  • Demersal fishery resources were collected by an otter trawl in May, August and November 1996 at 9 stations off Youngkwang. And they were compared with the data obtained by a stow net, Of 73 species identified, assemblages were consisted of $63.0\%$ in fish, $14\%$ in shrimps, $14\%$ in crabs, $5\%$ in cephalopods and $3\%$ in gastropods. Johnius grypotus, Palaemon gravieri, Crangon hakodatei, Cynoglossus joyneri, Collichthys niveatus predominated in abundance, consisting of $64.4\%$ in the number of individuals. Catch by an otter trawl consisted mainly of demersal fishery resources, while catch by a stow net consisted mainly of pelagic fishery resources.

  • This research was performed to establish basic technology for Chinese cabbage clubroot chemical control by investigating the soil contamination of Plasmodiophora brassicae in major producing regions of fall Chinese cabbage. PCR primers were developed to detect P. brassicae, a causal agent of Chinese cabbage club-root that generally occurs in Cruciferae family. A primer set, PbbtgF761 and PbbtgR961, specifically amplified a 245 bp fragment from P. brassicae only. At places well known for fall Chinese cabbage, 10 out of 33 in Haenam-gun, 5 out of 13 in Yeongam-gun and Yeonggwang-gun, 1 out of 6 in Gochang-gun, 2 out of 12 in Hongseong-gun, and 5 out of 17 in Dangjin-si resulted positive for P. brassicae contamination. The results show that the soil contamination rate of P. brassicae was 30.3% in Haenam-gun, 38.5% in Yeongam-gun and Yeonggwang-gun, 16.7% in Gochang-gun, 16.7% in Hongseong-gun, and 29.4% in Dangjin-si. The six places where Chinese cabbage clubroot was visible by naked eye were 100% confirmed by the PCR test of the P. brassicae contaminated soil. Thus, simple PCR test may be utilized as an index to decide on chemical control of P. brassicae.

  • The rapid increase of naturalized plants causes disturbance of the ecosystem. The purpose of this study is to identify the reality of naturalized flora in Jeolla-do. A total of 830 sites were studied in 2016. These naturalized plants consisted of 189 taxa in total, belonging to 38 families, 116 genera, 181 species, 2 forms and 6 varieties. According to the results of the analysis based on place of origin, 75 taxa were from Europe, and 59 taxa were from North America. According to the analysis of the ecological characteristics, compositae had the highest diversity among 31 families, with 44 taxa, followed by Gramineae, with 24 taxa, and Leguminosae, with 10 taxa. Naju-si had the highest diversity among 36 counties, with 77 taxa. This study identified 37 (Jeollanam-do) and 30 taxa (Jeollabuk-do) not listed in the preceding literature in Jeolla-do. We found a lots of differences between flora's databases of previous studies resulting from the naturalized plant definition.

  • The coastal alluvial plain, sand dune, tidal nat might be the most prominent coastal landscape in western coast of Korea. The purpose of this paper is to examine the irrigation and drainage systems of the alluvial plain in the tidal coast. This study is concerned on the geomorphological and cultural landscapes of the alluvial plain in the western coast of the South Jeolla Province. The alluvial deposits have developed mainly by the actions of tidal currents, rather than transporting sediments by stream. The transformation of plain has been affected by human agency since 1920's. Dwellers have constructed the reservoir, banks, dammed pools, lock gates, and tide-dykes for the reclamation, irrigation, and drainage on the alluvial plain, coastal sanddune, and tidal flats.
