Thermal and Mineralogical Characterization of Ca-montmorillonite from Gampo Area: Morphology by Electron Microscope Study (감포지역(甘浦地域) Ca-몬모릴로나이트의 광물학적(鑛物學的) 및 열적특성(熱的特性) : 전자현미경(電子顯微鏡)에 의한 형태적(形態的) 연구)

  • The morphology of the Ca-montmorillonites from the Gampo area was investigated by the use of scanning and transmission electron microscope. These bulk samples show an irregular or rugged surface with well developed cavities and relict outline of original ash material at low magnification by SEM, indicating that montmorillonites are derived from volcanogenic material. Two different types of morphology of montmorillonites by SEM were observed which appear to depend very much on the space available for crystal growth. One is honeycomb structure montmorillonite growing in an open space. The other is the closely packed aggregates of intergrown montmorillonite showing platy particles where available space for the growth is limited. Several different habits of montmorillonite within a single sample can be observed by TEM. The dominant habit observed is the irregularly shaped and foliated aggregates and the platy shaped particles. In general, platy shaped particles are relatively abundant in the samples from Yongdongri compared with those from Jugjeonri area.

Thermal and Electrical Properties of Polyacrylate/Carbon Nanotube Composite Sheet (폴리아크릴레이트/카본나노튜브 복합체 시트의 열적.전기적 성질)

  • The polyacrylate/multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT) composites were prepared and investigated for the application as a counter electrode in solar cell. The electrical conductivity of the composites was increased with increasing MWNT content and with the thickness of the sheet. The surface resistivity value of the composite at 50 wt% loading of MWNT was 0.36 ${\Omega}$/sq. The thermal decomposition temperature of the composites was also increased with the MWNT contents, and the increase of $15^{\circ}C$ was observed at the composite of polyacrylate/MWNT (50/50, w/w). The increase of storage modulus of the composites was observed, especially at the higher temperature compared to polyacrylate. The dimensional change of polyacrylate decreased over $20^{\circ}C$, but that of the composite increased linearly with the temperature. The morphology of the composites stands for the good dispersion of MWNT into the polyacrylate matrix.

  • A 50 KD metalloprotease of Serratia marcesrens ATCC 21074 was purified by ammoniumsulfate precipitation. DEAE-cellulose ion exchange chromatography, and sephadex ti-100gel filtration. Optimal pH and temperature of enzyme were pH 8.0 and 37"C, respectively.This enzyme was stable in the ranges of 10-37$^{\circ}$C and pH 5.0--11.0. Thermal denaturationwas investigated by differential scanning calorimetry. Onset temperature of denaturationand endothermic peak temperature were 376$^{\circ}$C and 43.2"C. re:,pectively. The denaturationenthalpy was -8.4mJimg. The purified metalloprotease was ri.sistant to autodigestion for24 hr at 30$^{\circ}$C. Metalloprotease in culture supernatant was also resistant to autodigestionin this conditions. Heat-denatured enzyme. however. was rapidly digested by the nativeenzyme. The metalloprotease was stable to proteolytic digestion by mammalian proteasessuch as trypsin. a-chymotrypsin, and elastase. But the enzyme was easily digested bybacterial protease. thermolysin.bacterial protease. thermolysin.

  • Pelletizer of dry ice snow produced by adiabatic expansion of liquid carbon dioxide and their blaster were designed and manufactured. The blaster had a high cleaning power against various contaminants on the surface such as stain, oily dirt, lacquer film and paints with low blasting pressure and low consumption of blasting air. The capacity of hopper for dry ice pellet supply was 12 kg and the mass rate of pellet blasting was controlled in 0 to 1.2 kg/min. The impact of the pellets was independent of standoff distance within a certain limiting distance, and dependent on the impact stress, angle and mass rate of dry ice pellet blasting. On the other hand the cleaning power was influenced by thermal properties and surface roughness of the substrates and decreased in the order of glass, copper, brass, steel and acryl. The power was also affected by hardness and adhesion of the contaminant on the substrate, and decreased in the order of grease, epoxy and paint. The noise was detected during blasting in the range of 85 to 100dBA.

A Study on Noise Resistance and Physical Properties of NBR Rubber Materials Containing Oleamide and Aramid Chip (Oleamide 및 아라미드 칩을 첨가한 NBR 고무재료의 내소음성 및 물성 연구)

  • This study are conducted for the purpose of developing rubber material with noise and crack resistance. Cure characteristics, physical properties, thermal resistance, fuel resistance, abrasion resistance, crack resistance and noise resistance of NBR compounds with the various amounts of oleamide and aramid chip were investigated. From the measurements of cure characteristics and Mooney viscosities, cure characteristics of uncured rubber showed that a torque was decreased as the amount of oleamide increased. Hardness, modulus and elongation of rubber specimens tended to be reduced gradually, however, tensile strength remained unchanged as the amount of the oleamide increased. As a testing results of heat resistance for 70 hours at $120^{\circ}C$ and oil resistance far 70 hours at $40^{\circ}C$, tensile strength and elongation were all reduced. From the TGA/DSC analysis, there was no such a change observed in thermal characteristics of rubber materials. As a result of testing basic physical properties, abrasion resistance, noise resistance and crack resistance, the optimum ratio of oleamide to NBR was found to be 3 phr, while that of aramid to NBR 227001 was 1 phr.

