of the right hemisphere with reduced blood flow. We therefore report a case of DDMS with a review of the literature.

Quantitative evaluation of MRI distortion using orthopedic prosthetic metal (정형보철용 금속을 이용한 자기공명영상왜곡의 정량적 평가)

  • Despite the many advantages of magnetic resonance imaging in orthopedic prosthetic body image distortion to the differences in the magnetic susceptibility occurs. Attached to the phantom and pork produced by the same $65{\times}15{\times}2mm$ stainless steel and titanium specimen examined the relationship between magnetic resonance imaging and phantom images, the signal intensity changes of the subcutaneous tissue, fat-suppressed quantitative assessment of the degree through the length of image distortion and pig bones. Stainless steel to titanium to 2.8 times 4.4 times in the longitudinal direction than in the direction of the height of large image distortion, signal strength is relatively low 58.5%. Normal 56.2% compared to the subcutaneous tissue, fat-suppressed, were stainless steel 16.04%, 54.53% titanium. Experimental results than the diagnostic value of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images of stainless steel with a titanium metal if better could see.

Resolution Enhancement of Scanning Laser Acoustic Microscope Using Transverse Wave (횡파를 이용한 SLAM의 분해능 개선)

  • We studied the resolution enhancement of a novel scanning laser acoustic microscope (SLAM) using transverse waves. Mode conversion of the ultrasonic wave takes place at the liquid-solid interface and some energy of the insonifying longitudinal waves in the water will convert to transverse wave energy within the solid specimen. The resolution of SLAM depends on the size of detecting laser spot and the wavelength of the insonifying ultrasonic waves. Science the wavelength of the transverse wave is shorter than that of the longitudinal wave, we are able to achieve the high resolution by using transverse waves. In order to operate SLAM in the transverse wave mode, we made wedge for changing the incident angle. Our experimental results with model 2140 SLAM and an aluminum specimen showed higher contrast of the SLAM image in the transverse wave mode than that in the longitudinal wave mode.

Automated Inspection System for Brake Shoe of Rolling Stock (철도차량용 제륜자의 자동 검사 시스템)

  • In this paper, we have proposed an automated system that accurately measures the thickness and unbalanced wear of brake shoes, and the distance between brake shoes and wheels for travelling rolling stock. The images of brake shoes are captured automatically while rolling stock is passing by an inspection station. And in order to measure the thickness, etc. the locations of brake shoes are first determined because the locations are not the same in the captured image. Toward this goal, shadow regions between the brake shoes and wheels are utilized that are common in all captured images. The boundary of the shadow regions is modeled by an second order polynomial, and constrained curve fitting method is adopted to detect a curve (the initial curve) that passes through the regions. Then, three curves that correspond to the front, back of brake shoes and wheels, and a line that passes through the vertical surface of brake shoes are detected using the initial curve and intensity change information. Finally, the thickness, etc. are calculated using the detected curves and line, and experimental results showed that the brake shoe thickness was measured with an accuracy of 0.654mm.

Analysis of Stress Distribution of a Curved Beam Using Photoelasticity (광탄성법을 이용한 곡선보 평판의 응력분포 해석)

  • This paper describes the stress analysis of a curved beam by using photoelasticity. In order to measure accurate isochromatic fringe orders at certain locations. fringes are doubled and sharpened by digital image processing. After fringe multiplication and sharpening. fringe orders can be read as a quarter order interval (N=0, 1/4, 2/4, 3/4,...). The results obtained from photoelastic experiment are compared with those calculated by using theory. Two results are agreed well even though there are some scatter bands with maximum 8 percent for the results of photoelastic measurements and theoretical calculation. Difference may be occurred due to the slight misalignment of the direction to which axial load is applied in photoelastic experiment. It is confirmed that accurate measurement of stress distribution can be possible by using the techniques of fringe multiplication and sharpening in photoelasticity.

  • The extent of renal biopsy indication is being widened because of the increasing incidence of incidental renal masses; the increasing treatment options for renal cell carcinoma, including ablation therapy and novel targeted treatment; and the increasing incidence of kidney transplantation. However, percutaneous renal biopsy is technically difficult, particularly for beginners, because the skin-to-organ distance is relatively longer than those associated with other organs. In the present review, we will discuss the indications, technical considerations, efficacy, and complications of renal biopsy. Furthermore, we share practical tips of renal biopsy through many examples to help radiologists perform renal biopsy safely and effectively in various situations.

Image Restoration Using Partial Differential Equation (편미분 방정식을 이용한 이미지 복원)

  • This paper is concerned with simulation issues arising in the PDE-based image restoration such as the total variation minimization(TVM) and its generalizations. In particular, we study the issues of staircasing and excessive dissipation of TVM-like smoothing operators. A strategy of scaling the algebraic system and a non-convex minimization are considered respectively for anti-staircasing and anti-diffusion. Furthermore, we introduce a variable constraint parameter to better preserve image edges. The resulting algorithm has been numerically verified to be efficient and reliable in denoising. Various numerical results are shown to confirm the claim.

Quantitative Analysis about Visual Image Expression of Documentary Interview (다큐멘터리 인터뷰 영상표현의 정량적 분석)

  • Visual images are very close to our living and we make decisions and choose behavioral options with the visual images on mass media. In current-affair documentary programs, interviews have potential effects that can change public opinions on important issues. Therefore, it's a consequence that the study examined how different expressions of visual images in documentary. Using preceding research methods, this study focus on form, color, movement and depth of visual images. This study analyzed quantitatively all interview shots with 15 current-affair documentary programs from major TV stations such as KBS, MBC and SBS. The findings of the study are 1) half of interview shots used the visual image expressions to hide interviewees' face according to the shield law, 2) choosing close-up shots in company with bust shots, 3) using natural lights and hand-held camera techniques for interviews, and 4) showing wide angles without depths of visual image.

  • Nuclear portein in testis (NUT) midline carcinoma is a very rare and low-differentiating malignant epithelial tumor that differentiates very aggressively and has poor prognosis. NUT midline carcinoma occurring in the lungs in particular can be confused with other cancers because few cases have been reported in Korea to date and can show various histological forms. Reports of radiology findings are very rare worldwide. Here we report the imaging findings of pulmonary NUT midline carcinoma in a 25-year-old female along with pathological findings.
