Public libraries in Korea have increased dramatically in number through the last 45 years.However, compared to the public libraries of the United States of America, United Kingdom of Britain, and Japan, public libraries in Korea tended to have a higher rate of capita visits per a public library, so public libraries' infrastructure in Korea is very inadequate. This research analyzed cooperative network cases for public libraries of London Borough of Camden, Ootaku in Janpan, and Bucheon City in Korea to deduct a plan to broaden the service area and to make management more efficient by managing based on the single-administrative district area as a regional library system. With these results this research excogitated a cooperative network model and a plan to make the management more efficient. As a conclusion, as public libraries increase in numbers we need to examine the proper scale, and we need to construct a central-concentrated system to enhance management efficiency between a central library and branch lib aries or small libraries.

국제양돈수의학회(International Pig Veterinary Society ; I.P.V.S) 제14차 총회 및 학술대회가 1996년 7월 7일부터 11일까지 이태리 중북부의 대학도시 볼로냐(Bologna, Italy)에서 개최되었다. I.P.V.S.는 1969년에 영국의 캠브리지 (Cambridge, United Kingdom)에서 창립된 이래 1996년 현재 53개 회원국 1,700 여명의 회원을 확보하고 있으며, 세계 각국의 양돈과 수의학에 관심을 가지고 있는 학자, 생산자 그리고 관련업계 인사들의 학술$\cdot$기술 정보교류와 협력을 목적으로 매 2년마다 세계 주요도시를 순회 하면서 개최되고 있다. 앞으로 2년후(1998년도)에는 I.P.V.S.의 탄생국인 영국의 버밍햄(Birmingham, United Kingdom)에서 제 15차 총회 및 학술대회를 개최할 예정이며 2000년대에는 시드니 올림픽과 때를 맞추어 호주의 멜보른(Melboume, Australia)에서 제16차 총회를 개최하기로 결정되어 있다. 금년(1996년도) I.P.V.S 총회에는 우리나라에서 30개 기관/업체로부터 50여명이 참여한 바 있으며 총 27편 (구두 9편, 포스터 18편)의 학술논문을 발표하는 등 눈부신 활약을 보인 바 있다. 금년도 I.P.V.S. 총회의 특징은 돼지의 전염성 질병중 근래에 우리나라에서도 문제시 되고 있는 '돼지 생식기 호흡기 중후군 (Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome ; PRRS)'이 세계적인 관심의 대상이었으며, 이태리 양돈병리축산학회 (Societa Italiana di Patologia ed Allevamento dei Suini ; S.I.P.A.S) 주관으로 '돼지 적리 (Swine Dysentery)'에 관한 Satellite Symposium이 개최되었다는 점이다. WTO 이래 어려워지고만 있는 우리나라 축산업 분야중 그래도 비젼이 보이는 양돈산업과 관련하여, I.P.V.S.를 통하여 우리나라 수의업무의 세계화의 길을 찾아보고자, 1 국제양돈수의학회(I.P.V.S)의 역사 (양돈과 수의업무 전문가의 새로운 만남의 장), 2 I.P.V.S.에의 참여(제13차 방콕대회), 3 한국 수의사의 활약(제14차 볼로냐대회), 4 세계화의 길(제15차 버밍햄대회, 제16차 멜보른대회), 5 국내양돈의 문제와 우리가 해야할 일(수의업무 세계화의 길을 찾자)등의 순으로 적어보고자 한다.

Institutional repository has been regarded as core facilities of research libraries to realize open access by collecting, preserving, distributing of intellectual asset what institution has created. In our country, many universities and research institutions are trying to introduce institutional repository system. But almost universities not only take the negative attitude to manage properly, but also never give basic training to staff members who take over institutional repository job. This study brightens up the current status of Korean training system and compares the British and Japanese cases what shows diverse advanced managing cases. Furthermore, by putting together demands of hands-on workers, suggest direction of future institutional repository staff training system. First, institutional repository staff training system has to suggest strategies to induce strong support from institution. Second, it has to give not only courses about content collecting and registering, but also practical training. Finally, the program for enhancing system management technology has to be provided, and the place where technical staffs can share their system information mutually has to be provided.

