A Design of Participative Problem Based Learning (PBL) Class in Metaverse (메타버스에서의 참여형 PBL 수업 설계)

  • Recently, as per a representative education method to develop core capabilities (such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity) problem based learning (PBL) has been widely adopted in universities. Two important features of PBL are 'collaboration between team members' and 'participation based self-directed learning'. These two features should be satisfied in online education, although it is difficult due to the limitation on space and time in the COVID-19 pandemic. This paper presents a new design of PBL class in Metaverse, based on improving the online PBL class operated in the previous semesters in the H university. In the proposed PBL class, students are able to display materials (e.g., image, pdf, video files) in 3D virtual space, that are related to problem solving. The 3D virtual space is called gallery in this paper. The concept of gallery allows for active participation of students. In addition, the gallery can be used as a tool for collaborative meeting or for final presentation. If possible, the new design of PBL class will be applied and its effectiveness will be analyzed.

Estimation of Appropriate Number of Radiologic Technologist Based on Analysis of Time Required for Computed Tomography (전산화단층촬영의 소요시간 분석에 기반한 방사선사의 적정인력 산정에 관한 연구)

  • Although the number of computed tomography(CT) is increasing every year, it is insufficient to establish appropriate workload calculation standards of radiologic technologist to provide optimal medical services to patients, such as patient safety management and infection management. The purpose of this study is to present guidelines for calculating the appropriate workload of radiologic technologist by analyzing the work flow of CT procedures and the time required for CT examination in major hospitals. As for the study subjects and methods, the appropriate process for each step of CT examination was investigated to systematically present the process and time required for the actual examination, and the CT procedure time of 104,105 adult patients and 465 pediatric patients under the age of 6 were analyzed. For the time required, data according to the use of contrast medium, procedure type, and adult/child were collected and compared. The test time of CT examination using contrast medium took about 13 minutes when one radiologic technologist worked and about 9 minutes when two radiologic technologists worked. The time required for the procedures were statistically significant depending on the presence or absence of contrast medium, multi-phase procedure, and patient age (considering pediatric patients). As a result, in order to thoroughly perform patient safety and infection management, the appropriate workload increased by about 40% when there were two radiologic technologists. The limit workload was an average of 32 people per day with one radiologic technologist per 15 minutes, and 48 people per day with two radiologic technologist per 10 minutes. This is a marginal workload, and in the case of procedures that require more time to acquire radiographic images, the interval between reservations should be widened.

Block-based Learned Image Compression for Phase Holograms (신경망 기반 블록 단위 위상 홀로그램 이미지 압축)

  • It is an important issue to compress huge holographic data in a digital format. In particular, research on the compression of phase-only holograms for commercialization is noteworthy. Conventional video coding standards optimized for natural images are not suitable for compressing phase signals, and neural network-based compression model that can be optimized for phase signals can achieve high performance, but has a memory issue in learning high-resolution holographic data. In this paper, we show that by applying a block-based learned image compression model that can solve memory problems to phase-only holograms, the proposed method can demonstrate significant performance improvement over standard codecs even under the same conditions as block-based. Block-based learned compression model can provide compatibility with conventional standard codecs, solve memory problems, and can perform significantly better against phase-only hologram compression.

