Analysis of Flame Generated Turbulence for a Turbulent Premixed Flame with Zone Conditional Averaging (영역분할조건평균법을 이용한 난류예혼합화염내 난류운동에너지 생성에 관한 연구)

  • The zone conditional two-fluid equations are derived and validated against DNS database of a premixed turbulent flame. The conditional statistics of major flow variables are investigated to understand the mechanism of flame generated turbulence. The flow field in burned zone shows substantially increased turbulent kinetic energy, which is highly anisotropic due to reaction kinematics across thin f1amelets. The transverse component may be larger than the axial component for a distributed pdf of the flamelet orientation angle, while the opposite occurs due to redistribution of turbulent kinetic energy and flamelet orientation normal to the flow at the end of a flame brush. The major source or sink terms of turbulent kinetic energy are the interfacial transfer by the mean reaction rate and the work terms by fluctuating pressure and velocity on a flame surface. Ad hoc modeling of some interfacial terms may be required for further application of the two-fluid model in turbulent combustion simulations.

  • To provide standard data of temperature and species concentration in a flame for calibrating the laser based combustion diagnostics, we investigated combustion characteristics of a flat flame burner(Mckennar Product). For various stoichiometric ratios we measured temperature and concentration of OH in the premixed methane/air flame with Coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy and laser induced fluorescence technique, respectively. Assuming the chemical equilibrium condition at the measured temperature, the mole fraction of the OH radical in the flame was obtained and compared with numerical analysis.

  • The flowfield of transverse jet in a supersonic air stream subjected to shock wave turbulent boundary layer interactions is simulated numerically by Generalized Taylor Galerkin(GTG) finite element methods. Effects of turbulence are taken into account with a two-equation $(k-\varepsilon)$ model with a compressibility correction. Injection pressures and slot widths are varied in the present study. Pressure, separation extents, and penetration heights are compared with experimental data. Favorable comparisons with experimental measurements are demonstrated.

  • 최근 빈번하게 발생하고 있는 사우나 등의 열을 방사하는 도크내에서 발생하는 화재사고는 다중이용업소를 이용하는 불특정한 사람들의 생명을 위협하고 있는 수준에 도달하고 있다. 특히 이런 시설의 화재는 화재발생 후에 소방대에 의한 진압에만 치중하고 있어 향후 계속하여 화재가 발생할 우려가 큼에도 불구하고 착화원인을 규명하는데 소홀히 하고있다. 특히 현장감식에 의한 육안조사만을 실시하여 화재원인을 추정하거나 설정하는 경우가 대부분이라 근본적인 대책을 세우지 못하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 육안조사 등에 의하여 설정한 착화원인을 과학적인 분석법 즉, EU국가에서 널리 사용하는 CFD(컴퓨터수치해석)시뮬레이션 S/W를 사용하여 연소모델링에 의한 검증조사기법을 적용하여 원인을 검증하는데 사용하여 국내화재조사기술의 과학화를 시도하였다.

  • An aerodynamic design for centrifugal compressor which was applied to medium speed diesel engine has done. First of all, exact compressor specifications must be defined by accurate engine system matching. This matching program has been developed. Using the mean1ine prediction method, geometric design and performance curve for compressor was done and verified by comparing three dimensional viscous CFD results. The deviation at the design point was about 2.3%. Combustor has been designed and manufactured for the performance test of medium speed diesel engine turbocharger. Fuel nozzle of combustor was designed and performed by PIV and PDPA test equipment. Through these results, spray characteristics were studied and flow coefficient equation was deduced.

  • Mathematical formulation of the zone conditional two-fluid model is established to consider flame-generated turbulence in premixed turbulent combustion. The conditional statistics of major flow variables are investigated to understand the mechanism of flame generated turbulence. The flow field in burned zone shows substantially increased turbulent kinetic energy, which is highly anisotropic due to reaction kinematics across thin flamelets. The transverse component of rms velocities in burned zone become larger than axial component in the core of turbulent flame brush. The major source or sink terms of turbulent kinetic energy are the interfacial transfer by the mean reaction rate and the work terms by fluctuating pressure and velocity on a flame surface.

  • The fully coupled conditional moment closure(CMC) model has been developed to realistically simulate the structure of complex turbulent nonpremixed syngas flame, in which the flame structure could be considerablyl influenced by the turbulence, transport history, and heat transfer as well. In order to correctly account for the transport effect, the CMC transport equations fully coupled with the flow and mixing fields are numerically solved. The present CMC approach has successfully demonstrated the capability to realistically predict the detailed structure and the overall combustion characteristics. The numerical results obtained in this study clearly reveal the importance of the convective and radiative heat transfer in the precise structure and NOx emission of the present confined combustor with a cooling wall.

  • The present study deals with the effect of combustion chamber shape on in-cylinder soot oxidation characteristics of a D.I . diesel engine. The analysed combustion chambers were a toroidal and a reentrant with a projection(Complex). The two-color method was used to measure in-cylinder flame temperature and KL value which is approximately proportional to the soot amount along the optical path. In addition, heat release rate was calculated from the in-cylinder pressure data. From these investigations , the soot oxidation of the reentrant and the complex which were strengthen squish flows went worse in late combustion period under heavy-load operation compared to that of the toroidal at retarded fuel injection timing . It might be the cause of the flame holding that squish lip depress the outflow of flame from the bowl to the entire combustion space.

  • The structure of premixed turbulent flames in a constant-volume vessel was investigated using a microprobe method. The flame potential signal having one to eight peaks was detected in the case of turbulent flames, each of them being regarded as a flamelet existing in the flame zone. Based on this consideration, the flame propagation speed, the thickness of the flame zone, the number of flamelets and the separation distance between adjacent flamelets in the flame zone were measured. The experimental resuits of this work suggest the existence of "reactant islands" behind the flame front when the turbulence was intensified to some extent. The critical(lowest) ratio of turbulence intensity to the laminar burning velocity being found to be about 0.7 for the formation of reactant islands in this experiment.

  • An oxygen bomb combustion procedure were studied for determination of heavy metal in polymer materials such as polyvinyl chloride and polypropylene by ICP-AES. This method is proposed as a rapid and simple sample preparation for decomposition of polymer containing certified contents of the analytes by teflon coated oxygen bomb combustion using different absorbing solution. The recoveries of metal were found to be 30~102% from absorbed solution by ICP-AES method using polypropylene certified reference material(PP CRM-As, Ba, Cd, Hg, Pb, Zn). The recoveries of metal using PVC CRM(Cd, Hg, Pb) was found to be 45 ~101% with same procedures.