The effect of combinations of temperature, water column height and extraction time onthe efficiency of wet funnel extraction methods for enumerating Enchytraeids in a blanket bog peat soil from Moor House, Cumbria, England were investigated. The optimal conditions for extracting enchytraeids from this study were found to be a water surface temperature of 35$^{\circ}C$, with an extraction time of 6 hours, regardless of initial water temperature and water level in the extraction funnel. The original O'Connor method (40-45$^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours extraction and gradually increasing heating) yielding a high variation in the extraction efficiency, largely due to the comparatively higher temperature and shorter extraction time than this method. Attempts to extract without heat over longer periods showed very low extraction efficiencies for this highly organic blanket bog soil when compared with any of the heating wet funnel methods.

This study intends to find the meaning of signs' configuration in Korean and British school uniform advertisements, to investigate through reproduction of such signs what influences on students' identity issues are, and to discover the cultural significance of the both nations by analysing sexuality discourses around these ads. The authors apply semiotic analysis methods such as two-stage meaning structure and critical discourse analysis. The research subjects are School uniform advertisements of both in South Korea and in the UK. Through this study, women objectification, the power imbalances between men and women, and child erotica were revealed, and also the uniforms of the meaning and value turned out to be distorted. In addition, on the basis of critical discourse analysis, two nations' school uniform ads, which heavily focused on sexual objectification and commercialism, transformed aspects of unusual esthetic value, reminded of Lolita fantasy, implied wrong justification of deviant sexual orientation, and, caused Korean and British students the confusion of sexual identity and values.

The present study set out to explore the acculturative stress and mental health(depression) of Korean women living in Britain according to socio-demographic factors, social relations and social supports level. 152 Korean women's data were collected and analyzed with frequency, correlation, ANOVA. Analysis revealed that women's acculturative stress and depression level was 2.50(moderate) and 1.66(slightly low) respectively. Acculturative stress level showed correlation with depression level. Among demographic variables, acculturative stress was significantly different from residence period in Britain, marriage and economic state and the level of depression was also different from job and economic state. The group which has frequent relationships with British and high level of social supports showed low acculturative stress. The group has high level of social supports also showed low depression. These findings highlight the importance of concerns and interventions about acculturation and mental health of Korean immigrant women and community services for the new immigrant women to improve their acculturation and mental health.

This study aims to compare the government accounting reform of advanced countries and South Korea and suggest policy implications for South Korea. The reform steps are structured down to institutional introduction, institutional formation and institutional stability. I researched the literatures on the government accounting system and compiled research materials from the Finance Ministries, Audit Offices, and Government Accounting Standards Boards websites of New Zealand, US, UK and South Korea. Analysis showed that advanced countries and South Korea have adopted accrual accounting systems which have provided more comprehensive and objective financial information. But the government accounting system of South Korea compared with those of advanced countries needs reform. The suggestions of this study include: expanding range of whole of government financial statements; giving coherence to the public accounting standards; adopting government audit system; and introducing accrual budgeting. However, there are differences between business accounting and government accounting and the differences are considered for government accounting reform.

This essay provides a critical introduction to some of the major issues relating to ITV Digital. The demise of ITV Digital has hit the economics of broadcasting industry in UK. ITV Digital's failure is seen as digital nightmare. This study approaches to three dimensions of the failed ITV Digital. There are the failure of policy, business strategy, technological debacle. As I have discussed, competitive environment of digital broadcasting squeezed ITV Digital into financial trouble. In order to examine current development of digital terrestrial television, three questions have been raised. First, What is the government of digital broadcasting? Second, What is the business strategy of ITV Digital? In particular, the failure of business model deserved careful watching. Third, What is the failure of digital technology?

This study is to ascertain the meaning of personal media as cultural intermediaries in the cultural diffusion, acceptance, and intermediation for the production and consumption of cultural contents. We examined the case of personal media, , which is one of popular YouTube channel in Korea and analyzed fifty most viewed videos in last two years based on four perspectives of digital cultural intermediaries: forms, expression methods, linguistic features, and evaluations. As expected, results demonstrate that shows characteristics of digital intermediary: diverse subjects without fixed rules, a variety of multimedia effects, colloquial style including neologism and multilingual, and users' high preferences caused by creator's sincerity. Our findings and limitations can serve directions of further empirical researches.

This study is focused on concepts and types of drilling investigating the scope of activity and problems the application of marine environment and safety acts related to deep-sea drilling for the development of the continental shelf in Korea. For the systemic development of subsea mineral resources, this study suggest a legislative proposal for the establishment of a separate law based on the UK Offshore Installation (Safety Case) regulation and improvement of the marine environment management act, maritime safety act and oil & mining safety regulation. Specially, this study emphasized on the necessity of establishing education, training and evaluation system according to the international certification training for the domestic work force based on accident cases related to overseas offshore plants.
