Effects of Temperature and Salinity on the Growth and Paralytic Shellfish Toxin (PST) Production by Toxic Dinoflagellate Alexandrium pacificum (유독 와편모조류 Alexandrium pacificum의 생장과 마비성 패독 생산에 미치는 수온과 염분의 영향)

  • Growth rate and production of the paralytic shellfish poisoning toxin (PST) of a toxic dinoflagellate Alexandrium pacificum (LIMS-PS-2611) isolated from the southern sea of Korea, were examined under various temperatures and salinity conditions. The maximum growth rate (0.28 day-1) was observed under 25℃ and 30 psu. Optimal growth (≥ 70% of maximum growth rate) was obtained between 20~25℃ and 25~35 psu. Among the PSTs of A. pacificum, the principal toxins were C1+2 and GTX5 in N-sulfocarbamoyl toxin group, and minor components were characterized as neoSTXs in the carbamate toxin group. Maximum toxin content was observed under 20℃ and 30 psu, and the toxin content increased with the increase of salinity. Low toxin contents were measured under the temperature and salinity conditions of the maximum growth rate. Therefore, the PSP of bivalve, which occurs at a temperature range of 20-25℃ in June, might have been derived from A. pacificum.

  • This paper is concerned with the actual comparison analysis for the freshening process in the two selected experimental reservoirs. At the deep freshening reservoir, the salinity and depth of the freshwater layer were estimated by simulation technique using the quantitative equation for the two-layered flow structures. First of all, it is shown that the effects of underdrainage conduit in the lower layer were reported more effective for the control of upper layer salinity comparing with the case of no underdrainage conduit. Further the results of computation were later compared with the real observed values and the relating parameters of the salt-balance equation are conformed even though approximately. Finally it was represented that the salinity of upper layer is easily diluted not only by the tidal gate but also by the underdrainge conduit in the lower layer of the freshening reservoir.

  • The amount of surface chlorides of architectural structure in incoming salt environment depends on the characteristics of distribution of incoming salt in atmosphere. Therefore, many researches are being conducted on deducting the correlation between incoming salt amount attached to the surface of real structure and that of atmosphere after quantitative measurement. However, in real environment, these studies are somewhat far fetched. That is because incoming salt in atmosphere are changed by various climatic conditions and in the case of the structures surface, attached incoming salt may be carried away due to the rainfall. Therefore, this study aims to draw an improved proportional relation between the amount of sodium chloride in atmosphere and that attached to the surface of architectural structures by measuring the amount attached to each architectural material using artificial incoming salt generator that can control various climatic variables that can be caused in real environment.

Hourly Change of Temperature and Salinity in the Korea Strait (대한해협의 수온 및 염분의 시간적 변동)

  • The observations of hourly change of salinity and temperature were made in the Korea Strait from August 1968 to July 1969. The largest hourly change of salinity and temperature was shown in August and the smallest in April. The range of hourly change of temperature (5.67-15.75$^{\circ}C$ on the depth of 125m) and salinity (32.1-34.3 on 20m layer) were significantly wide in August. These changes are correlated with the movement of water masses vertically and horizontally caused by changing direction and force of the current.

Temporal and Spatial Distributions of Basic Water Quality in the Upper Regions of Brackish Lake Sihwa with a Limited Water Exchange (물 교환이 제한적인 시화호 상류 기수역에서 기초수질의 시공간적 분포특성)

  • Temporal and spatial distributions of salinity, temperature, dissolved oxygen (DO), and turbidity were investigated at seven sites in the upper regions of brackish Lake Sihwa with a limited water exchange, from March to October 2005. During the study period, salinity and temperature varied $0.1{\sim}29.9\;psu$ and $4.7{\sim}28.1^{\circ}C$, respectively, depending on seasons and sites sampled. A distinct halocline profile showing the maximum density gradient (difference over $20\;psu\;m^{-1}$ between surface and bottom layers) was observed during the rainy season, due to the decrease of salinity in surface layers by freshwater inflow. This result implies that rainfall event is the important factor forming the halocline. On the other hand, the depth and location of haloeline varied with the amount of seawater through the sluice gates and the operation systems (inflow or outflow). High DO (over 300% saturation) was observed at surface layer above the halocline in April when red tide occurred, whereas low DO (below 20% saturation) was at the bottom layer below the halocline in the rainy season. Turbidity ranged $1.5{\sim}80.3\;NTU$ showing the maximum turbidity at the layers above or upper the halocline. As a result, the distributions of DO and turbidity in the upper regions of brackish Lake Sihwa were largely affected by the variation of salinity. Also, when the halocline was formed, the water quality between upper and lower water layers may be expected completely different. This study suggests that the physicochemical characteristics of water in the brackish regions are closely associated with the causes of eutrophication such as red tide and DO deficit.

