우리는 일상적인 대화에서 '과학적'이라는 수식어를 '믿음직한', '체계적인', '참된' 등을 의미하도록 사용하는 경우가 많다 .다른 누구보다도 광고 제작자들은 이 사실을 잘 알고 있다. 그래서 우리는 '과학적으로 설계되고 만들어진 침대' 정도로는 부족해서 아예, '침대가 아니라 과학입니다'라는 식의 광고문구에 어느덧 익숙하게 되었다. 침대를 광고하는 것이 분명한데도 침대가 아니라는 이 역설적인 주장에는 그냥 적당히(\ulcorner) 나무를 깎고 용수철을 달아 침대를 만든 것이 아니라 수많은 경험적 연구와 객관적 사용 테스트를 거쳐서 가장 편안하게 잠을 잘 수 있도록 침대를 만들었음을 강조하려는 의도가 숨어있을 것이다.(중략)

본 논문에서는 새로운 개념인 자체인증 특성을 갖는 개인식별정보 방식을 제안한다. 제안한 방식은 자체인증 공개키 개념을 개인식별정보에 적용한 방식이다. 그리고 자체인증 개인식별정보 방식을 사용하여 역설적인 id-based 암호시스템(id-based identification scheme, id-based 서명방식, id-based 키분배방식 등)을 구성하였다. 제안한 방식의 안전성은 고차잉여류 문제와 이산대수 문제에 근거하며, Schnorr 방식과 비슷한 효율성을 가지는 암호시스템이다.

본 논문에서는 certificatoin-based 방식이 아닌 id-based방식이면서도 사용자가 자신의 비밀키를 선택할 수 있는 역설적인 id-based 방식을 제안한다. 제안한 방식은 Girault가 제안한 self-certified공개키 개념을 id-based방식에 적용한 것이다. 제안한 방식의 안전성은 고차잉여류 문제와 이산대수 문네에 기반을 두고 있다.

Background : Paradoxical intracranial tuberculoma is tuberculoma that developed or was enlarged during antituberculous therapy. The course of the disease or effective treatment are not well known. Method : Patients who developed intracranial tuberculoma or an enlarged tuberculoma during antituberculous therapy were investigated. Ten patients were enrolled. Result : Paradoxical intracranial tuberculoma was detected 67.9 days after antituberculous therapy. The symptoms worsened over a period of 102.3 days. Improvement was noted after 165.4 days. Four patients recovered on the brain image and 4 recovered clinically. The CSF findings showed that the paradoxical tuberculomas had developed or were aggravated, the CSF findings was aggravated. Conclusion : Paradoxical intracranial tuberculoma can develop without specific symptoms. Paradoxical intracranial tuberculoma may not be a paradoxical response and may be a natural course of intracranial tuberculosis or a natural response to antituberculous therapy.

Although a paradoxical response of tuberculosis to antituberculous therapy is not a rare phenomenon, it can be a clinical challenge to differentiate a paradoxical response from treatment failure. A 25-year-old woman was admitted for miliary lung nodules and multiple intracranial nodules. Antituberculous treatment was started with a preliminary diagnosis of tuberculosis based on the history and clinical findings. After one month, the military lung nodules improved while the intracranial nodules increased in size and number. Based on a stereotactic biopsy, it was confirmed that the intracranial lesions were tuberculomas. Although the therapeutic regimen was not changed, the symptoms eventually were ameliorated and the intracranial nodules improved two months later.

A 6-month-old intact male Jindo dog was underwent surgery for hip fracture caused by hit by a car. Routine laboratory tests performed prior to surgery found no significant abnormalities, which might increase risks associated with general anesthesia. The dog was premedicated with atropine, induced general anesthesia with thiopental sodium and maintained with isoflurane. Forty minutes after surgery, the dog was suddenly bradycardic. Atropine (18 ug/kg) was slowly infused intravenously to normalize heart rate. However, paradoxically the dog showed slower heart rate with intermittent atrioventricular block ($2^{nd}$ degree type I) after atropine infusion. The dog's rhythm was returned to normal rate 7 minutes after ephedrine was infused. This is a rare case of paradoxical atrioventricular block induced by high dose of atropine in a dog.

This study examines turnover intentions of social workers in the public and private sectors from a comparative perspective. Major findings of this study are as follows: 1. There exists a paradox between public and private social workers that private social workers show their turnover intentions more saliently than public social workers, even though the former is paid much less, but more satisfied with their jobs, and then expresses turnover intentions more often than the latter. 2. The 'voice hypothesis' can be an alternative explanation to figure out why the paradoxical difference exists between the two groups of social workers when we include the mechanism of empowerment into the equations regarding social workers' turnover intentions and job satisfaction. 3. The equity theory of motivation can explain the paradoxical difference if we make use of the meaning of the 'equity' formula which stands for the ratio between inputs and outputs exerted by the social workers.

Parrondo paradox is the counter-intuitive situation where individually losing games can combine to win or individually winning games can combine to lose. In this paper, we derive the expected profit per trade for each portfolio when we trade stocks everyday under the spatially dependent Parrondo game rule. Using stock data of KRX (Korea Exchange) from 2008 to 2010, we show that Parrondo paradox exists in the stock trading.
