Many heterogeneous XML documents are being widely used with the increasing employment of XML, and the importance of data structure research for more efficient document management has been growing steadily. We propose a query processing technique which uses parent node information in a partitioned inverted index tree. The searching efficiency of these heterogeneous documents is greatly influenced by the number of query processing and the amount of target data sets in many ways. Therefore, considering these two factors is very important for designing a data structure. First, our technique stores parent node's information in an inverted index table. Then using this information, we can reduce the number of query processing by half. Also, the amount of target data sets can be lessoned by using partitioned inverted index table. Some XML documents collected from the Internet will be used to demonstrate the new method, and its high efficiency will be compared with some of the existing searching methods.

Recently there has been some efforts to add XML full-text retrievals and XML updates into new standardization of XML queries. XML full-text retrievals plays an important role in XML query languages. of like tables in relational model an XML document has complex and unstructured natures. We believe that when we try to get some information from unstructured XML documents a full-text retrieval query is much more convenient approach than a regular structured query XML update is another core function that an XML query have to have. In this paper we propose an inverted index to support XML updates and XML full-text queries in relational environment. Performance comparisons exhibit that our approach maintains a comparable size of inverted indexes and it supports many full-text retrieval functions very well. It also shows very stable retrieval performance especially for large size of XML documents. Foremost our approach handles XML updates efficiently by removing cascading effects.
XML is a data-oriented language to represent all types of documents including web documents. By means of the advent of XML-based document generation tools and grow of proprietary XML documents using those tools and translation from legacy data to XML documents at an accelerating pace, we have been gotten a large amount of differently-structured XML documents. Therefore, it is more and more important to retrieve the right documents from the document set. But, previous works on XML have mainly focused on the storage and retrieval methods for a large XML document or XML documents had a same DTD. And, researches that supported the structural difference did not efficiently process path queries on the document set. To resolve the problem, we suggested a new inverted index mechanism using RDBMS and proved it outperformed the previous works. And especially, as it showed the higher efficiency in indirect containment relationship, we argues that the index structure is fit for the differently-structured XML document set.
Due to an increasing volume of XML data, it is considered prudent to store XML data on an industry-strength database system instead of relying on a domain specific application or a file system. For shredded XML data stored in relational tables, however, it may not be straightforward to apply existing algorithms for twig query processing, since most of the algorithms require XML data to be accessed in a form of streams of elements grouped by their tags and sorted in a particular order. In order to support XML query processing within the common framework of relational database systems, we first propose several bitmap indexes and their strategies for supporting holistic twig joining on XML data stored in relational tables. Since bitmap indexes are well supported in most of the commercial and open-source database systems, the proposed bitmapped indexes and twig query processing strategies can be incorporated into relational query processing framework with more ease. The proposed query processing strategies are efficient in terms of both time and space, because the compressed bitmap indexes stay compressed during data access. In addition, we propose a hybrid index which computes twig query solutions with only bit-vectors, without accessing labeled XML elements stored in the relational tables.
With the increasing use of XML, considerable research is being conducted on the XML document management systems for more efficient storage and searching of XML documents. Depending on the base systems, these researches can be classified into object-oriented DBMS (OODBMS) and relational DBMS (RDBMS). OODBMS-based systems are better suited to reflect the structure of XML-documents than RDBMS based ones. However, using an XML parser to map the contents of documents to relational tables is a better way to construct a stable and effective XML document management system. The proposed X-Binder system uses an RDBMS-based inverted index; this guarantees high searching speed but wastes considerable storage space. To avoid this, the proposed system incorporates a path combining module agent that combines paths with sibling relations, and stores them in a single row. Performance evaluation revealed that the proposed system reduces storage wastage and search time.

This Paper Proposes an approach that removes the redundancy of Path information and uses an inverted index, as an efficient way to store a large volume of XML documents and to retrieve wanted information from there. An XML document is decomposed into nodes based on its tree structure, and stored in relational tables according to the node type, with path information from the root to each node. The existing methods using path information store data for all element paths, which cause retrieval performance to be decreased with increased data volume. Our approach stores only data for leaf element path excluding internal element paths. As the inverted index is made by the leaf element path only, the number of posting lists by key words become smaller than those of the existing methods. For the storage and retrieval of U data, our approach doesn't require the XML schema information of XML documents and any extension of relational database. We demonstrate the better performance of on approach than the existing approaches within the scope of our experiment.
We propose XIR-Linear, a novel method for processing partial match queries on large-scale heterogeneous XML documents using information retrieval (IR) techniques. XPath queries are written in path expressions on a tree structure representing an XML document. An XPath query in its major form is a partial match query. The objective of XIR-Linear is to efficiently support this type of queries for large-scale documents of heterogeneous schemas. XIR-Linear has its basis on the schema-level methods using relational tables and drastically improves their efficiency and scalability using an inverted index technique. The method indexes the labels in label paths as key words in texts, and allows for finding the label paths that match the queries far more efficiently than string match used in conventional methods. We demonstrate the efficiency and scalability of XIR-Linear by comparing it with XRel and XParent using XML documents crawled from the Internet. The results show that XIR-Linear is more efficient than both XRel and XParent by several orders of magnitude for linear path expressions as the number of XML documents increases.
We propose XIR-Branching, a novel method for processing partial match queries on heterogeneous XML documents using information retrieval(IR) techniques and novel instance join techniques. A partial match query is defined as the one having the descendent-or-self axis '//' in its path expression. In its general form, a partial match query has branch predicates forming branching paths. The objective of XIR-Branching is to efficiently support this type of queries for large-scale documents of heterogeneous schemas. XIR-Branching has its basis on the conventional schema-level methods using relational tables(e.g., XRel, XParent, XIR-Linear[21]) and significantly improves their efficiency and scalability using two techniques: an inverted index technique and a novel prefix match join. The former supports linear path expressions as the method used in XIR-Linear[21]. The latter supports branching path expressions, and allows for finding the result nodes more efficiently than containment joins used in the conventional methods. XIR-Linear shows the efficiency for linear path expressions, but does not handle branching path expressions. However, we have to handle branching path expressions for querying more in detail and general. The paper presents a novel method for handling branching path expressions. XIR-Branching reduces a candidate set for a query as a schema-level method and then, efficiently finds a final result set by using a novel prefix match join as an instance-level method. We compare the efficiency and scalability of XIR-Branching with those of XRel and XParent using XML documents crawled from the Internet. The results show that XIR-Branching is more efficient than both XRel and XParent by several orders of magnitude for linear path expressions, and by several factors for branching path expressions.
