This study examined the relations of maternal parenting and children's self-esteem to peer victimization as well as the gender differences in peer victimization. A sample of 494 5th- and 6th-grade children in Pusan answered three kinds of questionnaires regarding maternal parenting, children's self-esteem, and peer victimization. Peer victimization consisted of two constructs, bullying and victimization by pun. Data were analyzed by independent samples t-test and correlations. Boys showed more overt bullying and victimization by peers than girls, but relational peer victimization didn't vary as a function of the gender. Overall, the more boys and girls perceived their mothers as rejective/restricted, protective, and physically abusive, the more they were bullied and victimized. Both boys and girls were bullied and victimized by their peers when they showed lower self-esteem. Especially self-esteem was more highly correlated with victimization by peers than bullying.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of mother's and father's parenting behaviors and parenting involvement on prosocial behaviors of preschool children. The data were collected from 149 preschool children and their parents(149 mothers, 149 fathers). The collected data were analyzed by SPSS12.0 program for frequency, percentage, t-test, ANOVA, Duncan's test, multiple linear regression. The findings of this study are as follows :first, preschool children behaved prosocially more when their mothers or their fathers took warmth-acceptance of parenting behaviors. They showed lower prosocial behaviors when their fathers conducted more rejection-restriction or more permissiveness-nonintervention of parenting behaviors. Second, preschool children prosocially behaved more when their mothers and their fathers were more involved in parenting. Third, the most powerful predictor of prosocial behaviors was warmth-acceptance of parenting behaviors of their mothers.
The purpose of this study was to explore the relationships of mother's childrearing behavior, children's behavior problems, locus of control and peer victimization. The subjects were 360 children of 4th and 6th grade and their mothers. The instruments were Peer Victimization Scale, CBCL, Locus of Control Scale for Children, Childrearing Behavior Scale. The major findings of this study were as follows; (1) The type of peer victimization had a significant difference between girls and boys. That is, boys were more focused on overt victimization than girls. There was no significant gender difference in relational victimization, And there was no significant grade difference in overt and relational victimization. (2) Mother's rejection-restriction childrearing behavior, children's social withdrawal behavior problems, extemal locus of control predicted children's peer victimization. 24% of the variance of children's peer victimization was explained by these variables. (3) Mother's rejection-restriction childrearing behavior was the first contribution factor and had a direct and indirect effect through children's locus of control on children's peer victimization. And children's social withdrawal behavior problems was second contribution factor and had a direct effect on children's peer victimization. Children's locus of control had a direct and indirect effect through children's social withdrawal behavior problems on children's peer victimization. Mother's warmth-acceptance and permissiveness-nonintervention childrearing behavior had indirect effect through children's locus of control on children's peer victimization.
The present study investigated maternal parenting stress trajectories, using data gathered from the Korean Children Panel Survey. Four factors-monthly income, maternal depression levels, infants' negative emotionality, marital conflict-which were taken from reports made by the mothers' used in this study, were examined as predictors of maternal parenting stress trajectories. The effects of maternal parenting stress trajectories, parenting styles and toddlers' peer interruptive behaviors were also examined. The findings were as follows: First, maternal parenting stress trajectories somewhat increased from the 1st year period to the 4th year period. Second, infants' negative emotionality and marital conflict within the first year were observed to have a connection to the initial level and slope of maternal parenting stress trajectories. Third, maternal parenting stress trajectories predicted positive parenting styles, and parenting styles had a longitudinal impact on toddlers' peer interruptive behaviors at the 5th year period.
QRS(Questionnaire on Resource and Stress)

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect on maternal perception of her infant and the infant's behavior development through maternal education designed to provide information of the capabilities and the individual characteristics of her infant. The subjects were 48 pairs of normal infants and mothers at three different hospitals, 24 pairs for the intervention group and 24 pairs of the control group. The survey was conducted from July 30 to October 6, 2001. The results of this study were as the following. A maternal perception of her infant was significantly different between the two groups, more positive in the intervention group than in the control group. The information and understanding of behavioral characteristics of the infant are an important factor influencing maternal perception for her infant and general development of the infant. On the basis of these results, the educational intervention method of this study may be worth utilizing in nursing practice. The practitioners of hospitals have to establish a system that it offers an education of understanding the infant's behavioral characteristics during the hospitalization after delivery.
This study examined the effects of marital conflict and mothers' anger and depression on the behavioral problems of preschoolers. A total of 393 mothers with 3-year-old preschoolers responded to questionnaires, which included items related to marital conflict, mothers' anger and depression, and their preschoolers' behavioral problems. Data were analyzed by means of structural equation modeling. The results indicated that marital conflict had no direct effect, but there were indirect effects on preschoolers' behavioral problems caused by mothers' anger and depression. Mothers who believed that they were experiencing high levels of marital conflict revealed high levels of anger and depression and reported higher rates of behavioral problems in their children. Mothers' depression also mediated the impact of marital conflict on preschoolers' behavioral problems, but mothers' anger level apparently did not. The effects of mothers' level of depression on preschoolers' behavioral problems were the highest among all the predictors. These findings imply that both improving marital relationships and regulating mothers' anger and depression levels need to be emphasized when designing prevention and intervention programs aimed at improving the behavioral problems of preschoolers.
This study examines the relationship between a mother's psychological well-being and children's problematic behavior(withdrawal, depression anxiety, aggression and emotional instability). In order to expand the study on the relationships, special attention was given to the possible mediator effects of mother's coping style with children's negative emotions. The subjects were 305 mothers with children 4-5 years old residing in the cities of Cheonan and Seongnam. It was found that mother's psychological well-being was significantly related to the level of children's withdrawal, depression anxiety, aggression and emotional instability. The mother's coping style with children's negative emotions were also significantly related to the mother's psychological well-being. In addition the mother's coping style with children's negative emotions was found to be a significant mediator of the relationship between mother's psychological well-being and children's. This was especially so for internal problems behavior as like withdrawal, depression anxiety and emotional instability that were perfectly mediated by the mother's coping style with children's negative emotions. Aggression, external problems behavior was partially mediated by the mother's coping style.
