  • Recently, as the importance of experience data increases, there are many attempts to deal with experience data from a data science perspective. In the case of approaching as a collection method of a quantitative survey method that seeks to quantify numerically such as big data, it is difficult to interpret the value of experience in a wide range, and it is relatively expensive and time consuming, and personal information infringement There is a limit to the analysis due to the risk of However, since ethnography, a procedure for collecting experience data based on qualitative research, is mainly carried out in the natural real environment of future customers from the perspective of users, it is possible to confirm the nature that customers face with a small sample. In addition, it is also easy to interpret the relational dimension of the empirical data. Although the ethnography method of collecting experiential data is economical and efficient, it is important to reduce errors in the collection process because the lack of scientific procedures for the data collection process can be a problem. It is important to secure the validity of whether the correct measurement tool is used for ethnography-based experiential data collection and to secure the reliability of the use of a valid measurement tool and method by accurately selecting the measurement target. From this point of view, it is necessary to verify the reliability of the research method that clearly selects the measurement target and secures the validity for the development of the correct measurement method and tool for the collection of ethnography experience data. Ethnographic study of the selection attributes for wedding planner (웨딩플래너 선택속성에 관한 에스노그라피적 연구)

  • As the types of wedding ceremonies become diversified, and consumers' needs become more selective, greater importance is given to wedding planners' roles in the wedding industry, and consumers require differentiated types of wedding service. As a preliminary qualitative study in this field, an ethnographic study was conducted to identify factors valued by consumers when selecting a wedding planner in the wedding planner market, which has rapidly grown in recent years. An in-depth interview was performed with eight participants in terms of wedding planner utilization type and consumers' understanding of wedding preparation with a wedding planner. The collected data were analyzed through taxonomy, component analysis and decision table analysis; for validation, professional wedding planners were asked to review the items valued by consumers in selecting a wedding planner. Four factors - expense characteristic, wedding planners, wedding consulting companies, and customer characteristics - were identified, along with eight sub-factors (capability, service attitude, technical communication, personal factors, wedding planner encounter paths, spouse's satisfaction status, and companies). Out of these, price (within budget), wedding planners' capability, wedding planners' service attitude are expected to be meaningful in further research because they were found to be attributes commonly valued by every respondent. This study is significant in that it has made a new approach to understanding wedding planner selection attributes through ethnographic research and identified new wedding planner selection attributes.

  • Due to the development of digital appliance, role of TV causes both-way by introducing IPTV, and SNS service causes big change of watching environment and residence environment. There are good conditions on the role of integrated control because it is arranged in the living room which secures movement most effectively and because family members can easily use, and the degree of use is high. Therefore, we infer user's needs by analyzing user scenario and current role of TV in home network environment. Primarily, we collect surveys of development scenario and technology which companies suggest TV applied by home network service, and secondly, we comparatively study scenario which the companies mentioned above suggest through observing user scenario, and study the role of IPTV in the future through actual scenario-based experiment by ethnography. After analyzing user scenario through case study and experiment, there are integrated device studies mainly in company study because it can be made up inside home, security and entertainment. On the other hand, there are patterns of user behavior by scenario experiment mainly in auto-tainment, security, and it showed that it is insufficient for interaction between TV and home media peripheral. Through this paper, we analyze context of home user, and based on this, we could suggest effective use of service development. Also after analyzing user form, we could know it also should be considered of ratio between activity inside home and activity outside home.

An Ethnographic Approach to Study on Purchasing Behaviors Regarding Preschool Children's Clothes (유아복 구매행동 연구의 에스노그라피적 접근)

  • This study proposes a new way to investigate purchasing behavior for preschool children's clothes using an ethnographic research method. The study consisted of 16 subjects composed of preschool children (aged 6 and 7) and their mothers. The analysis results are as follows. First, the in-depth interviews, indicated 14 attributes that mothers considered when purchasing children's clothes. Next, the result of conducting component analysis for consideration attributes indicated that the order of importance of attributes for mothers' opinions varied partially for some attributes (such as price) that depended on if the child was being raised only by the mother or with the help of another person. Second, in the accompanied shopping for the preschool children's clothes, the result of identifying the differences between the perception of consideration attributes and shopping behaviors confirmed some differences between consideration attributes recognized in the interviews and attributes practically considered when purchasing. Housewives (who were the mothers of girls) said that materials and comfort were the most important in the interviews; however, employed mothers of girls perceived design to be the most important attribute. The mothers of girls assessed design as an important attribute that they could never concede. Third, the children's opinions were found to partially influence mothers' purchasing behavior in the purchase of preschool children's clothes. Preschool children expressed their opinions on wearability and design in the process of wearing clothes at home or buying them outside; subsequently, mothers recognized children's opinions and reflected them in their practical purchases.

