STEAM Learning Model in Elementary Schools by Applying SCRATCH Programming (스크래치 프로그래밍을 활용한 초등학교 STEAM학습모형)

  • It is possible to increase integrated thinking and problem solving ability ultimately through STEAM education. This study developed STEAM model to apply to subjects and scratch knowledge education that sixth grade students in elementary schools can learn each subject through STEAM learning by applying scratch programming and it was applied and analyzed during regular classes and afterschool classes for sixth grade students. As a result, it was possible that about 70% of sixth grade students, the subject of model application were able to do STEAM learning initiatively by applying scratch program. Other 30% of the students were able to do STEAM learning partially through scratch. As for the achievement assessment of STEAM learning, it was evaluated that most of the students for the evaluation subjects got satisfactory achievement level by getting overall average 7.83 out of ten. Thus, it is considered that STEAM learning model by applying scratch is very superior that applying existing programming language such as C, BASIC etc.

Dynamic Critical Path Selection Algorithm (DYSAC) for VLSI Logic Circuits (VLSI 논리회로의 동적 임계경로 선택 알고리듬 (DYSAC))

  • This paper is to propose an algorithm named as DYSAC to find the critical path(the longest sensitizable path) in a large digital circuit, whose purpose is to reduce the time to find critical path and to find critical paths of the circuits for which the previous methods could not find one. Also a set of path sensitization criteria named as DYPSEC is proposed, which is used to select a path from input to the output inside the DYSAC. The DYSAC consists of two sub-algorithms; the level assignment algorithm to assign a level to each node and the critical path selection algorithm to select the sensitizable path. The proposed algorithm was implemented with C-language on SUN Sparc and applied to the ISCAS'85 benchmark circuits to make sure if it works correctly and finds the correct critical path. Also, the results from the experiments were compared to the results from the previous works. The comparison items were the ability to find the critical path and the speed, in both of which the proposed algorithm in this paper shows better results than others.

Moderating Effects of Language Abilities Associated with Emotionality, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and Peer Play Interactions (유아의 부정적 정서성, 주의력 결핍 과잉행동 성향과 또래놀이 상호작용 관계에서 언어능력의 중재영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the moderating effects of language abilities associated with between emotionality, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and peer play interactions. Two hundred fifty-two participants were 3 year olds, with 136 boys and 116 girls. They were recruited from day care centers and preschools in Gyunggi province and Incheon city. Peer play interaction was assessed by the Penn Interactive Peer Play Scale (PIPPS). Emotionality was measured by Child Behavior Questionnaire (CBQ). ADHD was assessed by teacher ratings of ADHD syndrome. Language abilities were measured by Korean Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence (K-WPPSI). Teachers completed questionnaires to assess peer play interactions, emotionality, ADHD. The results revealed that language abilities moderated relationships between emotionality and play in isolation. The magnitude of associations between emotionality and play in isolation was greater for high levels of language abilities. Moreover, there were moderating effects of language abilities associated between ADHD and play disruptions. Although ADHD was significantly associated with play disruptions, the association was stronger at the higher levels than the low levels of language abilities. It can be deduced that language abilities of 3 year old children affects the protection factor between emotionality and peer play isolation; whilst, it affects the risk factor on peer play disruptions and ADHD propensity.

  • This paper proposes Galois Field Arithmetic Unit(GFAU) whose structure does addition, multiplication and division in GF(2m). GFAU can execute maximum two additions, or two multiplications, or one addition and one multiplication. The base architecture of this GFAU is a divider based on modified Euclid's algorithm. The divider was modified to enable multiplication and addition, and the modified divider with the control logic became GFAU. The GFAU for GF(2193) was implemented with Verilog HDL with top-down methodology, and it was improved and verified by a cycle-based simulator written in C-language. The verified model was synthesized with Samsung 0.35um, 3.3V CMOS standard cell library, and it operates at 104.7MHz in the worst case of 3.0V, 85$^{\circ}C$, and it has about 25,889 gates.

  • Programming education needs learning which is adjusted individual learners' level of their learning abilities. Recommendation system is one way of implementing personalized service. In this research, we propose recommendation method which learning items are recommended for individual learners' learning in web-based programming education environment by. Our proposed system for leveled programming education provides appropriate programming problems for a certain learner in his learning level and learning scope employing collaborative filtering method using learners' profile of their level and correlation profile between learning topics. As a result, it resolves a problem that providing appropriate programming problems in learner's level, and we get a result that improving leaner's programming ability. Furthermore, when we compared our proposed method and original collaborative filtering method, our proposed method provides the ways to solve the scalability which is one of the limitations in recommendation systems by improving recommendation performance and reducing analysis time.

