In this paper, molecular dynamics (MD) simulation was carried to predict thermo-mechanical behaviors for carbon nanotube (CNT) reinforced epoxy composites and to analyze the trends. Total of six models having the volume fractions of CNT from 0 to 25% in epoxy were constructed. To predict thermal behaviors, temperature was increased constantly from 300 to 600 K, and the glass transition temperature ($T_g$) and coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) analyzed using the relationship between temperature and specific volume. The elastic moduli that represented to the mechanical behaviors were also predicted by constant strain. Additionally, the effects of functionalization of CNT on mechanical behaviors of composite were analyzed. Models were constructed to represent CNTs functionalized by nitrogen doping and COOH groops, and interfacial behaviors and elastic moduli were analyzed. Results showed that the agglomerations of CNTs in epoxy cause by perturbations of thermo-mechanical behaviors, and the functionalization of CNTs improved the interfacial response as well as mechanical properties.
${\gamma}$-Glycidoxy propyl trimethoxy slilane, CTBN rubber(carboxyl terminated butadiene acrylonitrile rubber) and GMA(glycidyl methacrylate) were reacted with the surface of silica one by one in existence of TEA(triethylamine) or BPO(benzoyl peroxide). The amount of reactant was 2.5~5.8% of treated silica weight. The treated silica was mixed with epoxy resin and MTHPA(methyltetrahydrophthalic anhydride) in the range of 0~60% (wt. %) of total component. The flexural and thermal properties were tested for cured products. In filler content 35~55%, the using of silica treated with silane/rubber or silane/rubber/vinyl represented 25% higher flexural strength, 5% lower flexural modulus and 13% higher than mixing liquid rubber 3% with epoxy resin containing untreated silica.
Vinylester resin was synthesized by reacting epoxy resin with MAA(methacrylic acid) at a equivalent ratio of 1.1/1.0 in the presence of N,N dimethyl benzylamine. Low molecular weight epoxy(DER 331) was used together with higher molecular weight epoxy(DER 662, DER 664) and a novolac epoxy(DEN 439), and the amount of DER 331 was not over 50% of the total epoxy components. Viscosity, cure time and mechanical properties of the vinylester resin were profoundly influenced by the quantity of reacted MAA, and the structure and molecular weight of the epoxy resin. Tensile and flexural strength appeared to be the greatest when DER 331 fraction was 30~40%.
Waste printed circuit boards (WPCBs) contain valuable metals such as Cu, Ni, Au, Ag, and Pd. For an effective recycling of WPCBs, it is essential to recover the valuable metals. In recent years, recycling processes have come to be necessary for separating noble metals from WPCBs due to an increasing amount of electronic device wastes. However, it is well known that glass reinforced epoxy resins in the WPCBs are difficult materials to separate into elemental components, namely metals, glass fibers and epoxy resins in the chemical recycling process. $K_3PO_4$ as a catalyst in dimethylformamide (DMF) and N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) was used to depolymerize epoxy resins for recovering metallic and non-metallic components from WPCBs. Reactions of WPCBs were carried out at temperatures $160{\sim}200^{\circ}C$ for 2~12 h. The recycled glass fiber from WPCBs was analyzed by thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) and evaluated the degree of solubility of the epoxy resin for separation efficiencies of the WPCBs.

In this paper, we have studied the physical properties of braided composites for use as aircraft stringers. Process variables such as drum winder speed, braid velocity, and mandrel diameter for $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$ braid preforms were quantified and different epoxy resin types were applied to the braided preform using TGDDM, YD-128. Physical properties such as tensile strength and flexural strength of braided composites were investigated. Thermal properties and decomposition temperature of epoxy resin were investigated by TGA analysis. As a result, the lower the angle of the braid composites, the higher the tensile strength and the Flexural strength. The physical properties of braided composites fabricated using TGDDM epoxy resin were superior to the physical properties of braided composites fabricated using YD-128 epoxy resin. This is because the molecular weight of TGDDM epoxy resin was higher than that of YD-128 epoxy resin.
Interpenetrating polymer networks(IPNs) were prepared from castor oil-type polyurethanes(PUs) and epoxy resin. Two types of PU were prepared by using polypropylene ether glycol(PPG) as a chain extending agent and caster oil(CO) as a crosslinking agent. COPU/epoxy simultaneous interpenetrating polymer networks(SINs) based on CO had a better compatibility over the all composition than PPGPU/epoxy SINs based on PPG. The flexural strength of all PPGPU/epoxy SINs was decreased with decreasing entanglement of networks. COPU/epoxy SINs showed the higher fracture toughness and mechanial properties than the PPGPU/epoxy SINs. Fracture surfaces of all of the SINs showed the localized shear deformation and crack deflection rather than generation of stress whitening associated with the cavitation.
The polyol was synthesized from soybean oil. Soybean oil was epoxized with peracetic acid, and was reacted with methanol in a sulfuric acid catalyst. OH value of synthesized polyol was 186(mg KOH/g). The polyurethane foam was synthesized with silicon type B-8409 as a surfactant, distilled water as a blowing agent, dimethylcyclohexylamine as a catalyst, and polymeric MDI. The density, the compressive strength, the compressive modulus, and the cell structure of the synthesized foam were investigated. The foam was prepared with changing the mole ratio of MDI, and the amount of water, surfactant, and catalyst. As the MDI index was increased, the density and the compressive property of the foam were increased.
