  • Thermal design changes and analysis on the engineering model of Command Telemetry Unit(CTU) for a geostationary communications satellite arc performed for the purpose of developing an engineering qualification model. A thermal model is developed by using power consumption measurement values of each functional board and thermal cycling test results. In modeling heat dissipated EEE parts, heat dissipation is imposed evenly on the EEE part footprint area which is projected to the printed circuit board. All the EEE parts of CTU meet the requirement of their allowable temperature range when placed on the engineering qualification level of thermal vacuum environments in accordance with the proposed thermal design changes.

  • To guarantee the proper functions of a satellite in the extreme space environment, the several test models are developed generally. There are advantages that the design and the analysis of Flight Model(FM) can be validated through these test models, and the functional reliabilities can be increased by reflecting the modifications on the final design of FM. The integration and test of Structure & Thermal Model(STM) of KOMPSAT, being currently developed, have been completed. In this paper, the processes of design/analysis and integration of the STM propulsion system, one of the KOMPSAT modules, are described.

  • In this study, the thermal and stress analyses were performed by applying a temperature condition of 100℃ at CPU cooler model. The value of heat flux value is shown to be the most at the lower rod area. The upper part becomes, the smaller the heat flow rate. The highest temperature is shown at the bottom of the CPU cooler model. Overall, the upper part becomes, the smaller the temperature becomes. Based on the temperature analysis, the thermal deformation caused by expansion, the deformation becomes smaller as the upper part of the overlapping plates. The great deformation happens at the bent area of the small rod as the lower part of model and the least deformation is shown at the lowest floor of model. In addition, the maximum thermal stress of 570.63 MPa happens at the floor below model. The stress is shown to decrease as the upper part of the overlapping plates becomes. But the stress is shown to increase somewhat at the middle part of model. By applying the study result on the thermal and stress analyses of CPU cooler, this study is seen to be suitable for the aesthetic convergence.

  • The heat release rate (HRR) of fire for solid combustibles, consisting of multi-materials, was measured using the ISO 9705 room corner test, and a computational analysis was conducted to simulate the fire using an HRR prediction model that was provided by a fire dynamics simulator (FDS). As the solid combustible consisted of multi-materials, a cinema chair composed primarily of PU foam, PP, and steel was employed. The method for predicting the HRR provided by the FDS can be categorized into a simple model and a pyrolysis model. Because each model was applied and computational analysis was conducted under the same conditions, the HRR and fire growth rate predicted by the pyrolysis model had good agreement with the results obtained using the ISO 9705 room corner test.

  • High-rise buildings have recently increased over the residential, commercial and office facilities, thus an understanding of construction cost for high-rise building projects has been a fundamental issue due to enormous construction cost as well as unpredictable market conditions and fluctuations in the rate of inflation by long-term construction periods of high-rise projects. Especially, recent violent fluctuations of construction material prices add to problems in construction cost forecasting. This research, therefore, develops a time-series model with the Box-Jenkins methodologies and material prices time-series data in Korea in order to forecast future trends of unit prices of required materials. BIM (Building Information Modeling) approaches are also used to analyze injection time of construction resources and to conduct quantity takeoff so that total material price can be forecasted. Comparative analysis of Predictability of tentative ARIMA (Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average) models was conducted to determine optimal time-series model for forecasting future price trends. Proposed BIM based time series forecasting model can help to deal with sudden changes in economic conditions by estimating future material prices.

  • This study evaluates the modeling accuracy of the existing three phase shift models on which the time domain oscillator phase noise theories are based. For the evaluation, this study investigates how accurately the three models can model the phase shift impulse train response of a simple planar oscillator. Evaluation result reveals that Kaertner model most accurately reflects the oscillator's phase shift impulse train responses for five different impulse train inputs, whereas PP model exhibited the worst performance in modeling the phase shift impulse train responses.

  • Satrec Initiative successfully developed and verified a high-resolution electro-optical camera system, EOS-D Ver.1.0. We designed this system to give improved spatial and radiometric resolution compared with EOS-C series systems. The thermal control subsystem (TCS) of the EOS-D Ver.1.0 uses heaters to meet the opto-mechanical requirements during in-orbit operation and uses different thermal coatings and multi-layer insulation (MLI) blankets to minimize the heater power consumption. Also, we designed and verified a refocusing mechanism to compensate the misalignment caused by moisture desorption from the metering structure. We verified the design margin and workmanship by conducting the qualification level thermal vacuum test. We also performed the verification of thermal math model (TMM) by comparing with thermal balance test results. As a result, we concluded that it faithfully represents the thermal characteristics of the EOS-D Ver.1.0.
