Effect of a Mouthwash Containing Cetylpyridinium and Zinc Chloride on Oral Malodor (세틸피리디늄(Cetylpyridinium) 및 염화아연(Zinc chloride)을 함유한 구강 양치액의 구취제거 효과에 대한 연구)

  • The aim of this study is to clinically evaluate the effect of a mouthwash containing cetylpyridinium and zinc chloride on reduction of morning oral malodor in healthy subjects measured by organoleptic measurement and a portable sulfide monitor. A total of 8 healthy non-smoking male volunteers were enrolled in this study of crossover design consisting of two experimental phases. The subjects were instructed to rinse the mouth with 10 mL of the experimental mouthwash containing cetylpyridinium and zinc chloride for 30 seconds at the first phase. At the second phase after a one-week washout period, each subject rinsed with distilled water as a control. All experiments were conducted at around 8:30 a.m. and oral malodor was measured using organoleptic measurement and a portable sulfide monitor just before rinsing with the experimental mouthwash or control (baseline), 1 hr, 2 hrs, and 3 hrs after rinsing. The mouthwash containing cetylpyridinium and zinc chloride reduced morning oral malodor up to 3 hrs after rinsing. Organoleptic score and concentrations of volatile sulfur compounds after use of the experimental mouthwash significantly decreased with time, and the decreases were significantly different between the mouthwash and control. In conclusion, the mouthwash containing cetylpyridinium and zinc chloride is significantly effective on reduction of morning oral malodor in healthy subjects by 3 hrs.

Evaporation of Volatile Chlorinated Hydrocarbons in Soils (토양의 휘발성 염화 탄화수소 화합물 증발)

  • Evaporation of selected toxic volatile chlorinated hydrocarbons was studied in laboratory soil columns. The evaporation values were obtained for the ten volatile chlorinated hydrocarbons at two different temperatures ($12^{\circ}C$ and $21^{\circ}C$) from columns filled with silty clay loam and sandy loam soils. 1,1,1-Trichloroethane, trichloroethylene and chloroform evaporated considerably (36.7~54.6% removal), carbon tetrachloride, 1,2-dichlorobenzene, tetrachloroethylene, 1,3-dichlorobenzene, dichlorobromethane and dibromochloromethane to a lesser extent (15.3~39.3% removal), and bromoform evaporated poorly (<10 percent removal) at both temperature. Volatile chlorinated hydrocarbons concentration did not affect evaporation, no statistically significant difference in evaporation between the soil types was found. However, temperature affected evaporation, the effect of concentration on the evaporation was not conclusive.

  • Purification on the leaching solution of the crude zinc oxide obtained by the reduction of EAF dust has been carried out. Pb and Cd ions in the leaching solution were precipitated and removed from the solution by the addition of zinc metal powder. The purification condition for electrowinning to obtain the high purity zinc metal was investigated by analyzing the effects of Pb and Cd ion concentrations on the contents of impurities in the recovered zinc metal. The 3 N purity zinc metal was obtained at the electrolysis condition of the concentrations of Pb less than 2 ppm and Cd less than 0.1 ppm in the purified solution. For this purification, the amounts of zinc metal powder more than 8.5 g/l should be added in the crude zinc oxide leached solution.

  • Biofiltration of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) was performed for 80 days in a biofilter packed with peat. The empty bed residence time was 3.2 min. for a gas mixture of isoprene, dimethyl sulfide, chloroform. benzene, trichlorethylene, toluene, m0xylene, o-xylene and styrene. After 34 days of acclimatization the removal efficiency for a 83 g/㎥ gas input was 93% at $25^{circ}C$ and 73% at $45^{circ}C$, respectively. The maximum cell density at $25^{circ}C$ was 1.12$\times$10(sup)8 cells/g. Removal efficiencies of m-xylene and toluene (91%) were better than that of benzene (86%). The first quarter of the packed column removed 60% of the incoming VOCs.

