The Associations between Early Maternal Language Use and School Readiness among Young Children of Asian and Hispanic Immigrant Mothers in the United States (아시아계와 남미계 미국인 이민자 엄마의 언어 사용과 학령 전 아동의 학교준비도 사이의 관계)

  • This study examined how early maternal language use was associated with school readiness at kindergarten entry among children of Asian or Hispanic immigrant mothers in the United States. Using a nationally representative sample from the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study-Birth Cohort (ECLS-B; $N{\approx}1,500$), this study estimates multivariate regression models to address each research question. This study finds generally advantages of maternal use of English and bilingualism for children's expressive language in both Asian and Hispanic groups and for children's pro-social behavior in the Asian group. It also finds that longer residency in the U.S. is associated with higher levels of approaches to learning for children of bilingual Asian mothers and lower levels of behavior problems for children of bilingual Hispanic mothers. Based on the findings, social work implications for the healthy development of young children of immigrants were discussed.

  • The discussion was started from the question about how literary linguistic expressions are reproduced in the movies. This study focuses on the cinematized version of Jelinek's "Die Klavierspielerin", the by Michael Haneke. and looking for cinematization of literary works and these aesthetic values. The original delicately describes the life of Erika who has been living under the supervision and control by her mother. The topic of the is the conflict between the controlling mother and the desires of the heroin Erika who has been living under the suppression. The world of suppression symbolized by her mother is described as closed and dark space while the world of Erika and her desires, represented by Walter is described as open and bright space. The life of Erika living under control symbolized by prison-like double doors, iron-barred window, darkness and shadow is abnormally distorted. Even the piano that must be the center of her life as a pianist is also one of the symbols of dark world of suppression.

  • To propose a contents model for children's smart watch, this study interview 15mothers who have a child using smart watches. Most mothers purchase smart watches for children to warrant their security and manage their schedules, and they use them for sending a call or text to their children, tracking or managing children's location and schedule. Mothers were satisfied with a smart watch's function of communication and safety management, but dissatisfied learning-oriented contents and worrried about bad influenced on children development. Through in-depth interviews, this study propose a persona model for children's smart watch for enhancing parent-child interaction and physical cognitive language socioemotional convergence play contents.
