In this paper, an early termination algorithm for merge process is proposed to reduce the computational complexity in High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) encoder. In the HEVC, the same candidate modes from merge candidate list (MCL) are shared to predict a merge or merge SKIP mode. This search process is performed by the number of the obtained candidates for the both of the merge and SKIP modes. This may cause some redundant search operations. To reduce this redundant search operation, we employ the neighboring blocks which have been encoded in prior, to check on the contextual information. In this study, the spatial, temporal and depth neighboring blocks have been considered to compute a correlation information. With this correlation information, an early termination algorithm for merge process is suggested. When all modes of neighboring blocks are SKIP modes, then the merge process performs only SKIP mode. Otherwise, usual merge process of HEVC is performed Through experimental results, the proposed method achieves a time-saving factor of about 21.25% on average with small loss of BD-rate, when comparing to the original HM 10.0 encoder.
Joint Collaborative Team on Video Coding (JCT-VC), which have founded ISO/IEC MPEG and ITU-T VCEG, has standardized High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC). Standardization of HEVC has started with purpose of twice or more coding performance compared to H.264/AVC. However, flexible and hierarchical coding block and recursive coding structure are problems to overcome of HEVC standard. Many fast encoding algorithms for reducing computational complexity of HEVC encoder have been proposed. However, it is hard to implement a real-time HEVC encoder only with those fast encoding algorithms. In this paper, for implementation of software-based real-time HEVC encoder, data-level parallelism using SIMD instructions and CPU/GPU multi-threading methods are proposed. And we also proposed appropriate operations and functional modules to apply the proposed methods on HM 10.0 software. Evaluation of the proposed methods implemented on HM 10.0 software showed 20-30fps for $832{\times}480$ sequences and 5-10fps for $1920{\times}1080$ sequences, respectively.
The intelligent disk can improve the overall performance of the I/O subsystem by processing the I/O operations in the disk side. At present time, however, realizing the intelligent disk seems to be impossible because of the limitation of the I/O subsystem and the lack of the backward compatibility with the traditional I/O interface scheme. In this paper, we proposed new model for the intelligent disk that dynamically optimizes the I/O subsystem using the information that is only related to the physical sector. In this way, the proposed model does not break the compatibility with the traditional I/O interface scheme. For these works, the boosting algorithm that upgrades a weak learner by repeating teaming is used. If the last learner classifies a recent I/O workload as the multimedia workload, the disk reads more sectors. Also, by embedding this functionality as a firmware or a embedded OS within the disk, the overall I/O subsystem can be operated more efficiently without the additional workload.

Because facial asymmetry is caused by various causes, the cause analysis is important and quantitative index is needed to the evaluation. In this study, we applied the Nottingham Grading System that was used as a quantitative index to evaluate the facial paralysis by tracking the markers through the image processing and calculating the distance between the markers with images obtained by using the webcam, to evaluate facial asymmetry. The existing Nottingham Grading System has a problem of causing a measurement error in the specific case because the left and right are compared by summing the distance change between the feature points of the face part according to the change of the facial expression. We compared the case of the facial asymmetry and case of normal subject by using the existing Nottingham Grading System and the improved Nottingham grading system. In the existing Nottingham Grading System, case of facial asymmetry and case of facial symmetry were 99.0% and 95.0% respectively in the normal range, but the improved Nottingham Grading System showed facial asymmetry case was 74.0% and facial symmetrical case was 93.2%. The results of experiment show that the improved Nottingham Grading System allows detailed evaluation of each site and improved the problem of the Nottingham Grading System for specific cases.

Multiple spatial queries are defined as two or more spatial range queries to be executed at the same time. The primary processing of internet-based map services is to simultaneously execute multiple spatial queries. To improve the throughput of multiple queries, the time of disk I/O in processing spatial queries significantly should be reduced. The declustering scheme of a spatial dataset of the MIMD architecture cannot decrease the disk I/O time because of random seeks for processing multiple queries. This thesis presents query scheduling strategies to ease the problem of inter-query random seeks. Query scheduling is achieved by dynamically re-ordering the priority of the queued spatial queries. The re-ordering of multiple queries is based on the inter-query spatial relationship and the latency of query processing. The performance test shows that the time of multiple query processing with query scheduling can be significantly reduced by easing inter-query random seeks as a consequence of enhanced hit ratio of disk cache.

