  • We identified pyrolysis condition, effect of catalyzer and pyrolysis mechanism through contact decomposed method by adding Bentonite in waste plastic of hospital solid waste. The result from this study were summarized as the followings: 1. The optimum fuel oil were obtained when hospital wasted plastic (P.P) and Bentonite were mixed in the ratio of 30:1. 2. Maximum absorption wave of hospital wasted plastic (P.P) appeared at 2900cm$^{-1}$, 1480cm$^{-1}$, 1360cm$^{-1}$ and 1180 cm$^{-1}$ by FT-IR and the plastics were identified and confirmed. 3. Reaction temperature of hospital wasted plastic started at 360$\circ$C, proceed rapidly at 437.5$\circ$C and finished at 481$\circ$C. The residue was 0.729%. When bentonire was added started at 318$\circ$C, proceed rapidly at 399.5$\circ$C and finished at 449.3$\circ$C, the residue being 4.23%. 4. Pyrolysis products of hospital wasted plastic were about 90 kinds. The Main components were 2-Heptene-3-ethyl-4-trimethyl (27.4%), 1-Heptene-2-isobutyl-6-methyl (8.6%) and 1-Heptene decene (7.7%). There was little component difference at different temperature. This is the result from stability of decomposition product. 5. Pyrolysis efficiency increased by the addition Bentonire. 6. Some of the Environmental and Sanitary problems could be solved by the pyrolysis of hospital wasted plastic and the decomposed products were to be used as fuel oil.

  • The thermal decomposition rate of ammonium perchlorate with 3% of yellow iron oxide, FeOOH was found to be much faster than with red iron oxide, $Fe_2O_3$. By applying yellow and red iron oxide as a burning rate modifier to HTPB/AP propellant, burning rate of the HTPB/AP propellant with yellow iron oxide was shown to be 10 ~ 25% faster than with red iron oxide. There was no special difference in viscosity and hardness buildup of yellow and red oxide added HTPB/AP formulations.

  • The rate constants of hydrolysis of phenyl-N-benzoylchlorothioformimidates were determined by UV spectrophotometry in 30% (v/v) aqueous dioxane at $25^{\circ}C$. On the basis of rate equation, general base catalysis, solvent effect, substituent effect, thermodynamic parameters, frontier orbital interaction and hydrolysis product analysis, it may be concluded that the hydrolysis of phenyl-N-benzoylchlorothioformimidates proceeds through $S_N1$ mechanism via azocarbocation intermidiate below pH 10.0, while above pH 10.00 the hydrolysis proceeds through nucleophilic addition-elimination ($Ad_{N-E}$) mechanism. In the range of pH from 10.0 to 11.0 these two reaction occur competitively.

  • Generally, there are three ways to remove VOCs from the small painting booth; adsorption, burn and oxidation catalyst. RTO and RCO are high efficiency methods for removing VOCs. But they require large installation areas, which are not suitable for the small painting booth. And we need a new removing method because it is difficult to predict the A/C changing time and the recycle time. To solve these problems, we have developed the Arc plasma system which is simple and enable consecutive-use. It removes VOCs effectively and eco-friendly. In this study we have investigated the enrichment material and VOCs removal efficiency.

  • The liquefactions of $\alpha$-cellulose(Sigma Chemical, C-8002, 47H0383) was prepared in the presence of phenol using sulfuric acid as a catalyst under $N_2$ gas protection at $180^{\circ}C$ for 60minutes to examine its components. The ratio of $\alpha$-cellulose to phenol was 1: 6.2(w/w), and that to sulfuric acid was 1: 0.05(g/$m\ell$). The yields of liquefaction were calculated after the liquefied mixtures were passed through 1G4 glass filter. The luquefied product of $\alpha$-cellulose was analyzed using GC-MS Spectormeter. The 12 compounds identified by GC-MS Spectrometer, of which peak area covers 54% as 2,4-dimethyl phenol, p-isopropyl phenol, 1-ethyl-3,5-dimethyl benzene, o-isopropyl phenol, (E)-2,4\` dihydroxy-stilbene, 2,2\`-methylene-bisphenol, 4,4\`-methylenebisphenol, 3-methyl-2-hydroxyphenyl-(E)-2-hydroxyl-4\`-methoxy-stilbene, 1-phyenyl-1-(4\`hydroxyphenyl)methanol phenol derivatives. From this results, the reaction pathways of the liquefaction of cellulose were proposed through electrophilic substitution reaction. Phenol as a solvent might react with the reaction intermediates as well in the cellulose liquefaction.

