  • With recent rapid globalization, accurate information for the foreign countries is increasingly important. Errors based on inaccurate information and unequal international relationships complicate the situations. In this article, authors analyzed the Japanese place names which appear on the Google Earth images and place name database of the NGA. Google Earth already becomes a tremendous soft power in internet society; therefore, accurate information on the satellite image is more necessary than ever. This article finds that many types of errors exist in the place names in Google Earth image service. Also many place names are listed with Japanese pronunciation in GNS database as variants. The Japanese place names have not been used in topographic maps published since 1910s and 1930s. Japanese place names were widely used in US military maps published in 1946. 1:250,000 maps published in 1954, however, doesn't seem to use Japanese pronunciation any more.

Halla-san에 대한 미국의 NGA(National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency)의 지명정보 데이터베이스에서 검색한 결과는 아래와 같다.

  • This study was focused on digital restoration and structural stability evaluation applying 3D scanning system of five-storied Magoksa temple stone pagoda in Gongju. For these, the digital restoration of the pagoda was completed using laser scan data which is measured 16 directions and data processing program of 7 stages. As a result of digital restoration, the overall height and width of stone properties showed a little difference in directions and the width of roof stones appeared very high difference of each floor. The width of pagoda body become smaller to the fifth floor, but gradual decrease rate showed irregular characteristics. Also, as result of 3D image analysis for structural stability evaluation, the displacement occurred toward northwest in second body stone to upper final stone except for central axis of the first body stone which inclines toward southwest. Such 3D image analysis is required quantification of survey method and should be applied to various field such as quantitative damage maps in order to utilize a conservation of stone cultural heritages, continuously.

  • The Korean $taeg{\breve{u}}m$, a horizontal bamboo flute, is considered a representative wind instrument of Korean traditional music. Symbolized by its unique timbre and diverse techniques, this instrument transmits the beauty of Korea, and has become acknowledged even in international music scenes. Being a $taeg{\breve{u}}m$ player, composer, and ethnomusicology researcher, I have developed creative collaborations with musicians from Asian, electro-acoustic, jazz, and Western art music traditions developed outside my country of origin and tried to overcome musical boundaries through the 'intercultural performances' (after Turner 1988). Zooming in one collaboration, I detail the process of music creation and performance, collaborating with prominent Korean composer Kim $Taes{\breve{o}}ng$ (b.1967), who was commissioned by myself to write two compositions for the $taeg{\breve{u}}m$ and Western art music. The purpose is twofold: firstly, the modernization and appropriation of the Korean flute is briefly tracked down within the context of Western Art music. Secondly, a performance project is illustrated with the support of technical apparatuses such as DVD and CD recordings and delves further into the question of the 'cultural relativism' (Michael Tenzer, 2006: 7) through the interactive process. The performance-as-research, as a tool 'actualizing' (Richard Schechner 2003: 32) the hybridity, touches on critical domains in Ethnomusicology. The corresponding two parts discover, as Alan Merriam's(1964) 'tripartite model' suggests, the 'context' of Korean and Western cultures, the 'behaviour' of collaborating and performing and the 'sound' of improvised and composed productions in the course of music making.

  • TV Broadcasting is an undeniable cultural medium. TV Broadcasting Station needs a long-term perspective that suits cultural media and an aggressive cultural and artistic program development strategy that matches rapidly changing culture and technology. Of course, production staff should be composed of experts in the field as well as cultural artists. This paper is researching the promotion strategy of TV Arts programs by substituting the three keywords - the U.S., the public broadcasting station(TV) and Arts programs. And through case studies and analyses of PBS TV's "Art in the 21st Century" series, the way the public TV broadcasting station shares cultural arts with viewers is extracted. It raises the question of how the U.S. TV public broadcaster's cultural and artistic programs are different from South KOREA's. Through the above research, let's find a clue to the future direction of how the new media, now represented as Korea's blacklist, should recognize, foster, educate and strategize Fine Arts.

  • This paper deals with the process of developing a traditional culture content based on the historical spread of Jajimu, an ethnic dance of ancient Tashkent(Chach), to Tang China and then to Goryeo in Korean peninsula. Jajimu as a solo dance form was a very enegetic dance form that reflects the dynamic nature of namadic life, and it enjoyed high popularity in Tang China due to its exotic style after the 8th century A.D. Later, it gave a birth to a derivative duet dance form called Ssangjaji or Guljaji, an highly sophisticated elegant court dance item that reflects the aesthetic taste of Tang China. Further, the Ssangjaji was flowed into Georyeo around in the 11th century or earlier, and was transformed into a Korean court dance while renaming it as Yeonhwadae that means 'lotus pedestal'. I tried the production of a special performance which displys those three dance forms on same stage to demonstrate the historical connection of ancient Asian dance. It was not easy to restore the music, dance and costume of Jajimu and Ssangjaji because of limited historical materials whereas those of Korean Yeonhwadae have been well preserved and transmitted owing to old dance and music notation system. A large amount of audio, visual materials were collected and analysed to overcome those limits, and its result was utilized efficiently for the production. The final performance was the culmination of long preparation process for 11 months in 2015. In spite of some limits, this project has a historical meaning in the point that it was the first trial of same kind in the world.