  • 한국건설기술연구원(Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology, KICT)의 안동하천연구센터(Andong River Experiment Center, REC)는 다양한 하천 관련 실규모 실험을 수행하기 위해 3개의 수로를 보유하고 있다. 본 연구의 주목적인 실증 실험 계측 결과를 기반으로 3D 게임엔진을 이용하여 물 흐름을 재현하기 위해 A1 수로를 대상구간으로 설정하였다. 실증 실험의 경우 2개의 수문 개도율 조건에서 ADV와 ADCP를 활용하여 계측된 유량 및 유속 결과들을 비교하였으며, 추가적으로 영상 데이터로 부터 표면유속(LS-PIV)을 산정하였다. 3D 게임 엔진은 렌더링 엔진, 물리 엔진, 오디오 엔진, UI 시스템, 게임플레이 프레임워크 등이 잘 융합된 소스코드들과 개발자들이 이용하기 쉬운 방식으로 변환된 툴(tool)로 제공하여 현실 세계를 가상 세계에 시각화하여 구현하는데 큰 장점을 가지고 있다. 또한 기존의 흐름 재현이 가능한 수리/수문 모델링의 경우 특정한 목적으로만 이용가능하고 연산에 소용되는 시간 때문에 실시간 흐름재현이 어렵지만, 3D 게임엔진을 이용하는 경우 다양한 목적과 여러 분야와의 고려가 동시에 가능하며 연산의 단순화를 통해 실시간 흐름 재현이 가능하다는 장점이 있다. 본 연구에서는 언리얼 엔진의 Niagara Fluids와 Fluid flux 툴들을 활용하여 하천실증실험 시설 일부 구간에 대해 물 흐름을 재현하였다. 먼저 하천실험실증시설을 드론과 RTK-GPS를 이용하여 촬영된 결과를 정합하여 3D 게임엔진 기반 흐름 재현을 위한 지형 기초 자료를 구축하였다. 지형 계측 결과를 기반으로 A1 수로 전체 구간을 대상구간으로 설정한 이후 수문 조절을 통해 흐름 조건을 제어할 수 있도록 제작하였으며, 실제 흐름에 대한 계측 결과를 기반으로 재현된 흐름을 대상으로 material 값의 조정(방향 X, Y값을 RGB값으로 변환한 뒤 벡터 길이 값으로 환산)을 통해 0~100 사이 값을 이용하여 유속을 표현하였다. 최근 가상공간 (i.e. 디지털트윈) 관련 시장 성장이 매우 빠르고 다양한 사업에서 해당 기술의 수요가 증가하고 있으며, 본 연구를 통해 물 흐름의 디지털 트윈화를 위한 수단으로서 3D 게임 엔진의 활용 가능성을 확인하였다. 다만 실제 하천의 적용과 하천관리를 위한 실용화를 위해서는 추가적인 연구와 분석이 이루어져야 할 것이다.

  • 가뭄은 농업, 환경 및 사회경제적인 조건에 영향을 미치는 주요 자연 재해로 우리나라는 2015년부터 지속적인 가뭄 상황을 겪고 있다. 지속된 가뭄으로 인해 토양의 수분함량이 변화하여 농작물의 생장 활동 등에 영향을 미쳐 수확량이 낮아질 수 있다. 토양수분은 경사나 토질 등 지형학적인 특성에 따라 민감하게 반응하는 수문인자로, 특성을 광역적으로 정확하게 판단하기 어렵기 때문에 고해상도 원격탐사 자료를 활용하여 토양수분의 거동을 파악하는 연구들이 진행되고 있다. 특히, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) 관측은 작물과 기본적인 토양의 유전체 및 기하학적 특성에 민감하게 반응하기 때문에, 토양수분 및 농업적 가뭄 분석 연구에 활용되고 있다. 본 연구는 2025년 발사될 예정인 C-band SAR 수자원 위성 산출물인 토양수분을 적용한 농업적 가뭄지수산정 알고리즘 기법 개발 연구를 위하여, 수자원 위성과 제원이 비슷한 Sentinel-1 자료를 통해 산정된 토양수분을 활용하여 농업적 가뭄지수인 Soil Moisture Drought Index (SMDI)를 산정하고자 한다. 산정된 SMDI의 검증을 위해 지점 관측된 토양수분 자료와 비교하여 Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) 분석 및 error matrix 기법 등을 활용하여 산정된 농업적 가뭄지수의 지역적 적용성을 파악하고자 한다. SAR 자료 기반의 농업적 가뭄지수 산정 알고리즘을 개발함으로써, 향후 제공될 수자원 위성의 자료를 활용한 가뭄 분석 연구에 활용될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

Cultural Discount Analysis of Chinese and Korean Co-production Movies (한중 합작 영화의 문화 할인 분석)

