In this paper, a digital closed-circuit television (CCTV) transmission system called the extended reach high definition serial digital interface (ER-SDI) is proposed to increase the transmission distance while preserving the quality using digital modulation. The current standard of HD-serial digital interface (HD-SDI) has the maximum transmission distance of 200 m. Recently, one system which transforms the digital signal to an analog signal and modulates color signal to extend the transmission distance is proposed. Another system which uses IP network is also proposed. However, the former system has a disadvantage of video quality and the latter system has high latency. The proposed ER-SDI is designed to extend the transmission distance of 518 m by adopting multilevel constellations and a channel code for a data rate of 1.485 Gbps. The maximum transmission distance of the proposed system is calculated using the specification of HD-SDI and the experiment result under coaxial cable environment.

In this paper, since we currently using surveillance system of analog type bring about waste of resource and efficiency deterioration problems, we describe new solution that design and implementation to the digital surveillance system of new type applying compression techniques and encoding techniques of image data using MPEG-2 international standard. Also, we proposed fast motion estimation algorithm requires much less than the convectional digital surveillance camera system. In this paper a fast motion estimation algorithm is proposed the MPEG-2 video encoding. This algorithm is based on a hybrid use of the block matching technique and gradient technique. Also, we describe a method of moving object extraction directly using MPEG-2 video data. Since proposed method is very simple and requires much less computational power than the conventional object detection methods. In this paper we don't use specific H/W and this system is possible only software encoding, decoding and transmission real-time for image data.

In this paper, we propose a deblocking filter hardware architecture for low-power HEVC (High-Efficiency Video Coding) in-loop for mobile systems. HEVC performs image compression on a block-by-block basis, resulting in blockage of the image due to quantization error. The deblocking filter is used to remove the blocking phenomenon in the image. Currently, UHD video service is supported in various mobile systems, but power consumption is high. The proposed low-power deblocking filter hardware structure minimizes the power consumption by blocking the clock to the internal module when the filter is not applied. It also has four parallel filter structures for high throughput at low operating frequencies and each filter is implemented in a four-stage pipeline. The proposed deblocking filter hardware structure is designed with Verilog HDL and synthesized using TSMC 65nm CMOS standard cell library, resulting in about 52.13K gates. In addition, real-time processing of 8K@84fps video is possible at 110MHz operating frequency, and operation power is 6.7mW.

This paper addresses the stereoscopic 3D broadcasting technology that delivers the 3DTV contents through the digital cable networks. In order to convey the 3D contents via DCA TV network, specifications of 3D video format, compression, multiplexing, signalling and transport are to be developed. Since 3D has some constraints unlike 2D, it is required to be well designed by considering the capacity of the additional view and the backward/forward compatibility. This paper goes with the latest trends of 3D standard, requirements and service scenarios and then covers the 3D format, compression, multiplexing and signaling, service information and transport/reception technologies.

In the paper, a Motion JPEG2000 coder which has been set as the standard for image compression by the Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI), an organization composed of major movie studios was implemented into a target FPGA. The DWT (Discrete Wavelet Transform) based on lifting and the Tier 1 of EBCOT (Embedded Block Coding with Optimized Truncation) which are major functional modules of the JPEG2000 were setup with dedicated hardware. The Tier 2 process was implemented in software. For digital cinema the tile-size was set to support $1024\times1024$ pixels. To ensure the real-time operations, three entropy encoders were used. When Verilog-HDL was used for hardware, resources of 32,470 LEs in Altera's Stratix EP1S80 were used, and the hardware worked stably at the frequency of 150Mhz.
In this paper, we propose an adaptive multi-view video service framework suitable for mobile environments. The proposed framework generates intermediate views in near-realtime and overcomes the limitations of mobile services by adapting the multi-view video according to the processing capability of a mobile device as well as the user characteristics of a client. By implementing the most of adaptation processes at the server side, the load on a client can be reduced. H.264/AVC is adopted as a compression scheme. The framework could provide an interactive service with efficient video service to a mobile client. For this, we present a multi-view video DIA (Digital Item Adaptation) that adapts the multi-view video according to the MPEG-21 DIA multimedia framework. Experimental results show that our proposed system can support a frame rate of 13 fps for 320{\times}240 video and reduce the time of generating an intermediate view by 20 % compared with a conventional 3D projection method.

We propose an efficient video watermarking scheme using re-estimation and minimum modification technique of motion vectors. Conventional methods based on motion vectors do watermarking using modification of motion vectors. However, change of motion vectors results in the degradation of video quality. Thus, our scheme minimizes the modification of the original motion vectors and replaces an original motion vector by the adjacent optimal motion vector using re-estimation of motion vectors to avoid degradation of video quality. Besides, our scheme guarantees the amount of embedded watermark data using the adaptive threshold considering for an efficient video watermarking. In addition, this is compatible with current video compression standards without changing the bitstream. Experimental result shows that the proposed scheme obtains better video quality than other previous algorithms by about $0.6{\sim}1.3\;dB$.

One of the most significant characteristics of JPEG2000. the emerging still image standards. is the ROI (Region of Interest) coding. JPEG2000 provides a number of ROI coding mechanisms and ROI parameters. To apply them to an application, it must select the applicable values. In this paper, we evaluate how the ROI coding mechanisms and the ROI parameters influencing JPEG2000 qualify affect the ROI quality and the whole image quality. The ROI coding mechanisms are Maxshift and Implicit. and the parameters are tile size and ROI size, codeblock size, number of DWT decomposition levels and ROI importance. The bigger the tile size, the better the quality. The bigger the ROI size, the ROI importance and the number of DWT decomposition levels, the worse the qualify. In code block $32{\times}32$ of Maxshift and Implicit, it has the best qualify.

This paper proposes the hardware IP design of JBIG2 encoder. In order to facilitate the next generation FAX after the standardization of JBIG2, major modules of JBIG2 encoder are designed and implemented, such as symbol extraction module, Huffman coder, MMR coder, and MQ coder. ImpulseC Codeveloper and Xilinx ISE/EDK program are used for the synthesis of VHDL code. To minimize the memory usage, 128 lines of input image are processed succesively instead of total image. The synthesized IPs are downloaded to Virtex-4 FX60 FPGA on ML410 development board. The four synthesized IPs utilize 36.7% of total slice of FPGA. Using Active-HDL tool, the generated IPs were verified showing normal operation. Compared with the software operation using microblaze cpu on ML410 board, the synthesized IPs are better in operation time. The improvement ratio of operation time between the synthesized IP and software is 17 times in case of symbol extraction IP, and 10 times in Huffman coder IP. MMR coder IP shows 6 times faster and MQ coder IP shows 2.2 times faster than software only operation. The synthesized H/W IP and S/W module cooperated to succeed in compressing the CCITT standard document.
As Scalable Video Coding (SVC) is a video compression standard extended from H.264/AVC, it is a way to provide scalability in terms of temporal, spatial and quality. Although the compression efficiency of SVC is increased due to the scalability in many aspect, it is essential to reduce the complexity in order to efficiently use because the complexity is relatively increased. To reduce the complexity of SVC in the paper, we propose fast mode decision algorithm to reduce the complexity of encoding process using direction information of B-picture by efficiently performing inter-layer prediction. The proposed algorithm is a fast mode decision algorithm that makes different from detection mode number of forward and backward, bi-direction in the way using best mode of base-layer up-sampled after simply SKIP mode detection using the direction information of best mode of base-layer up-sampled. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm approach can achieve the maximum computational time saving about 53% with almost no loss of rate distortion (RD) performance in the enhancement layer.
