It focused on posts in official Facebooks and Twitters of the U.S. and the U.K. national archives. The posts included 66 in Facebook and 670 in Twitter of the U.S. national archives, as well as 73 in Facebook and 84 in Twitter of the U.K. national archive. The analysis showed that information sharing of in-house collections and online resources, as well as information dissemination of events were the most common interaction types of the posts. 1 and 1 communication or information gathering such as questionnaire or vote rarely happened. In addition, the extent of users' responses was great on posts regarding information sharing of in-house collections. Providing information about people or events with timely manners motivated interests and participations of users. It is necessary to consider various types of interactions that facilitate user engagement. It is also important to make efforts to provide timely records in connection with exiting web resources and a variety of social media provided by archival institutions.

  • Because of the creation and transfer of born-digital records, file unit-based record description practices have changed fundamentally. In this study, we analyzed the archival description practices of The National Archives (TNA) to maintain intellectual control in the digital records management environment and to support the access to records of users. TNA has created an archival description based on ISAD(G) but, for describing born-digital records, it changed the guideline for descriptive cataloging practices. As the method of ISAD(G) cannot adhere to born-digital records, the next-generation descriptive standard, Records in Contexts (RiC), is still being developed by ICA. In addition to international efforts, we need to build an archival description system that fits our environment, especially because since the year 2000, TNA's online cataloging system has changed and ISAD(G) has been modified in this process. This study also proposed continuous monitoring of digital archival descriptions, provides an integrated approach to analog records and digital content and strengthens experimentation and cooperation toward an uncertain digital future.

  • In order to design effective electronic records management systems, it is viable to consider both traditional principles of records management, proven to be effective, and the characteristics of digital information. ISO 15489, an international standard for records management, is acknowledged as the most useful guidelines for this goal. The present study extracted basic principles of electronic records management from its provisions of 7 functional steps. It then compared the principles to system requirements of three system design criterion, developed by Department of Defense(U.S.A.) Public Records Office(Britain). and European Union respectively. Common requirements, included in all three criterion. were then searched in the Korean standard of developing automated systems for records centers. Finally, suggestions were made to develop a Korean standard for electronic records management system, elaborating from the core requirements of the system found by the present study.

  • Recently, various methods of collecting and preserving social media have been discussed in the field of archives and records management as social media is actively used as a way of communicating with the public in the government. In the United States, there is a move to acquire and preserve social media at the government level, and the National Archives (UK) already provides social media archives to users through Twitter and YouTube. In this study, we proposed the features, acquisition methods of social media by type and the preservation model based on case study results in terms of acquisition and preservation of social media archiving. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed methods, this study was applied to the social media of Gyeongsangnamdo provincial government. The results of this study is meaningful in that it suggested acquisition and preservation methods through actual collected results and it is expected that it will be useful for establishing the models for future social media archiving.
