  • This paper aims to compare the performance of speech data classification into two groups, adult and elderly, based on the acoustic and linguistic characteristics that change due to aging, such as changes in respiratory patterns, phonation, pitch, frequency, and language expression ability. For acoustic features we used attributes related to the frequency, amplitude, and spectrum of speech voices. As for linguistic features, we extracted hidden state vector representations containing contextual information from the transcription of speech utterances using KoBERT, a Korean pre-trained language model that has shown excellent performance in natural language processing tasks. The classification performance of each model trained based on acoustic and linguistic features was evaluated, and the F1 scores of each model for the two classes, adult and elderly, were examined after address the class imbalance problem by down-sampling. The experimental results showed that using linguistic features provided better performance for classifying adult and elderly than using acoustic features, and even when the class proportions were equal, the classification performance for adult was higher than that for elderly.

  • This study considers the value of English-language films as material for learning a foreign tongue using posh discourse. In daily life, when we decline an invitation or convey unpleasant information to a listener, we use polite expressions; we are careful with our words. English language learners need to learn polite expressions in order to interact peacefully with others; doing so can minimize conflict, which is inherent in social relationships. This study uses the British drama Downton Abbey, which is about aristocracy. This study analyzes the posh discourse used in Downton Abbey and insists that students need to learn it explicitly. It is important to learn the polite expressions of this authentic drama in a real classroom. This study suggests that students work in groups to create a short video, and to try to understand the characters' personalities. Movies, TV dramas, and sitcoms provide great content that shows the various functions of the language that students want to learn. As a source of learning material, film can help improve students' motivation and interest in learning a foreign language.

  • XBRL is an XML-based language, actively used for diverse business reporting applications including financial reporting. It can be flexibly applied to each application by defining concepts and their relationships existing within the application. In these business reporting processes, it is very important for senders and receivers to validate the consistency and completeness of reporting contents in the syntatic and semantic levels. The basic method is to directly represent and validate the semantic constraints using application program codes. However, the method makes it difficult to represent, change, share semantic constraints. While XML constraint languages for XML documents such as XSLT and Schemantron support explicit representation and sharing of semantic constraints, they are limited in the efficiency and effectiveness of representing XBRL semantic constraints. This paper reviews XBRL formula, actively being discussed recently for standardization, and discusses the representation capability and limitations through a case analysis, which applies XBRL formula to business documents in the area of financial reporting.

  • Understanding of mathematical terms plays one of the key factors in understanding and utilizing related mathematical contents. In order to understand such terms well, it is necessary to define and use them appropriately. In this study, we first investigate specific instances of inappropriate using or representing mathematical terms in elementary school mathematics textbooks from a mathematical point of view and a consistent point of view. We then suggest implications for using and representing such mathematical terms appropriately.

  • In game developments, the design results are often modified not only in the design phase but also in the implementation and test phases. The results of game design are consisted of the results of game rule design and the results of game contend design. The results of game rule design should be correctly understood to all the participants, be efficiently managed by the given configuration controls, and be accurately verified. In this study, we carry out a survey of representation methods of game rules in game design. We have the comparison analysis of the written representation, the UML representation, the Petri net representation, and script-language representation methods about the suitability of the representation method for game rule designs. The comparison analysis is about the representation scope, the visual representation, the automated verification, and the configuration management. The analysis results show that the UML representation is the best method but it needs more convenient automated verification method.

  • It would have a trouble to communicate mathematically without an appropriate use of mathematical language. Therefore it is necessary to form mathematics classroom culture to encourage students to use mathematical language precisely. A four-month teaching experiment in a 4th grade mathematics class was conducted focused the accurate use of mathematical language. In the course of the teaching experiment, children became more careful to use their language precisely. The use of demonstrative pronouns such as this or that as well as the use of inaccurate or wrong expressions was diminished. Children became to use much more mathematical symbols and terms instead of their imprecise expressions. The result of the experiment suggests that the culture that encourage students to use mathematical language precisely can be formed in elementary mathematics classroom.

  • In an experiment to determine the relative effectiveness of poetry activities through constructivist cooking experiences 95 children in three kindergarten classes were assigned to experimental, comparative, and control groups. The experimental group participated in 12-week units of writing poetry after cooking experiences, while the comparative group participated in writing poetry after listening to poetry. Analysis of covariance revealed differences between the mean scores of the three groups on posttests of receptive and expressive language, indicating that the children in the experimental group performed better on the tests than the children in the comparative and control groups. These results suggest that incorporating constructivist cooking into poetry instruction is an effective means of fostering the language development of young children.