  • In Asia, where the aging population is growing rapidly, as the funeral service industry develops and the market grows. The economic value and interest of funeral services is increasing. However, Korea's funeral services are being developed in a biased direction, focusing only on funeral services, after death. Compared to the case of advanced funeral services in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Japan, not only the funeral but also the care of the deceased's family and acquaintances around us are developing. It is appropriate to use a method based on ethnography and User eXperience. For this purpose, the method of collecting and analyzing the ethnography and user experience data of actual resident and visitor was deduced in persona method in the next ten years, and funeral service centered on resident and visitor. In this study, qualitative data centered on the future direction of funeral services, focusing on the resident (family) and the guest who are the principals of services from the perspective of service science. It is difficult to derive meaningful results from the process of collecting, processing, and interpreting big data in general, and in this case, the data analysis method is based on ethnography and user eXperience.) Is appropriate. For this purpose, the method of collecting and analyzing the ethnography and user experience data of the actual resident and the visitor was deduced in the persona method in detail after 10 years. In addition, the future direction of funeral services centered on residence and visitor was presented.

Design Aesthetics of Walter Van Beirendonck (Walter Van Beirendonck 디자인에 나타난 미학)

  • Walter Van Beirendonck expresses a fairy tale world of perverted sexual desire of sadism and masochism, violence, and aggressiveness that breaks from a transient one-time concept as is an essential element of fashion. This study classifies the aesthetic characteristic shown on the design of Walter Van Beirendonck and analyzes the intent of his symbolism and meaning. The attempt has a meaning in exploring a new directionality of fashion by conveying a critical message to this end, contemporary fashion breaks down boundaries with artistic genre and connects a problematic consciousness that exists in life with fashion. The results of study on the aesthetic characteristics of Walter Van Beirendonck are as follows. First, Beirendonck emphasized an interpersonal image about body by giving a question through the deconstruction of image on a perfect body into race, age, and body based on body modification. Second, fetishism appeared as a consciousness that human identity and character can be changed by connecting a fetish element of sexual identity, and sadism and masochism with fashion's imagination. Third, infantilism as an amusement expression of the form metaphorically satirized life of modern people. Fourth, makeup shown on performance or festival of an African tribe was used in the way of mixture or reuse for ethnography to obtain inspiration from ethnography. Fifth, pop art combined a popular culture code as amusement through mass production and mass media. Aesthetics of Beirendonck do not have norm and are bold in using form, color, pattern, print, and styling because Beirendonck reinterpreted critical attitudes about essential problems that human life entails into a motif of his symbolic meaning in amusement. In regards to his design aesthetics, Beirendonck expanded fashion to the scope of Gesamtkunstwerk in a consistent and continued theme combined with philosophical creativity and differentiated from other fashion designers.

  • Recently technological drive on autonomous vehicle is on the rush. Along with the trend, researches on driver's perspective are increasing. However, previous studies have limitations in terms of study period and rich experience. In this paper, we conducted an ethnographically inspired fieldwork to observe human-autonomous car interaction. We had six participants to ride a prototype autonomous car on the real road for six days. After, we generated trust, distrust factors according to Lee & See's categorization of trust dimension: process, performance, and purpose. We derived eight distrust factors that saliently influences passenger's experience in autonomous vehicle. Our research broadens trust model into autonomous driving context based on real road field study and contributes to automotive community with design guidelines to increase trust toward autonomous vehicle.

  • In Hyper-Connected Society, IoT-based Lifelog data is used throughout the Internet and is an important component of customized services that reflect user requirements. Also, Users are using social network services to easily express their interests and feelings, and various life log data are being accumulated. In this paper, Intelligent characters using IoT based lifelog data have been developed and qualitative/quantitative data are collected and analyzed in order to systematically grasp emotions of users. For this, qualitative data through the social network service used by the user and quantitative data through the wearable device are collected. The collected data is verified for reliability by comparison with the persona through esnography. In the future, more intelligent characters will be developed to collect more user life log data to ensure data reliability and reduce errors in the analysis process to provide personalized services.

Service Design Guideline for Maker Space (메이커 스페이스를 위한 서비스 디자인 가이드 라인)

  • The purpose of this study is to present guidelines for service design for efficient operation of Maker Space due to the proliferation of Maker Movement. First, we investigate the literature survey and prior research on the definition and status of Maker space. Second, we performed video ethnography, participant observation and in-depth interview on maker space service by qualitative survey method. Third, we analyze the surveyed contents and present guidelines such as Persona or Blueprint for maker space. We classify Maker space into general lab and professional lab, derive Persona from each Maker space, and establish Blueprint to provide guidelines for design and operation. It is expected that the Maker space service design presented in this study can be used as a guideline to help the service improvement of the existing Maker space and the planning, design and operation of the new Maker space.
