Fracture Mechanical Study on the Charpy V-notch and Fatigue Crack Propagation 8ehavior of Rail Steels (레일강의 샬피거동 및 피로균열 성장거동에 관한 파괴역학적 고찰)

  • Since fatigue cracks in rail can be the source of fractures and subsequent derailments, quantitative evaluation of the fatigue behavior and fracture properities due to the analysis results of laboratory test are drawn on the basis for predicting fatigue life and making a decision of safe inspection interval. Charpy V-notch and fracture toughness behavior were evaluated from the results of Charpy impact test. Fatigue test was performed by using CT type specimen under constant amplitude loading, and finally the effects of the following parameters; crack orientation, temperature, and stress ratio, on the fatigue crack growth behavior were studied.

  • 최근 철도는 다양한 분야에서 사용됨에 따라 그 중요성이 점차 증가하고 있다. 따라서 철도의 안전한 주행을 위하여 철도를 구성하는 요소 관리 역시 중요하다. 철도를 구성하는 요소 중 열차의 진행 방향을 결정하는 선로전환기의 비정상 상황 탐지는 열차의 탈선 등과 같은 대형 사고를 예방하기 위해 매우 중요한 문제이다. 본 논문에서는 Fast Shapelets 알고리즘을 이용하여 선로전환기의 전류 패턴을 분류할 수 있는 방법을 제안한다. 실험 결과, Fast Shapelets 알고리즘을 이용하여 선로전환기의 전류 패턴들을 자동으로 분류할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

  • 열차의 진로를 변경시키는 선로전환기의 고장은 탈선 등과 같은 대형 사고를 유발시킬 수 있는 중요한 시설이다. 따라서 열차운행 안전 측면에서 해당 설비에 대한 모니터링은 필수적이다. 본 논문에서는 선로전환기의 구동 시 발생하는 소리 정보를 이용하여 선로전환기의 이상상황을 탐지하는 시스템을 제안한다. 먼저 제안한 시스템은 소리 센서에서 실시간으로 취득하는 소리 신호를 Power Spectral Density(PSD) 특징으로 변환한다. 추출된 PSD 특징은 이미 성능이 입증된 딥러닝의 대표적인 모델인 Convolutional Neural Network(CNN)에 적용하여 이상상황을 탐지한다. 실제 선로전환기의 전환 시 발생하는 소리 데이터를 취득하여 모의실험을 수행한 결과, 비정상 상황을 안정적으로 탐지함을 확인하였다.

  • To change rail tracks from main track to another track, it needs a device that is called the turnout point. If the point which is composed of accurate parts and complex sensors does not work, And also, serious problems will be arisen. However, there are serious problems by the failure of the point. In this paper, after analyzing the failures of the conventional points, a new point is suggested. The proposed point is not affected by the surge caused by lightning.

  • Considering structure of depot, it is impossible to install the track circuit systems due to iron-beam. Because rails and earth are connected by the iron-beam, there is much leakage current. So, it is hard to apply the track circuit systems. Thus, when trains go to the depot, sign which indicates existence of trains is used manually. In case of wrong sign, accidents occur such as train crash, derailment etc. Currently, location of trains has been found by using optical sensor in the depot to prevent the accidents. However, it costs a great deal to install and maintain the optical sensor. Therefore, this method is hardly used in train operation institutes. In this paper, virtual track circuit systems are introduced by using software program in the depot. Also, algorithm of the virtual track circuit systems is proposed. In case that signal is handled to the depot which is occupied by the train, safety is ensured by indicating sign which means existence of trains and stop signal. Also, proper fault tolerance techniques are proposed to the software by analyzing reliability and availability.

  • When the vehicle passes through turnout, the design is required to minimize the change of lateral force. Therefore, in case the vehicle passed the through turnout, we ought to execute dynamic analysis of the interaction between the vehicle and turnout in order to make an estimate of the lateral force and the derailment coefficient on the turnout. In this paper, we established the analytical model of the vehicle and turnout and analysed running safety when the vehicle passes through turnout in order to improve running safety of the vehicle on turnout. Also, to verify the vehicle and turnout model, we analysed reaction force and running behavior between wheel and rail, and running safety of the vehicle by changing cradle part and the tongue rail when the vehicle passes through turnout.

