  • To determine variations in leaflet length (LL), leaflet width (LW), leaflet size (LS), and leaflet shape index (LSI), and their association with eight agronomic traits, characterization data of 884 soybean accessions which were grown in the autumn of 1992 in Taiwan were analyzed. LL ranged from 4.3 to 14.7 cm, and LW ranged from 2.8 to 9.7 cm. Also, LS (LL $\times$ LW) ranged from 12.1 to 124.6 $\textrm{cm}^2$. The absolute variation of LL, LW, and LS was not large because of limitation in vegetative growth by short day length. None was classified as a large leaflet based on the International Board for Plant Genetic Resources (IBPGR) descriptors. LSI (LL /LW) ranged from 1.21 to 3.06, and three accessions were classified as narrow leaflet. There were differences in ranges and means of LL, LW, LS, and LSI between and within temperate and tropical accessions. LL, LW, LS, and LSI had highly significant positive correlations with seven agronomic traits and highly significant negative correlation with 100-seed weight except LW for all accessions. There was variation in the closeness of association among leaflet traits, and between and within temperate and tropical accessions. Generally, LL, LW, and LS were more closely associated with days to flowering, plant height at $R_1$ and $R_8$, number of pods per plant; LSI was more closely associated with 100-seed weight than other traits.

  • Studies wre made to investigate the relationships obetween measurable characters of leaf tobacco such as stem length, stem daimeter, number of leaves, leaf length, leaf thickness, leaf area of biggest leaf and the dry Iield. The results are summarized as follows; n the flue cured yellow tobacco; leaf width and leaf area of biggest leaf were significantly correlated to the yield. In the light air cure type of tobacco; stem diamer, leaf width and leaf area of biggest leaf were significantly correlated to the yield. In the dark air cured type of tobacco; stem diameter, number of leaves, leaf length, leaf width, and leaf area of biggest leaf were significantly correlated to the yield. It would be noticiable that the yield was significantly correlated to the leaf width which is easily measurable in the field, and negatively correlated to the leaf thickness though not significantly.

  • Leaf area and its relationships with other important agronomic traits were investigated with 727 lines of Korean local soybeans. Distributions of the leaf area, length, leaf width and LAI of the lines were shown in normal curves. Leaf area was positively associated with leaf length, and width, plant height, and seed size. Leaf form is rather affected by leaf width than leaf length.

  • Eight characters namely stalk length of trifoliate, stalk length of terminal leaflets, length of terminal leaflets, width of terminal leaflets, area of terminal leaflets, length of laternalleaflets, width of laternal leaflets, area of laternal leaflets in leaf parts of soybeans were measured to estimate the heritability values in percentage and relationships between those characters. Five parents and six different $_{x}\textrm{F}_2 generations and two backcross generations were used as the materials. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. Eight quantitative characters were differ from varieties. and hybrids from different cross combinations. 2. Heritability values of stalk length were showed the lowest, values of leaf length were lower than those of leaf width in both of main leaflets and laternal leaflets, and other values of leaf area in main and laternal leaflets were showed the highest values. 3. It was also recognized that there were close relationships between leaf length and leaf area, leaf width and leaf area in main leaflets and laternal leaflets, and area of main leaflets and laternal leaflets. There was, however, no any relationship between stalk length and other characters, and between length and width of main leaflets and laternal leaflets.

  • Morphological characteristics of leaves of 10 natural populations of Quercus mongolica and 9 natural populations of Q. serrata were investigated to study inter-population and intra-population variability as well as interspecies variability. Five leaf form indices, blade length/max. blade width, blade length/petiole length, blade length/vein number, upper 1/3 blade width/max.blade width, upper 1/3 blade width/lower 1/3 blade width, as well as petiole length and vein number were included in the present study of Leaf variabilities of the Quercus population. All of the investigated leaf variabilities except for the case of blade length/petiole length, in Q. serrata indicated highly significant differences among the populations and among the individual trees within population. Both of Q. mongolica and Q. serrata represented different leaf forms between southern populations and northern populations in the indices of blade length/max. blade width, blade length/petiole length and blade length/vein number, and so the leaf forms of northern populations were more similar to the unique characters of Q. mongolica and those of southern populations were more similar to the unique characters of Q. serrata. The variability among individual trees within population was more notable in blade length/petiole length, and petiole length than in other leaf form indices, and also it was more obvious for Mt. Kyeryrong population located in middle part of the country than for other population.

  • Ninety-four collections of domestic ginger were evaluated for plant hight, leaf number, stem number, leaf length and width, rhizome yield per plant revealed good variability in stem number and rhizome yield per plant. Moderate variation was observed in plant hight, leaf number, leaf length, leaf width and stem diameter. Rhizome yield per plant was positively correlated with six characters, and leaf number, plant height and stem diameter were positive significant correlation with rhizome yield per plant. Path coefficient analysis indicated that stem number, followed by leaf number, stem diameter, had maximum direct effects on rhizome yield per plant. Maximum indirect effect was observed in case of plant height through leaf number. The indirect effects of leaf length and leaf width through leaf number, and plant height, leaf length and leaf width through stem diameter were also observed. From the selection point of view, the characters like plant height, stem number and leaf number per clump may be considered suitable in choosing a good genotype.

  • The purposes of this dissertation were to examine relativity between growth characteristics factors and develop the model of growth characteristics. In the result of statistical summaries of the factors in growth characteristic, the highest level of correlation was in plant height, plant width, petiole and chlorophyll in the case of Artemisia iwayomogi; leaf length, in the case of A. stolonifera;, leaf width, of A. princeps var. orientalis;, diameter, of A. feddei;, leaf thickness, of A. iwayomogi, A. princeps var. orientalis, A. montana, A. stolonifera, A. sylnatica; leaf length and leaf width of the other species. In the case of correlation analysis, leaf width and diameter were most correlative in A. capillaris;, plant height and plant width, in A. montana; plant height and leaf width, in A. stolonifera; leaf length and leaf width, in other species. The results of model analysis of growth characteristics were as follows. A. capillaris proved to be about $79.4\%$ effective ; A. princeps var. orientalis, about $91.7\%$ ; A. montana, about $70.3\%$ ; A. iwayomogi, about $49.0\%$ ; A. stolonifera, about $72.5\%$; A. sylnatica, about $75.0\%$;, A. feddei about $60.4\%$ ; A. rubripes about $54.0\%$.