  • Under the background of globalization, the borderless nature of film and television language makes the exchange of film as the carrier become an important part of cultural exchanges in various countries. Therefore, film co-production between China and the United States, China and Japan, China and South Korea and other countries has become an important part of the current Chinese film industry. Among them, China and South Korea are close neighbors, and the exchanges between the two countries' films are also increasing. Korean movies have recovered since the 1990s, and they prospered at the beginning of the 21st century, and have formed a unique influence in the international community, especially in crime, suspense, love and other types of films. The co-production of Chinese and Korean films began to appear in 2000, and the signing of the "China-Korea Co-production Film Agreement" in 2014 prompted the rapid convergence of Chinese and Korean film co-productions. However, the co-productions of China and South Korea did not achieve good expectations in terms of communication effects and market evaluation. This article will use the "cultural discount" theory in cross-cultural communication to analyze the reasons for the cultural discounts produced by Chinese and Korean co-productions and how to avoid this phenomenon to the maximum extent.

  • In an era where non-face-to-face meetings become common, eXtended Reality(XR) is rapidly developing and filling areas that are not satisfied in online meetings based on existing photos/video method. In particular, general users are also able to easily access and use HMD-type mixed reality devices. However, the basic operations applied in HMD-type in Mixed Reality(MR) with hands as the main input tool do not have a standardized system, and each manufacturer operates in a separate response to each other's hand movements. Therefore, this study considered that a systematic hand motion matching system considering the usability and efficiency of operations performed in mixed reality was necessary, and conducted a study to clarify this. First, the basic operation performed in the MR environment and its attributes were investigated, and at the same time, the structure of the hand and the attributes of the possible hand movements were identified. Based on the identified properties, it is intended to present a system that can intuitively and efficiently match basic operation properties in the MR environment with subtle operation properties according to the structure/context of the hand.

1D Kinetics Model of NH3-Fed Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (암모니아 공급 고체산화물 연료전지의 1D 반응 모델)

  • Cracking ammonia inside solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) stack is a compact and simple way. To prevent sharp temperature fluctuation and increase cell efficiency, the decomposition reaction should be spread on whole cell area. This leading to a question that, how does anode thickness affect the conversion rate of ammonia and the cell voltage? Since the 0D model of SOFC is useful for system level simulation, how accurate is it to use equilibrium solver for internal ammonia cracking reaction? The 1D model of ammonia fed SOFC was used to simulate the diffusion and reaction of ammonia inside the anode electrode, then the partial pressure of hydrogen and steam at triple phase boundary was used for cell voltage calculation. The result shows that, the ammonia conversion rate increases and reaches saturated value as anode thickness increase, and the saturated thickness is bigger for lower operating temperature. The similar cell voltage between 1D and 0D models can be reached with NH3 conversion rate above 90%. The 0D model and 1D model of SOFC showed similar conversion rate at temperature over 750℃.

  • For the economic analysis of fuel cells, levelized cost of electricity was calculated according to the type, capacity, and annual production of the fuel cells. The cost of every component was calculated through the system component breakdown. The direct cost of the system included stack cost, component cost, assembly, test, and conditioning cost, and profit markup cost were added. The effect of capacity and annual production was analyzed by fuel cell type. Sensitivity analysis was performed according to stack life, capital cost, project period, and fuel cost. As a result, it was derived how much the economic efficiency of the fuel cell improves as the capacity increases and the annual production increases.

  • VR animation allows you to see 360-degree screen production that cannot be seen in existing animation production while being located in the space within the animation. <Goodbye Mr Octopus>, a VR animation produced in 2020, was selected at the 77th Venice Film Festival as an immersive short film. This is the story of an adolescent girl, Stella, who is celebrating her 16th birthday, and her conflict with her strict father is resolved through a letter from her mother. It is a narrative composed of a total of 11 scenes, and in each scene, new directing elements of VR video grammar, such as gaze induction, time flow, and space conversion directing, were analyzed. Gaze-inducing directing minimized the inconvenience of 360-degree gaze, and time and space conversion directing was analyzed as an effect of increasing the audience's immersion according to narrative events.