An Analysis of Running Safety for Railway Vehicle Depending on Actual Track Conditions (실제선로 조건에 따른 철도차량의 주행안전성 해석)

  • When the railway vehicle passing through curves & transitions, the running speed must improve by proposing the practical standard about maximum running possibility speed of each section on existing line considering running safety. In this paper, when the railway vehicle passing through curves of actual track conditions (Namsunghyun-Chungdo up & down lines), the effect that has influence on running safety is examined to devise the high speed of vehicle which passing through curves which risk of derailment is high. The running safety analysis is performed that running speed by curve radius improves 5-20% compared with existing speed under actual track conditions. In result of the running safety analysis, in case the speed condition is fewer than 15% compared with existing speed, the derailment coefficient and unloading ratio are within acceptable level. so we could confirm possibility of speed improvement on the whole Namsunghyun-Chungdo up & down lines.

Review of Minimum Curve Radius and Cant Range Setting for Mixed Section of Low and High speed Trains in Conventional Railway Line (일반철도의 저속 및 고속열차 혼용구간 최소곡선반경 및 설정캔트범위 검토)

  • On conventional railway lines, trains with different speeds are operated. Therefore, trains moving on curved sections with cants must accept various ranges of balanced cants, cant deficiency, and cant excess, which is essential for the comfort and safety of train operation. In this study, the correlation between the curve radius, cant, and train speed on a track was analyzed to check the cant range that satisfies the criteria of train types, operation speed, cant deficiency, and cant excess. Also, the range of setting the cant by the curve radius and balanced cant were calculated by a regression analysis of train speed according to the frequency of operation in the case of mixed trains. The results could make it possible to improve the speed of the operation route, reduce the loss of ride quality, reduce the risk of derailing caused by cant deficiency, and minimize the load deflection by excess cant. This will ensure the safety of trains running on curves and improve the efficiency of track maintenance.

  • The tilting train is able to tilt its body towards the center of the turning radius, preventing roll-over of the train as it runs on a curved rail at high-speed. This train, widely accepted for commercial purpose internationally, is very beneficial in that the operating time is shortened without much capital investment to the infrastructure where there are many curved rails. Over several years, the Korea Railroad Research Institute (KRRI) has developed such a train. In this paper, the safety of the Korean tilting train express (TTX) is investigated using a dynamic simulation model. Since proper safety standards have not been established for the TTX, those for the Korean train express (KTX) is employed to analyze the safety and ride comfort of the TTX. This study is useful in predicting the behavior of the TTX and ride comfort, and conforms that designed TTX is stable enough to satisfy the safety standards. It would be useful to recommend proper normal operating speed and determine the maximum safety speed, according to the result. Furthermore, it would be possible to provide basic reference data when analyzing the dynamic effect of the catenary system and the fatigue of the bogie.

  • The railway signalling system plays an essential role in the safe and efficient train operation as serving control functions of train operation intervals and train routes. The reliability and safety of the system are very important because the failure of the railway signalling system can lead to train collision or derailment as well as train operation stop. Until now, in railway signalling system the conventional wayside signal mode has been used generally. There are, however, the risk of accidents such as human mistakes caused by that the driver identifies the signal lamp status and controls train speed with the naked eye. It is also necessary to refurbish the obsolete system. Thereby, It is being effective that the onboard signal mode has been recently introduced and applied in order to transmit the speed control information to train by using the computer and communication equipment. It is necessary to switch over the system in a way while providing passengers with an operation service to replace the obsolete signal system. In this paper, we verify the cases through trial assessment which are solved by the way of adding specific functionalities in the problems of interference among the procedure of switch-over processes and a serial of processes for system verification while a train is operated in the new system in parallel to the existing system.
