  • This research investigated the improvement plan for Korean Volunteer Fire Department through comparative consideration of overall operation system of Japanese and U.S. Volunteer Fire Department. For this, the researcher utilized descriptive approach according to documentary survey method including relevant academic essay, advanced research report, national institution publication, fire fighting-related books, textbook for new comers of Japanese fire department, and overseas training report, etc., and suggested an improvement plan for efficient operation of Korean Volunteer Fire Department. Research results are, first, enhance the community spirit of local community and establish of the status of Volunteer Fire Department. second, enlarge the scope of the work of Volunteer Fire Department to rescue, emergency medical services. third, organize task force team which is in charge of professional field education and training for Volunteer Fire Department. fourth, improve individual reward system and establishment of Volunteer Fire Department's identity and reinforce financial support. The researcher expects the research results can be utilized as the basic materials for the development of Korean Volunteer Fire Department, henceforth.

Secondary School Home Economics Teachers´ Educational Needs Analysis on Teaching Competency (중등학교 가정과 교사의 교수 능력에 관한 교육 요구 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to general needs and identify the educational needs for teaching competency of home economics teachers. based on their perception on teaching competency revealed in Previous studies. Data were collected from 1,104 schools selected by stratified sampling. based on school district, ranking and size. The 616 items of survey materials were collected from 417 schools and the levels of importance and performance were measured on Likert scale with 7- and 5- points, respectively. The analysis reveled that the educational needs for improving teaching competency were high in the following three areas out of seven areas. 1) interfacing ability with the local community and diverse human resources. 2) ability managing space and materials for learning 3) ability diversifying lesson development and evaluation ability. In addition. diversifying and professionalizing present development program for home economics teachers made higher score than improving education program for home economics teachers. These two needs of teachers showed significant differences according to their educational experiences and foundation types of their schools.

  • This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation on the combustion of single droplets and 1-D droplet arrays of jet A-1 fuel droplets in atmospheric pressure. Experimental results indicate that burning rate constants$({\kappa}_c)$ of jet A-1 fuel droplets were independent of initial droplet size as $0.915{mm}^2$/sec. It was acquired a general relationship expressing the variation of $d^2$ with time for droplet burning For 1-D droplet arrays $(l/d_o$=1.208{\sim}2.922)$/TEX>, the burning rate constant ${\kappa}_c$ decreased with decreasing droplet spacing $l/d_o$ and, The effect on combustion rate constant ${\kappa}_c$ was stronger to second fuel droplet than third fuel droplet with uniform droplet distance

  • A monopulse sensor is used to estimate the angle of a target with respect to each received single pulse. It is well known that the cross-eye technique can result in an angle deception effect against monopulse sensors. To verify this effect, we propose a test environment configuration for the angle deception using monopulse receiving antennae and cross-eye transmitters in an anechoic chamber. Using the proposed test environment configuration, we have measured powers of the sum and difference of the signals received by the monopulse receiving antennae when the distance of the two cross-eye transmitters is varied. Finally, the angle deception performance related to the powers of the sum and difference signals was analyzed.

NAPL Removal from Contaminated Soil Using Steam Injection (스팀주입에 의한 토양내 NAPL 제거 실험)

  • The possibility of NAPL removal from contaminated soil was studied using the steam injection technique. Both single (octane, toluene and xylene) and composite NAPL (gasoline) were used as contaminant. Soils used in this study were Chumunjin fine sand and weathered granitic soil, both of which are commonly found in Korea. Experimental results showed that with 1 pore volume steam injection, the NAPL removal rate was in the range of 66∼78% for sand and 45∼73% for weathered granitic soil. The steam injection technique seems to have high potential for soil remediation with advantages of relatively short operating time and no side-effect. Rise in the background temperature led to the delay of steam condensation and the increase of NAPL mobility, which resulted in the improvement of removal efficiency. In addition, water flooding after steam injection turned out to be a very efficient way of removing NAPL residual in the soil pores.

  • As the turbine running duration in nuclear power plants increases, cracks have been found in the pin finger type blade root area. The nondestructive examination for the blade root area has been carried out by manual ultrasonic examination during the overhaul period, but because of necessity to improve the reliability, we developed an automatic ultrasonic examination system and technique. To demonstrate the performance of the developed automatic ultrasonic examination system, low pressure turbine blades in the 2nd and 3rd stages of nuclear power plants were examined using the developed system. Its applicability nuclear power plant turbine roots of various types was also confirmed.