  • Technology evaluation for technology innovation of venture firms should take the rapidly changing corporate environment, the ambiguity of language used in evaluation, and the inaccuracy of evaluation index into consideration. In this paper, targeting the absorptive capacity and technological entrepreneurship which are typical evaluation factors of venture firms, an ACTEM model to calculate the importance, priority, and dynamic capability of factors, applying Fuzzy-AHP was proposed. The fuzzy theory was introduced to compensate for the ambiguity of cognitive judgments when calculating weighted values for the factors that made up an assessment scale. An assessment criteria framework for absorptive capacity, technological entrepreneurship, and dynamic capability, which were not considered in previous studies on the evaluation and measurement of technological prowess, so that the users could have a realistic alternative to choose. The study compared the ACTEM model with the old AHP assessment method and found that "knowledge acquisition" and "producing ability" were the highest in absorptive capacity and technological entrepreneurship, respectively, thus demonstrating its validity.

Development of Educational Contents for a Coding Instructor Training Program to Foster 4C Talent (4C 인재육성을 위한 코딩 강사 양성과정 교육콘텐츠 개발)

  • As the demand for the talented with computing thinking and programming skills increases the importance of coding education is increasing. Although various coding instructor training programs have been implemented nationwide, little research has been conducted analyzing the current status and contents of coding instructor training programs. Therefore, this thesis presents the design, development process and managing strategies of the 'Coding Instructor Training Courses for 4C Talent Development'. The training program consists of introductory courses and practical coding courses. In the introductory courses, learners acquires the basic knowledge required of coding instructors, and then proceeds to the practical courses to systematically learn the pedagogical knowledge and skills required to educate learners from kindergarten through high school. The case study introduced in this paper is expected to provide useful information to the educators planning and managing the coding instructor training program in the future.

A Study on the Globalization of Korean Food and Actual Conditions of Korean Restaurants in Australia by an In-Depth IntelView (호주 현지 한식당의 실태와 심층면접에 의한 한식 세계화 방안 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest methods to globalize Korean food and actual conditions of Korean restaurants in Brisbane and Sunny Bank, Australia. The period of the survey was from July 19 to Aug 13, 2010. As a analysis method, in-depth interviews were conducted and the result was suggested by general arrangement in cases that responses to the interview questions were considered overlapping or similar. The result of the study on methods to globalize Korean food is as follows. First, development and improvement of favorable cuisine for Australians is essential. Second, the government should lead the promotion of food supply and dishes. Third, personnel in the food industry not only need to be trained to communicate well but also have exposure to different cultures around the world. For the limit of the study, it was difficult to secure enough samples of the subjects for an in-depth interview due to lack of numbers of Korean restaurants. In future studies, research on new methods for the globalization of Korean food should be conducted by doing research on Korean restaurants in other areas of Australia.

Prediction Performance of Naming Tests for Differentiating Mild Cognitive Impairment and Mild Dementia (경도인지장애와 경도 치매의 감별을 위한 대면 이름대기와 범주 이름대기의 예측 성능 비교)

  • The present study identify the predictive power of confrontational naming and generative naming as screening tests for normal and early cognitive impairment. The subjects were analyzed for 203 healthy elderly, 106 mild cognitive impairment (MCI), 31 mild dementia. The confrontational naming was measured by the short-term Korean Boston Name Waiting Test, and the generative naming was measured by the Control Associative Word Test. As a result of polynomial logistic regression, both confrontational naming and generative naming had a significant effect on discriminating cognitive impairment (MCI, mild dementia) in general elderly (p<0.05). On the other hand, when distinguishing mild dementia from mild cognitive impairment, the generative naming-phonetic test had no significant odds ratio. The results of this study suggest that when discriminating mild dementia in mild cognitive impairment group, it is not meaningful to look only at the total score of generative naming test.

Analysis on the Effectiveness of Algorithm Visualization System for Structured Programming Language Education (구조적 프로그램밍 언어 교육을 위한 알고리즘 시각화 시스템의 효용성 분석)

  • Programming is an area that many students have difficulty on because it requires various skills, such as problem analysis, logical thinking, and procedural problem-solving skills. In this paper, a system visualizing algorithm was used to set up algorithmic concepts easily and effectiveness of the system was analyzed through scholastic achievement test and survey after learning through this process. For evaluation, we divided students who take courses on programming language and algorithm in 3 universities into 2 groups with 6 teams in each group. The group that trained this system visualizing algorithm had scored 17.4 points higher in terms of scholastic achievement than the group that did not train such method. Moreover, according to the survey, the group had higher scores in terms of interest level, concentration level, comprehension, effectiveness, and convenience.