  • Oil shale is a sedimentary rock that contains organic compounds called kerogen that are released as petroleum-like liquids by retorting. In order to evalute oil shale as alternative oil resources, the physical properties of oil shale samples from US and Russia were investigated and Fischer assays were carried out. Thermogravimetric analysis shows that thermal degradation of oil shale consisted of two stage processes, with hydrocarbon release from kerogen followed by $CO_2$ release by carbonate decomposition. Organic compounds in oil shale have an high hydrogen/carbon ratio, and therefore liquid hydrocarbons could be obtained easily. Shale oil yields from Russian and US oil shales by Fischer assay were 12.7% and 18.5%, respectively. The density and boiling point of shale oils are higher than that of Middle East crude oil, indicating that further upgrading processes are necessary for refinery. On the other hands, sulfur contents are relatively low, and the amounts of Vanadium and Nickel are extremely small in shale oil. It was found that paraffins were rich in US shale oil while main components of Russian shale oil were oxygenated hydrocarbons.

  • During the last few decades, toxic chemicals used in various industries have caused global pollution and the side products such as carbon dioxide and methane gas have contributed to global warming. Thus, it is desirable to develop new alternative solvents. It is well known that ionic liquids display a variety of environmentally friendly physical properties: nonvolatile, nonflammable, wide electrochemical windows, high inherent conductivities, wide thermal operating ranges, chemically inert, and limited miscibilities with organic solvents. Because of these characteristics, ionic liquids are promising candidates as solvents for synthetic chemistries, catalysis, and gas separations. In this study, we synthesized morpholiunium salts as N-ethyl-N-methylmorpholine Bromide, N-butyl-N-methylmorpholine Bromide, N-octyl-N-methylmorpholine Bromide, N-ethyl-N-methylmorpholine Tetrafluoroborate, N-butyl-N-methylmorpholine Tetrafluoroborate, N-octyl-N-methylmorpholine Tetrafluoroborate, N-ethyl-N-methylmorpholine Hexafluorophosphate, N-butyl-N-methylmorpholine Hexafluorophosphate, and N-octyl-N-methylmorpholine Hexafluorophosphate. The melting points, decomposition temperatures and electrochemical stabilities of the salts were measured by DSC, TGA, and CV, respectively. The salts with halide anion showed high melting points ($150{\sim}200^{\circ}C$), low decomposition temperatures ($200{\sim}230^{\circ}C$), narrow electrochemical stabilities (3.4~3.6 V). The synthesized salts with inorganic anions, on the other hand, presented low melting point ($50{\sim}110^{\circ}C$), high decomposition temperatures ($250{\sim}380^{\circ}C$), wide electrochemical stabilities (6.1~6.3 V). We also found that the properties depend on the length of the carbon chain.

  • Nanocomposites based on epoxy acid nanoclay were prepared employing organically modified mica type silicate (OMTS), diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) type epoxy. curing agent (dicyandiamide; DICY), and catalyst (benzyl dimethyl amine; BDMA). Both melt mixing and solution mixing were und for the sample preparation and structural developments with curing reaction were analyzed using X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). Because of the different curing rate between extra-gallery and intra-gallery reactions of epoxy mixtures, only intercalated structure was observed for the sample prepared by melt mixing while fully exfoliated structure was observed for the sample prepared by solution mixing. Mechanical properties of exfoliated epoxy nanocomposite were investigated using a dynamic mechanical analyzer (DMA). The dynamic storage modulus of the nanocomposite in both glass and rubbery plateau regions were increased with increasing OMTS contents, but glass transition temperatures ($T_g$) remained unchanged. Thermal properties of epoxy nanocomposite were investigated using thermogravimetric (TGA) and limit oxygen index (LOI) methods. Thermal decomposition onset points and LOI values were increased with increasing OMTS contents due to barrier effects of OMTS sheets.

  • High-quality double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNTs) were synthesized by catalytic decomposition method at $800^{\circ}C$ using Tetrahydrofuran. The as-synthesized DWCNTs typically have catalytic impurities and amorphous carbon, which were removed by two-step purification process, consisting of thermal oxidation and H2O2, HNO3, HCl treatment. The DWCNT suspension was prepared by dispersing the purified DWCNTs in an aqueous sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate solution with horn-type sonication. This was then sprayed on ITO glass to fabricate CNT field emitters. The quality of purified DWCNTs was estimated with X-ray diffraction and Thermal Gravity Analysis. The field emission properties were improved by increasing the process time of HCl treatment.