  • Small and middle sized architectural design firms still have trouble using BIM (Building Information Modeling) for their tasks, which means that it is necessary to develop BIM Libraries and Technical contents. These BIM libraries should be based on common technical standards that reflect the technical contents to provide optimum BIM design support. This is essential to reduce the technological burden on the design office, because BIM does not just involve the 3D modeling of the design, but provides very important information for calculating the quantity of materials required for the construction and providing materials for the design work. Therefore, this research was aimed at improving the efficiency of the BIM design process by developing a system module based on the BIM technical contents data for the purpose of linking the BIM data and technical contents. The developed system module will be expanded to other uses of BIM in the long term.

  • 2004년 개발된 다차원홍수피해산정법(MD-FDA)은 홍수에 따른 경제적 피해를 추정하기 위한 기법으로서 그 동안 하천설계기준, 댐설계기준, KDI 예비타당성조사 지침 등에 반영되어 실무에서 활발히 사용 중이다. 그러나 그 동안 많은 연구에서 MD-FDA의 인벤토리 체계, 가용자료의 정밀성, 손상함수, 손실유형 범위와 관련한 개선이 요구되었으며, 최근에는 재난위기 관리 능력강화를 위한 "한국형 재난피해 예측 시스템" 개발의 필요성이 제기되면서 현재 다양한 분야의 전문가들이 재난손실과 관련한 많은 연구를 진행 중이다. 이에 본 연구는 국외 주요 홍수손실 예측 모델과 현재 국가차원에서 서비스되는 상세자료를 검토하여 일반건물(general building)의 홍수손실 평가 체계를 제시하고, 이와 연관된 세부요소 기술을 정립하였다. 우선, 지역 내 건물현황 및 특성정보가 참조가능한 자료를 바탕으로 일반건물의 유형을 분류하였고, 이밖에 건물손실 평가에서 주요 참고자료로 활용되는 인구, 종사자수 등의 사회 경제적 정보를 연계한 인벤토리 DB 구조를 설계하였다. 이로부터 구축되는 인벤토리 DB는 위치정보를 포함하는 공간자료이며, 손상(damage)과 손실(loss)을 평가하기 위한 건물특성 정보를 포함한다. 한편, 본 연구에서의 건물손실은 자산의 총가치를 기준으로 한 상대적 손상률(%)을 설명하는 손상함수를 기반으로 하기 때문에 감가상각을 고려한 건물의 완전대체비용(건물자산가치)가 정의되어야 한다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 최근 한국감정원에서 발간한 "건물신축단가표"와 "유형고정자산 내용연수표"를 바탕으로 손실평가에 필요한 요소기술을 정립하였다. 제시한 일련의 과정은 동두천시 신천 범람사례를 대상으로 적용하였고, 그 결과를 기존의 MD-FDA 결과와 비교하였다.

An Evaluation Study for APEC International Cooperation Projects : Focusing on the Perception of Participants (APEC 국제교육협력사업에 대한 성과평가 연구: 국제교육활동 참여자들의 인식을 중심으로)

  • This study conducted the international evaluation of the APEC educational cooperation projects initiated by the Korean government and drew out strategies and tasks for their sustainable implementation. To this end, eight projects implemented by the Institute of APEC Collaborative Education were selected for the evaluation which examined participants' awareness of and the degree of participation in the eight projects as well as contribution to the intended outcomes of the projects. An online survey was conducted to participants of the eight projects and 283 experts and participants from 18 economies responded. The descriptive analysis found that the participants of ALCoB Cooperation Project reported the most positive perception of the awareness while the participants of the ALCoB Internet Volunteers showed the lowest degree of participation in and contribution to the intended outcomes of the project. Based on the results, several suggestions for further progress in Korea's APEC educational cooperation were made.

  • Ma Yue-Han was a sports educator from Bokgun, China during the modern period of China. He has been a professor of physical education at China's most prestigious university Tsing-Hua for nearly 50 years. His achievements do not remain at the level of nurturing healthy bodies of students at the Chinese University of Tsing-Hua. He offered a new direction in the development and education of modern and contemporary Chinese schools, he foundation of the formation of Ma Yue-Han's athletic ideas can be attributed to the long-educated St. John University and Springfield University, where he studied intensively during his tenure at Tsing-Hua University. Also, judging from his fellow professors at Tsing-Hua University, Ma Yue-Han was influenced by the YMCA athletic spirit associated with strong Christianity and believed to have practiced it in the field of education.