This paper proposes a robust and computationally efficient algorithm for automatic video object segmentation. For implementing the spatio-temporal segmentation, which aims for efficient combination of the motion segmentation and the color segmentation, an SOM-based hierarchical clustering method in which the segmentation process is regarded as clustering of feature vectors is employed. As results, problems of high computational complexity which required for obtaining exact segmentation results in conventional video object segmentation methods, and the performance degradation due to noise are significantly reduced. A measure of motion vector reliability which employs MRF-based MAP estimation scheme has been introduced to minimize the influence from the motion estimation error. In addition, a noise elimination scheme based on the motion reliability histogram and a clustering validity index for automatically identifying the number of objects in the scene have been applied. A cross projection method for effective object tracking and a dynamic memory to maintain temporal coherency have been introduced as well. A set of experiments has been conducted over several video sequences to evaluate the proposed algorithm, and the efficiency in terms of computational complexity, robustness from noise, and higher segmentation accuracy of the proposed algorithm have been proved.

In this paper, we proposed the image hiding method which decreases calculation amount by encrypt partial data using discrete wavelet transform(DWT) and linear scale quantization which were adopted as the main technique for frequency transform in JPEG2000 standard. Also we used the chaotic system and cat map which has smaller calculation amount than other encryption algorithms and then dramatically decreased calculation amount. This method operates encryption process between quantization and entropy coding for preserving compression ratio of images and uses the subband selection method. Also, suggested encryption method to JPEG2000 progressive transmission. The experiments have been performed with the Proposed methods implemented in software for about 500 images. Consequently, we are sure that the proposed is efficient image encryption methods to acquire the high encryption effect with small amount of encryption. It has been shown that there exits a relation of trade-off between the execution time and the effect of the encryption. It means that the proposed methods can be selectively used according to the application areas.

In this study, a new method for canceling MRI artifacts through the motion translation of image plane is presented Breathing often makes problems in a clinical diagnosis. Assuming that the head moves up and down due to breathing, rigid translational motions in only y(phase encoding axis) direction are treated Unlike the conventional Iterative phase retrieval algorithm, this method is based on the MRI imaging process and analyzing of Image property A new constraint condition with which the motion component and the true image component in the MRI signal can be separated by a simple algebraic operation is extracted After the x(read out) directional Fourier transformation of MRI signal is done, the y(phase encoding) directional spectrum phasing value is Just an algebraic sum of the Image component and the motion component Meanwhile, as It is known that the density of subcutaneous fat area is almost uniform in the head tomographs, the density distribution along a y directional line on this fat area is regarded as symmetric shape If the density function is symmetric, then the phase of spectrum changes linearly with the position Hence, the departure component from the linear function can be separated as the motion component Based on this constrant condition, the new method of artifact cancellation is presented Finally, the effectiveness of this algorithm IS shown by using a phantom with simulated motions.

Because of rapid growth of data size, the number of data storage has been increased. When using multiple data storages, a distribute file system is essential to insure the availability of data files. The power consumption is a major problem when using a distributed file system with many data storages. Previous works have aimed at reducing the energy consumption with efficient file block layout by changing some data servers into stand-by mode. The file block migration has not been seriously considered because migration causes large cost. But when we consider addition of a new data server or file, file block migration is needed. This paper formulates the minimization of data block migration as an ILP optimization problem and solves it using branch-and-bound method. Using this technique, we can maximize the number of stand-by data servers with the minimum number of file block movement. However, computation time of branch-and-bound method of an ILP optimization problem increases exponentially as the problem size grows. Therefore this paper also proposes a data block and data server grouping method to solve many small ILP problems.

A novel instrumentation amplifier (IA) using fully-differential linear operational transconductance amplifier (FLOTA) for electronic measurement systems with low cost, wideband, and gain control with wide range is designed. The IA consists of a FLOTA, two resistor, and an operational amplifier(op-amp). The principal of the operating is that the difference of two input voltages applied into FLOTA converts into two same difference currents, and then these current drive resistor of (+) terminal and feedback resistor of op-amp to obtain output voltage. To verify operating principal of the IA, we designed the FLOTA and realized the IA used commercial op-amp LF356. Simulation results show that the FLOTA has linearity error of 0.1% and offset current of 2.1uA at input dynamic range ${\pm}3.0V$. The IA had wide gain range from -20dB to 60dB by variation of only one resistor and -3dB frequency for the 60dB was 10MHz. The proposed IA also has merits without matching of external resistor and controllable offset voltage using the other resistor. The power dissipation of the IA is 105mW at supply voltage of ${\pm}5V$.