한국 남해의 해황과 영양염 분포의 격월 변화

  • 한국 남해안에서 2005년 10월부터 2006년 8월까지 격월별로 관측된 CTD 자료 및 분석된 영양염 자료를 가지고 격월별 해황 및 영양염의 분포를 살펴 보았다. 겨울철에는 표층과 저층간의 수직 혼합으로 일정한 수괴 분포 및 수온과 염분에 대해서 일정한 영양염 분포를 나타내었다. 그리고 연안역과 외양역 사이에 수온 전선이 뚜렷하였다. 그러나 여름철에는 양자강 저염수의 유입으로 T-S상에서 수형의 분포 범위가 넓었으며, 또한 수온과 염분에 대한 영양염의 분포도 일정하지 않았다. 그리고 여름철에는 저염수 유입에 의해서 수온 전선보다는 염분 전선이 뚜렷하였다. 봄과 가을에는 계절적 천이기로 수온과 염분의 분포에서 뚜렷한 pattern을 보이지 않았다.

남해 연수연안의 거머리말 해초지 식물플랑크톤의 분포 특징

  • 해초지와 해초가 없는 수괴에서 식물플랑크톤의 군집 특성을 비교 분석하기 위하여 해황과 해초지의 규모가 다른 가막만의 원포연안과 여자만의 백일도 주변 해역에서 식물플랑크톤을 채집하고, 수온, 염분, 용존산소, Chlorophyll a와 영양염을 2006년 2월부터 8월까지 조사하였다. 조사 기간동안 해초의 유무에 따른 수온과 염분의 차이는 보이지 않았으나, 용존산소, Chlorophyll a와 영양염 농도는 유의한 차이를 보였다. 또한 거머리말 해초지와 조사 시기에 따른 수온, 염분, 용존산소, Chlorophyll a와 영양염 농도도 유의한 차이를 보였다. 그리고, 원포의 수온은 백일도보다 낮았으나, 염분은 유의하게 높았다. 식물플랑크톤의 현존량과 종조성은 조사 시기에 따라 차이를 보였으며, 현존량은 해초지에서 낮게 나타났다.

  • 본 연구는 우리나라 4대강 중에서 국내유일의 조석/파랑 혼합 삼각주 형태의 하구인 낙동강 하구둑을 대상으로 효율적인 수문운영을 통해 해역에 지속적으로 담수를 공급하여 기수역을 확보할 수 있는 방안을 모색하고자 하구둑 수위조정에 따른 수질 및 염분도 변화에 대하여 분석하였다. 그 결과 수위의 상향조정으로 인하여 수문개방 확률을 95% 이상 증가 시킬 수 있는 것으로 분석되었고, 상시 방류를 통하여 자연 상태에 가까운 하구 생태환경의 조성이 가능할 것으로 기대된다.

  • 중수숭급기 충진재의 부식원인인 염분 유입 및 열분해로 인한 산화물 형성 과정 조사를 위해 zeolite 의 열분해 및 염분 유입을 조사하였다. 그리고 원자력 발소의 dryer 모사 장치를 만들어 열분해 특성 조사 실험을 하였다. zeolite 열분해 특성 조사 결과 zeolite에 고온의 증기를 통과시키면 가수분해가 일어나 구조가 바뀌게 되며, $500\~700^{\circ}C$에서 완전히 열분해 된다. 그리고 열분해가 일어난 zeolite에 염분이 유입되면, zeolite의 $H^+$와 염분의 $Na^+$ 가 자리바꿈을 하게 되고, 수중에 $H^+$$Cl^-$ 가 존재하여 HCl이 형성될 것으로 조사되었고, 실험 결과 pH가 4.5, 4.53, 4.72, 4.64, 4.86, 5.03, 4.61로 낮게 측정되었다.
