  • The purpose of this study was to identify the convergent interaction effects of work environment on the relation between patients related stress and nurse's burnout. Data were collected with a convenience sample of 168 nurses at hospital in Seoul, Korea from 1 July to 15 July 2014. The structured questionnaires measured patients related stress, work environment, and burnout. In the results, patients related stress enhanced burnout. The analysis of moderating effect of work environments to relation between patients related stress to burnout showed that high control, rewards, fairness, and value and low overload reduced the influence of patients related stress to burnout. And community had main effect to burnout. Based on these results, it is necessary to develop nurse's work environment improvement strategies for relieving burnout.

  • Stress has been linked to the pathophysiology and pathogenesis of various psychiatric illnesses. Over the past few years, our understanding of the brain and neuroendocrine systems that are linked to stress responses has increased enormously. This article reviews a series of animal and human studies to understand what are the central pathways by which stress is perceived, processed, and transduced into a neuroendocrine response. We focus on the limbic-hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal(LHPA) axis and several neurotransmitter systems such as norepinephrine, CRF, serotonin, acetylcholine, and dopamine. LHPA stress circuit is a complex system with multiple control mechanisms which are altered in pathological states. CRF and related peptides in the central nervous system appear to enhance behavioral responses to stressors. Norepinephrine systems are also activated by stressors and cause the release of catecholamines from the autonomic nervous system. CRF-norepinephrine interaction makes a feed-forward system which may be important for an organism to mobilize not only the pituitary system but also the central nervous system, in response to environmental challenges. The interactions among several neurotransmitters and endocrine systems appear to play key roles in mediating various behavioral and psychological stress responses involving abnormal responses to stressors such as anxiety and affective disorders.

  • This research extends the research stream of technostress by incorporating age and gender as moderators of user perceptions in the workplace. Individual reactions toward technostress were studied throughout the past decade. However, changing demographic patterns have led to an increasingly older workforce. Gender effects in individual reactions toward technological stress differ based on age. Specifically, gender differences in technology perceptions became more pronounced among older workers, but a unisex pattern of results emerged among younger workers. The results from this study suggest that the factors of technostress is changed by gender and age. In light of these findings, theoretical and practical implications for researchers and practitioners are discussed.

The subject were 659 elementary and middle school students and their mothers. In the study, elementary and middle school students depression appeared significant difference to their sex/grade. Parenting stress related to learning expectation appeared significant difference to elementary and middle school students’ sex/grade. Elementary and middle school students depression appeared significant difference to Parenting stress. And as for correlating parenting stress to elementary and middle school students’ depression, the significance appeared in these factors.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the impacts of newspaper contents producers' role stress and burnout on their job satisfaction. For this, a survey was performed, of which the subjects were selected out of a great number of journalists employed in several newspapers. Finally, a total of 229 completed questionnaires were used for statistical inspections, such as correlation analysis and multivariate regression analysis. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: First, it is demonstrated that, the more stress journalists have with respect to role ambiguity, repetitive duties, and role conflict, which are three of the four factors causing role stress, they are less likely to have job satisfaction. However, role overload, the remaining factor of role stress, is shown to have nothing to do with job satisfaction despite it actually causes job stress most. Also, it is ascertained that role ambiguity among the aforementioned four factors of job stress has the most positive effect on job satisfaction in comparison. Second, burnout is shown to have negative correlation with job satisfaction. That is, it is identified that, the more burnout such as emotional exhaustions, depersonalization, and depreciation of personal accomplishment journalists perceive, they are less likely to have job satisfaction. In addition, it is become clear that depreciation of personal accomplishment, among the factors of burnout, has the strongest impact on job satisfaction.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify what factors actually affect the turnover intentions of social workers. It is an important task to grasp the factors of turnover of the social worker through empirical analysis because the high turnover rate of social welfare workers in Korea has a negative influence on their organization and ultimately impedes the stable delivery of social welfare services. This study used the results of analyzing 100 social workers in social service companies. In fact, the data used in this study were statistically analyzed only for 82 subjects, except for 18 subjects who did not respond to the variables used. As a result, the general effects of job stress on job turnover and job exhaustion were examined as much as possible. We examined the effect of job stress, an independent variable, on the turnover and exhaustion of social workers. Specifically, job stress was divided into role, organizational, and relationship, and it was found that role - related factor job stress only affected social workers' turnover intention significantly. In addition, the relationship-related affected the exhaustion of the social worker. Therefore, in order to reduce the exhaustion of the social worker, the desirable direction to reduce the stress of the relationship-related factor should be sought.

  • Many diseases occur by stress or effect of stress. The basis for using hormones in research of stress is the observation that most systems in the body show changes during stress and that hormonal markers in these changes are related with stress. Conceptually, the central role of sympathetic nervous system(SNS) and hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal(HPA) axis activity in stress provides copious justification for measuring hormonal changes. Catecholamines like epinephrine and norepinephrine, cortisol, testosterone and growth hormone and so on show sensitive reaction to stress. The major advantage of salivary sample to stress research is that its sampling technique can be performed in non-stressful conditions and without physical restraint and ethical problems. Because hormone levels in saliva is a good reflection of hormone levels in plasma, application of stress hormones in saliva is very useful for research of orofacial pain related with stress.

  • This study examined effects of Enterobacter ludwigii SJR3 showing a high 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate (ACC) deaminase activity, on growth of tomato plant and its expression of stress-related genes under drought and salt stress. SJR3 strain was inoculated at $10^6cell/g$ soil to 4-week grown tomato plants, and drought and salt stresses were treated. After additional incubation for 1 week, root length, stem length, fresh weight and dry weight of tomato plants treated with SJR3 increased by 37.8, 37.2, 96.8 and 146.6%, respectively compared to those of uninoculated plants in drought stress environment, and they increased by 19.2, 25.4, 19.5, and 105.8%, respectively in salt stress environment. Proline content in tomato leaves increased significantly under stress conditions as one of a protecting substance against stresses, but proline contents in tomato treated with SJR3 decreased by 62.1 and 54.1%, respectively. Relative expression of genes encoding ACC oxidase, ACO1 and ACO4, ethylene response factor genes ERF1 and ERF4, and some other stress-related genes were examined from tomato leaves. Compared to the non-stressed tomato, expressions of all stress-related genes increased significantly in the stressed tomato, but gene expressions in the inoculated tomato were similar to those of no-stressed control tomato. Therefore, E. ludwigii SJR3 may play an important role in mitigating drought and salt stress in plants, and can increase productivity of crops under various abiotic stresses.

  • To measure the degree of work stress and identify factors influencing the stress among OR nurses, a study was implemented for 131 OR nurses working at four university hospitals in Taegu city through self administered questionnaires. Mean score of total work stress of nurses was 3.71, when maximum score was 5. Relatively high degrees of work stress was evident among OR nurses. When the related factors of the stress specified in the questionnaire were grouped into 11 categories, the respondents turned out to feel the highest stress when they were faced with the categories of non-peculiar duty and personal conflict with doctors. The most stressful events were nursing malpractice during surgical operations and damage to OR equipments. The nurses more susceptible to workstress were married with one child, less educated and worked at OR for 3 to 6 years.