Change of Nonvolatile Amines During Fermentation of Anchovy (멸치젓 숙성중 불휘발성아민의 함량 변화)

  • The present work was to study the changes of nonvolatile amines and microorganism in fermentation of anchovy during 12 weeks with addition of various concentration of sodium chloride. Changes of histamine occured significantly during fermentation of anchovy with 10, IS, 20% salt and 10% mixed salts (5.0% NaCl+5.0% KCl). A maximum histamine content was observed in anchovy fermented for 6 weeks while the change of histamine content was not with addition of 20% sodium chloride. Tyramine was found at highest contents in the fermented anchovy of 10% mixed salts and increased markedly in all anchovy fermented for 8 weeks. Cadaverine content was higher in fermented for all fermentation periods than in raw. During fermentation cadaverine contents increased significantly in fermented with 10% mixed salts. In contrast with that, fermented anchovy with 20% sodium chloride had very low those content and high sodium chloride concentration had influenced on amine formation. Although the highest content of putrescine was observed in fermented for 8 weeks, those content was not changed significantly during fermantation. The growth of Microflora, Achromobacter, Aeromonas and Pseudomonas were found in the in itial fermantation and Micrococus, Pediococcus, Lactobacillus and Saccharomyces were found during all fermentation periods.

매립장 침출수에 의한 오염지하수 정화 방법 연구

  • 매립장 침출수로 인해 오염된 매립장 주변 지하수 정화를 위한 실내실험을 실시하였다. 오염물로는 대표적 염화용제인 TCE와 PCE, 그리고 중금속인 As, Cd, Cr, Pb에 대하여 Air-sparging, 오존 산화법, 화학적 처리방법에 의한 정화효율 실험을 실시하였다. Air-sparging은 TCE, PCE에서 높은 제거효율을 가졌으며, 오존 산화법은 Cr, Pb에서 제거 효율이 좋았다. 반응제를 첨가한 공침방법의 경우, 모든 중금속에 대하여 소석회 첨가시 매우 높은 제거효율을 보였으며, As는 황산제일철에서, Cd, Cr, Pb는 탄산칼슘과 제올라이트 첨가시 높은 제거효율을 나타내었다. 실험결과로부터, 유기오염물과 중금속이 혼합되어 나타나는 매립장 주변 오염 지하수의 경우 휘발성 유기오염물의 제거를 위해서는 폭기방법이, 중금속의 경우에는 공침방법에 의해 수산화물, 탄산염으로 만들어 고형물로 처리하는 방법이 제거효과가 좋은 것으로 나타났다.

  • A study on the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and low molecular weight (LMW) amount which is contained within bisphenol A polycarbonate (PC) was performed by the solvent extraction with ketone type solvents (acetone, butanone, pentanone). The LMW amount of untreated PC was 2.6 wt%, but the values of treated samples with acetone and pentanone were 0.96 and 1.53 wt%, respectively. Acetone is a more effective solvent than pentanone on the LMW extraction. Methylene chloride (MC) and toluene were certified and quantified by GC-Mass experiments, and the quantitative results indicated the fact that the pentanone was the effective solvent on VOC extraction. Focused on the change of VOCs and LMW amount, the use of co-solvent might be more useful, and the experimental results of co-solvent extraction showed that the optimum condition was 50 : 50 volume percent.

The Analysis of Ethanol Distribution Level in Biological Specimens (생체 시료중에서 Ethanol 농도 분포에 관한 연구)

  • Five kinds of packed column and two kinds of capillary column were used to get optimum condition for ethanol analysis by using fifteen different volatile, low molecular weight organic substances. Only two columns, Gaskuropack 54 and DB-1, showed good separation efficiency. In the adding salt-effect experiment 0.6N - perchloric acid, 1M - meta-phosphoric acid and saturated NaCl solution were used for alcohol concentration measurement of biological fluids and tissue specimens. Among adding salt experiment, adding saturated NaCl solution showed the most stable value of alcohol concentration. This fact might be due to the increased vaporization of alcohol in the saturated NaCl solution. In the time-course of blood alcohol concentration, the alcohol level was lineary decreased to the diameter of vessel containing specimens. This result was interpreted in view of ethanol level, weight, water content, and hematocrit value. The ethanol distribution levels were measured from samples of blood and tissue obtained from 25 postmortems cases investigated by NISI. This study showed that the distribution level was decreased in order of brain, blood, kidney, spleen, liver, and lung.
