Using the finite element analysis model presented in accompanying paper, parametric study was performed in this paper. Various parameters were considered such as the width of wheel loads-induced permanent plastic deformation, backfill, equivalent thickness and orthogonal characteristic of steel mats. The effects of these parameters were analyzed for vertical and rotational displacements, maximum moment and tensile stress. From the parametric studies, it is found that great vertical deflection and tensile stress above allowable flexural tensile strength are developed in steel mats by the wheel loads-induced permanent plastic deformation. Backfill or increasing the thickness of steel mats is a feasible solution on this problem.

The scale effects on the permanent deformations and fractures of structures subjected to impact loadings have been aware by structural engineers for a long time. Experimental investigations have been performed with various structures to demonstrate the effects, but very few are directly related with marine structural elements. Furthermore, the causes of the scale effects have not clearly been answered yet. In this study, to quantify the scale effects on the permanent deflections, lateral collision tests were performed on steel unstiffened plates and the numerical analyses of the tested models were also conducted using a commercial package, Abaqus. After the substantiation of the numerical tool using the test results, a parametric study was carried out considering and neglecting the strain-rate hardening. Based upon the parametric study results, it may be concluded that the main cause of the scale effects on the permanent deflections of steel unstiffened plates subjected to lateral collision loads is the strain-rate effects.

As part of recent low-energy policies, thermal insulation standards for buildings are being tightened every year. In addition, the conventional styrofoam insulating material has a problem that the thickness of the heat insulating material to achieve a standard heat permeability is rapidly increased. Due to the thick insulation, there is a high risk of spreading vulnerable structures such as fire due to lack of space between buildings. On the other hand, the method of using the insulation as a formwork is known to be excellent cost saving effect through the reduction of the formwork usage and the simplification of the external insulation work. In order to solve this problem, this study aims to fabricate a multi-layered insulator that combines high-performance phenolic foam insulation and styrofoam insulation and evaluate the deflection characteristics for use as formwork.
In this thesis, the fatigue tests were performed on a series of SFRC(steel fiber reinforced concrete) to investigate the fatigue behavior of SFRC varying with the steel fiber contents and the steel fiber aspect ratios. The three point loading system is used in the fatigue tests. In tl1ese tests, relations between the repeated loading cycles and the mid-span deflections, number of repeated loadmg cycles when specimen was fractured were observed. On this basis, the mid-span deflections, the elastic strain energy and inelastic strain energy of SFRC were studied. A S - N curve \vas drawn to present the fatigue strength of SFRC beam.
From che test results, by increasing the steel fiber content the energy lost on the permanent deformation decreases and the energy spent on crack growth increases. But in case of SFRC with the same steel fiber content the higher the steel fiber aspect ratio is, the less the elastic strain energy is. According to S - N curve drawn by the regression analysis on the fatugue test results, the fatigue strength with 2,000,000 repeated loading cycles in SFRC with the steel fiber content is 1.0% shows about 70% on the first crack static flexural strength.

A forced vibration model of a rail system was established using the Timoshenko beam theory to determine the dynamic response of a rail under time-varying load considering the damping effect and stiffness of the elastic foundation. By using a Fourier series and a numerical method, the critical velocity and dynamic response of the rail were obtained. The forced vibration model was verified by using FEM and Euler beam theory. The permanent deformation of the rail was predicted based on the forced vibration model. The permanent deformation and wear were observed through the experiment. Parametric studies were then conducted to investigate the effect of five design factors, i.e., rail cross-section shape, rail material density, rail material stiffness, containment stiffness, and damping coefficient between rail and containment, on four performance indices of the rail, i.e., critical velocity, maximum deflection, maximum longitudinal stress, and maximum shear stress.

This study is to improve constructability of LB-DECK construction in site such as inconvenience of main and distribution bars in arrangements LB-DECK Panel which is work is applied to many bridges these days as a permanent formwork. So, the constructability is improved by changing the method of allocation of main reinforcing bar and distribution bar which is reviewed for improving efficiency of design and construction process among the suggested methods. The crack shapes, deflections, and strains under static load of the improvement of LB-DECK Panel are compared and analyzed to former LB-DECK Panel. As a result, 13% of strength compared to before the improvement of LB-DECK Panel, and 10% of strength is increased in the case of slab.
This paper presents experimental static test results of the precast concrete panels developed for short-span concrete bridge deck form. Different from LB-DECK, concrete rib attached to the bottom surface of concrete panel, and Top-bar is not used at the top surface of concrete panel. Number of concrete ribs and cross-section details of concrete rib are determined from the analytical results of parametric study considering the span length and the thickness of concrete bridge decks. Shear rebars are installed at the top surface of concrete panel for composite action between precast concrete panel and cast-in-place concrete. In order to evaluate the safety and the serviceability of the developed short-span concrete panel subjected to design load, static load test is conducted. Three test panels with span length of 1.6m are fabricated, and during the load test displacements, strains and cracks of test panels are measured and final failure modes are investigated. Serviceability of the test panels is evaluated based on the results of displacements, cracking load, and crack width at the design load level. Safety is also evaluated based on the comparison of the ultimate strength and the factored design load of test panels. Based on the test results, it is confirmed the short-span precast concrete panel satisfies the serviceability and safety regulated in design codes. In addition, the range of span length of concrete bridge decks for the short-span concrete panel is discussed.

Double-leaf blast-resistant doors consisting of steel box and slab are application-specific structures installed at the entrances of protective facilities. In these structural systems, certain spacing is provided between the door and wall. However, variation in the boundary condition and structural behavior due to this spacing are not properly considered in the explosion analysis and design. In this study, the structural response and failure behavior based on two variables such as the spacing and blast pressure were analyzed using the finite element method. The results revealed that the two variables affected the overall structural behavior such as the maximum and permanent deflections. The degree of contact due to collision between the door and wall and the impact force applied to the door varied according to the spacing. Hence, the shear-failure behavior of the concrete slab was affected by this impact force. Doors with spacing of less than 10 mm were vulnerable to shear failure, and the case of approximately 15-mm spacing was more reasonable for increasing the flexural performance. For further study, tests and numerical research on the structural behavior are needed by considering other variables such as specifications of the structural members and details of the slab shear design.
LB-DECK, a precast concrete panel type, is a permanent concrete deck form used as a formwork for cast-in-place concrete pouring at bridge construction site. LB-DECK consists of 60 mm thick concrete slab and 125 mm height Lattice-girders partly embedded in the concrete slab. These decks have been applied to the bridges, which girder spacings are short enough to resist longitudinal cracking caused by construction loads. This paper presents experimental research work conducted to evaluate the cracking load of LB-DECKs designed for long span bridge decks. Twenty four non-composite beams and four composite beams are fabricated considering three design variables of thickness of concrete slab, height of lattice-girder, and diameter of top-bar. Static loads controlled by displacements are applied to test beams to obtain cracking and ultimate loads. Vertical displacements at the center of beams, strains of top-bar, crack propagation in concrete slab, and final failure modes are carefully monitored. The obtained cracking loads are compared to the analytical results obtained by elastic analyses. Long-term analyses using age-adjusted effective modulus method (AEMM) are also conducted to investigate the effects of concrete shrinkage on the cracking loads. Based on the test results, the tensile strength and the design details of LB-DECKs are discussed to prevent longitudinal cracking of long span bridge decks.
