  • This study designed and produced stimuli in the form of canned images of fun humor, character, quirky, and sexy humor, and measured the signal values (SI) of the hippocampus associated with memory through fMRI analysis. The results of 20 participants showed that there were differences in SI values according to gender and age, and the fun humor image stimuli had the highest SI values. Men showed higher SI values for fun humor image stimuli, while women showed higher SI values for character humor image stimuli. In addition, those in their 20s showed higher SI values for fun humor image stimuli, while those in their 30s showed higher SI values for quirky humor image stimuli. Considering these findings, it is expected that more effective results can be obtained by utilizing fun humor images and characters in package design.

  • Animation films form a substantial part of pop culture and depict the sociocultural changes and values of the time in which they are made through visual expression of story and characters. In the process of appreciating animation films and accepting the characters, the audience learns the gender role behaviors that appear in the works as socially acceptable representations of men and women. This study illustrates whether the expression of gender role and behaviors of characters from animation films have changed over time or not by analyzing the costume and gestures of the female protagonists in 'Mulan', 'Tangled', 'Moana', and 'Frozen 2'. These films are considered to reflect the modern female identity on their story and characters. The study confirms that the stereotypical gestures and behaviors of women are still used today to portray the female protagonists in the animation films contrary to the story composition and various aspects of characters which escaped the formal stereotype. It is important for children and adolescents, the main consumers of animation, to learn and know how to consume media properly. Thus, this study seeks to illuminate the importance of research on animation literacy eduction for children and adolescents by examining the visual expressions and their implications in various animation films.

  • Sports has become one way to improve our own health and to enjoy life by changing the lifestyle of modern-day people. Sports athletes not only give pleasure to the public, but also play a role in elevating a nation's reputation through sports. Tennis is popular with the public, and women players receive tennis wear from various sports companies to promote the designs to the public. This study considers the design-related characteristics of women's tennis wear through content analysis of design elements from the tennis wear in four major tournaments over the most recent five years. This is important in order to provide basic data on design directions for tennis wear in the future. The results of this study are as follows. First, the silhouette plays a role in enhancing activity by considering the physical movement of tennis players who are very active. Second, color emphasizes the rules and clarity of traditional tennis tournaments, and reflects a diversified trend in tennis wear by considering smooth game play by players and combining popular colors in the year. Third, patterns and decorations on material are used as a means to emphasize the esthetics of tennis wear, and tape plays an auxiliary role in emphasizing the physical beauty of women or preventing physical movement causing injury. In addition, sponsor logos are generally located at the center of the chest of tennis wear tops by mixing letters and images. This can be interpreted as a part of the marketing strategy to enhance clarity of the sponsor's brand.

  • This paper examines the advertisements for mass-produced women's clothing, which appeared in the 1980s issues of the fashion magazine Wolganmeot. This study explores the communicative aspect of fashion advertisements of the 1980s as a platform for complex and dynamic interactions between fashion brands, female consumers, and the rapidly changing social, cultural, and economic conditions of the period. The research focuses on advertisements in the formal and character casual categories that targeted young, urban, and career-seeking women. Based on the analysis of the visual and textual elements of the advertisements from a pragmatics perspective, this paper concludes that fashion brands sought to highlight an 'intelligent', 'urban', and 'individualistic' image of women. It also proposes that the prevalence of assertive and straightforward textual elements, copies, indicates the efforts of fashion brands to stabilize and reinforce the advertising messages in the fast-evolving landscapes of the fashion industry and changing consumption habits.

  • As one of the image symbols, the second frame has rich symbolic metaphor. In previous studies, second frames are mostly presented in physical forms such as doors, windows, but in <The Power of the Dog>, there are various forms of second frames, providing more types for the study of second frames. Panofsky's Iconology has put forward a rigorous research method on how to interpret the meaning of image symbols in the picture. This study aims to use Panofsky's Iconology to analyze the second frame in <the Power of the dog>. The purpose is to expand the methodology of film image research and break through the problem that the Iconology analysis of film image stays in narrative analysis (iconographical analysis). It can be seen from the results of this study that the second frame has different visual presentation according to the requirements of narrative. In the narrative of the film, it symbolizes the depressed tone of the film and the stressful relationship between different characters. What director Campion wants to show through the second frame is that in the film industry where the problem of women is getting better, the motif of feminist film creation has changed from the expression of female appeals in binary opposition to the expression of the appeals of diverse groups in "decentralization."

  • This study is focused on showing possibilities and limitations of the disabled men roles through the relationships with migrant women in korean novels, furthermore it is discovering the problems and the directions for successful cohabitation of the disabled men and migrant women in Korea. To accomplish this purpose of study, we analyzed and criticized 5 Korean novels which described the life of a disabled man with a migrant woman in Korean multicultural society. As a result, the disabled man in those relationships represented the man who was only true to his own desires or the man of the minority in social restraint due to disability and also those men can be classified as attackers or helpers for their migrant lovers. These formulaic expressions being problematic by themselves also facilitate making distorted images of the disabled men and migrant women.

  • To derive implication for marketing strategy for Korean cosmetic products in China, an analysis was conducted on the difference in quality perception and purchase behavior between two groups of Chinese women classified by their awareness of Korean Wave. Analytical methods including k-means clustering method, independent samples t-test, factor analysis were applied on the survey results of Chinese women residing in Guangzhou city. The positive impact of Korean Wave on quality perception and brand image is much stronger for higher awareness group, compared against for lower awareness group, that leads to higher product satisfaction and willingness to recommend purchases. Thus, marketing strategies need to be adjusted based on the difference in customers awareness of Korean Wave. However, the low price is the primary inducement for purchases for both groups, increased efforts to enhance brand image and product quality as premium products is strongly required, together with the utilization of Koran Wave.

  • This study intended to understand overall history of make-up in Korea in an integrated and diachronic context by interpreting women's will and desire to express themselves reflected in the cosmetics culture in each period centering on women's magazine cover, cosmetics advertisement, and articles from 1950 to 1999 and examining women's make-up image and characteristics in each period. A total of 919 women's magazines (Yeonwon (Women's Garden), Woman Sense, Yeoseong Donga (Women's Donga), Jubusaenghwal (Homemaker's Living), Yeoseong Jungang (Women's Jungang)) issued between 1950 and 1999 were examined for the study. Key words of each period were extracted through fashion and beauty related articles and advertisement titles to examine the make-up culture of Korean women and set the standard for the make-up image of Korean women. A total 1,252 pictures were shot for each period and categorized based on the standard for the make-up image of Korean women. Then, the changes in the make-up image of Korean women were examined and identified the characteristics of images along with the change of images in each period. Next, the meaning of each make-up image was examined. This can be interpreted as the expression of values and desire by modern Korean women, especially Korean women in the late 20th century, as well as the consciousness for coping with the changing society.