  • Linear and crosslinked polyurethane dispersions were synthesized with 2,4-toluene diisocyanate, dimethylol propionic acid, polyoxypropylene glycol and polyoxypropylene glycerin. The structures of these polyurethanes were characterized by $^1H-NMR$ and FT-IR and the properties were measured with DSC, TGA, Instron and AFM etc. In case of linear polyurethane dispersion, the particle size, viscosity and glass transition temperature of polyurethanes increased with higher molecular weight of polyol and the degree of crosslinking. The crosslinked polyurethanes which contains more than 15% of polyoxypropyleneglycerin didn't from dispersion, when mixtures by polyoxypropyleneglycol and polyoxypropyleneglycerin were used as polyols. Thus, we synthesized crosslinked polyurethanes with 5%, 8%, 13% and 15% weight percents of polyoxypropylene glycerin as polyol mixtures.

  • MWNTs have been widely investigated due to unique properties of such as good electrical conductivity and thermal stability in polymer composites industries. This paper established the procedure to fabricate PMMA/MWNT composites by a modular intermeshing co-rotating twin screw extruder with L/D ratio of 42. The electrical properties of PMMA/MWNT composites with different content of MWNT have been investigated. A sheet resistance percolation was observed at 4 wt% of MWNT for the melt processed composites. Sheet resistance of PMMA/MWNT composite film containing 4 wt% of MWNT was nearby $10^4{\Omega}/sq$ and this shows the possibility of potential application to EMI (Electronic Magnetic Interference) shielding materials. The characteristics of composites were analyzed by TGA, DSC, and SEM. In addition, MFI (Melt Flow Index) has been measured to analyze the rheological property.

  • Polyamide 12 (PA12) oligomers (oPA1) were prepared by dispersion polymerization of ${\omega}$-amino carboxylic acid and dibasic acid in a dispersion medium, thermally stable hydrocarbon liquid paraffin, YK-D130 (a step polymerization). The molecular weight and various properties of other oligomeric PAs (oPA2) obtained by bulk polymerization without the medium were compared with those of oPA1s. The oPA1s showed lighter white color and narrower molecular weight distribution than oPA2s at the same molecular weight. Moreover elastomeric poly(ether-block-amide) (PEBA)s were synthesized with oPA1 and oPA2 as hard segments and poly(tetramethylene glycol) (PTMG) as a soft segment. The molecular weight distribution, and mechanical property of the PEBA originated from the both oligomeric PAs were characterized.

A Study on the Synthesis of Organic-Inorganic Hybrid Waterborne Polyurethane by Using Graft Type Siloxane Polyol (그래프트형 실록산 폴리올을 이용한 유-무기 하이브리드 수분산 폴리우레탄의 합성에 관한 연구)

  • Organic- inorganic hybrid waterborne polyurethane (PUD) is synthesized by using hybrid polyol consist of carbonate (PCD), ester (PCL), and siloxane (PDSBP) in order to enhance anti-scratch property of PUD film. The diameter of graft type PUD emulsion is bigger than that of linear type PUD due to the graft structure of hydrophobic siloxane chain. The glass transition temperature of linear type PUD increase and the decomposition temperature of linear type PUD decrease with the content of PCD polyol. While, the decomposition temperature of graft type PUD almost same with increasing PDSBP content. The anti-scratch property and pencil hardness of graft type PUD improves as adding PDSBP polyol in the hybrid polyol system. When 9 wt% of PDSBP polyol is mixed, PUD films shows excellent anti-scratch property (~3.3 N), and pencil hardness (> 9 H).

Phyllite as a New Flame Retardant Synergist for ABS Resin Containing Bromine Flame Retardant (브롬계 난연제를 사용한 ABS 수지에 대한 신규 난연 상승작용제로시의 천매암)

  • Flame retardant synergism of phyllite was studied in ABS resins containing brominated flame retardant(tetrabromobisphenol A(TBBA) or brominated epoxy oligomer(BEO)) and antimony trioxide($Sb_2O_3)$. Talc was used for the comparison purpose. ABS compounds were manufactured by a twin-screw co-rotating extruder and subsequently injection molded into several specimen for mechanical and thermal properties. Flame retardancy of ABS compounds measured by UL 94 vertical test with 1.6 mm thick bar specimen was enhanced by the replacement of antimony trioxide into phyllite or talc in the range of 12.5%(0.5 wt%) to 37.5%(1.5 wt%). Phyllite showed better synergistic effect comparing with talc especially for BEO. Only phyllite enhanced the flowability of ABS compounds. Notched Izod impact strength decreased with the proportion of phyllite or talc content. Phyllite could replace the antimony trioxide up to the content of 25%(1 wt%) to give better flame retardancy and flowability without darkening problem.
